"Dean, do you wanna go get beer or something?" Sam asked after we'd been in a motel room for a bit.
"No, not really." Dean said casually, before realizing that Sam was trying to get him to leave. "Oh. Yeah, actually, I would, now that I think about it. Maybe." He glanced at me for approval.
I nodded. Sammy's back, I'm fine.
"Yes, I do. Okay. Be back in a bit." Dean grabbed his coat and keys and walked out.
Sam came to sit by me, putting his arm around me. "How do you feel?" I asked.
"Fine." He shrugged. "Should I not be?"
"Just checking." I shrugged. "I mean, you got hit pretty hard."
"I'm good, it doesn't hurt." He paused, suspicious.
"Good. Castiel helped a lot." I said quickly.
"You don't seem too keen on him."
"Oh, no. I think he's adorable. I just... I dunno. It's just weird. I mean, he's not the typical Sunday school lesson." What with torturing kids and all...
"Neither are demons."
"Yeah, they are, actually..."
"Really?"
"Yeah. The Bible mentions them a lot...."
I started to get up and get my Bible but he pulled me back down, saying he'd take my word for it. "I love you." He kissed my temple.
I closed my eyes, relishing the lingering feeling of his lips. "And I you."
"Why'd you do it?"
"I told you I didn't mean to." I said sharply, jerking away.
"Why'd you tell Dean you were awake?"
"Because."
"Why won't you tell me?"
"He wouldn't want you to know."
"Why?"
"Because."
"Is it something weird?"
"No."
"Speaking of weird, what was with that kiss earlier?"
"Dear Lord, Sammy, can I not just kiss you?"
"I meant with Dean."
"Oh, yeah. That was weird." I agreed. "I just want to be able to die in peace."
"You guys seem to have gotten really close. Are you sure I was just out for a few days?"
Dean wouldn't say how he got Sam's soul back (so I'm assuming he did something stupid), but he did say that we can't tell him anything about it because there's a block in his mind, and breaking it would be very, very bad.
"I'm sure." I said. "We just talked a lot while you were out."
"So there's nothing going on between you?"
"Sam, you weren't gone for years." I kind of lied. "Gross, no."
"Sorry."
"It's okay. I'm sorry you thought that."
He shrugged.
"Do you really think either of us would do that to you?"
"No."
"Exactly."
"So,map patently things have changed these past few days." He began. Oh, you don't even know. "So where do we stand on physical contact? I don't want you to punch me or anything."
"I want to punch you though." I said.
He laughed and kissed me. I didn't want to kiss him. I just wanted to hug him and for him to hug me. But that's far too mushy-gushy for me to speak aloud and it'd bring about questioning. After a short time, he pulled away. "Where are you?" He asked.
"Oh. Sorry."
"You okay?"
"Yeah, why?"
He shrugged.
"You know I love you, right?" I asked. Okay, far too out of my comfort zone. Nope.
"Yeah, 'course. I love you too."
I slipped my hand into his.
"Lex?"
"Yeah?"
"You look like hell."
"Thanks, Romeo." I rolled my eyes, kind of but not really offended.
"No, I'm serious. You look terrible."
"So that's why you didn't have a girlfriend."
"No, Lexie. You look worse than Death."
"Well, I haven't slept in forty-eight hours, so that might have something to do with it."
"What?"
"I've been alternating between worrying about you and Dean."
"We're grown men, we can take care of ourselves." Sammy said.
"Yeah, but you both make stupid-ass decisions."
"No we don't. Well, I don't... But you need to go to bed."
"I will tonight."
"Now."
"I'm a grown woman, I can take care of myself." I said. "But Dean didn't leave your side the entire time you were out. Worry about him."
"Oh, I do."
