Genos?
You didn't want to believe it, but it had the same face, same body structure, everything. You almost forgot about him. He was alive and well again. You felt happy that Saitama was able to save him. But it also reminded you that you couldn't do it, which made you frown. Why is he here anyways? It was unusual of him to come to the rescue at this time of day.
"Are you alright, miss?" He approached towards you.
You looked around to see the crowd. You quickly remembered what Saitama told you and hid your face from him, strolling away.
"D-Don't follow me! I don't need your help!!" You shook your head.
"Wait!" He tried to catch up to you, running away from the scene.
After you were at a good distance from the accident, you finally stopped to feel your pounding heart. You couldn't tell whether you were scared or surprised to have a near death experience. You didn't know what you were feeling. You could still hear footsteps come your way. You quickly picked up the pace once more, pushing your chair with sheer force, regardless of your tired arms that were becoming weak. In the end, you couldn't lose him. He was literally walking after you. In defeat, you took a deep breath and exhaled as he gets closer to you.
"I said 'don't follow me'!! Why are you still here!? What do you want?!" You aggressively shouted.
"Miss, don't you need help?" He offered. You missed his kind voice that it nearly broke you. You almost forgot how gentle his tone was.
"I don't need your help at all! I don't want your pity! I can do things by myself!" You couldn't stop the flow of tears coming from your right eye.
"At least let me take you home--"
"Just go away...! Please..." You couldn't hold it in. You sobbed as soon as your voice cracked. You couldn't ignore your feelings deep down inside. You buried your face in your hands, trying to bottle up these emotions that were flowing out like crazy. You felt like you needed him again yet, you didn't want to reunite like this.
"Miss...? Are you alright?" Genos stands in front of you, kneeling to your level.
That was it. That was all he had to say to break you. Your sobs grew louder as you bawled in front of him, lowering your face. What made matters worse was when he tried to comfort you with a light pat on the shoulder.
"It's getting dark. You should really go home." Genos suggested.
You nodded like a lost child in the dark. Strange, he talked to you as if he never knew you. You figured Saitama must have taken care of Genos's memories. You knew that was for the best but the pain in your chest grew bigger. He did not recognize you at all. In return, you had to pretend you didn't know him either. You didn't want to put anyone in danger, especially Genos.
"C'mon, I'll take you." He softly whispered as if you were an old and fragile woman.
He began to push your wheelchair straight to the path you planned to go. You knew that Genos was stubborn when it comes to helping people. You remembered how generous he was back then.
Please don't do this to me.
"Where do you live?" He asked.
"It's far from here...." You sniffed.
You gave him directions to your apartment. Every time he tried talking to you, you would answer in short simple words or you wouldn't answer at all. The ride on the way home was severely awkward. He wouldn't leave you until you safely got inside your room. You had to admit, his assistance gave your tired arms some rest. As he enters the room, he flips on the switch and looks around.
"You have some pretty cool stuff in here." He complimented.
"They're nothing valuable." You denied, looking away.
"Well, I think they're beautiful." He smiled.
His attention was caught by your recreations of old inventions and strung up bottles that came in different colors and sizes. You remembered that you had to start all over again. It's a good thing that the nurse back at the hospital had secretly lent you her old materials to recreate into different things so you could kill time. All you have are just memories of her now.
"I almost forgot about something." Genos flips open his breast pocket to reveal a folded piece of paper.
He quickly fans it out and attempts to flatten the paper. You watched him with confusion as he completed the process.
"I heard you're the one who found some old ancient artifacts." He says as he points at the paper.
"What do you mean?" You raised a brow.
He hands you the scrap of paper which was torn from a newspaper clipping. What stood out the most was a picture of your father's old artifacts and a profile picture of you beside it. Your eye widens in surprise.
"When was this published??" You demanded.
"It was a couple months ago." He answered.
You quickly skimmed through to read the words. As you expected, the reports say that you were the one who started the fire in your old apartment complex. Out of anger and frustration, you crumpled up the piece of paper and threw it.
"It's you, isn't it?" Genos asked.
"What?"
"You're the one who found those artifacts, right?"
"No, it wasn't me. My dad did." You answered.
"I see." Genos taps his foot on the floor, crossing his arms.
"What is this all about?" You questioned him.
"My teacher and I just accepted a little job offering a couple days ago. There's an old woman who lost her family jewel. She says that it's in this city. I thought maybe an archaeologist would help since your father found 2 of the rarest missing artifacts in the world. I'm.... Running out of ideas here. I recognized your face from the papers so I.... Kinda followed you." He explained.
"..... Well I'm no expert so please get out of my home now." You turned away once more.
"I'm very sorry for bothering you." He apologized as he made his way out the door.
Honestly, you didn't want him to leave you. Your loneliness would only grow. You wanted to call out his name but you couldn't. You finally met him again. But now it was time to say goodbye once more.
"Goodnight, kid." You spoke.
"You too." He gives you a small wave as he shuts your door all the way.
