"Ok, ok I'll let you be. Siguro nag uumpisa na PMS mo kaya masungit ka sa akin."
"Anong masungit, di no? Kinukulit mo kasi ako eh." Now she's full-on whining.

Just then her expression completely changed. She visibly paled and had this glazed look in her eyes, making Alden worry.
"Babe, ano na naman?"
"Wait lang, anong date na today?"
"June 1"

She swallowed, then looked at Alden with panic in her eyes.  Then she walked off leaving him wondering. Hay naku mga babae talaga!!! He sighed in frustration.

He found her sitting alone, massaging her temples.
"Love, ano? May masakit ba? You're making me worry."
She looked up at him and quickly grabbed his hands. Her hands were cold, a sure sign she's nervous about something.

"Alden umupo ka, may sasabihin ako. Seven days na akong delayed, I was supposed to start my period on the 25th!"
She said all of this in one breath, ending with a hitch in her voice, she was on the verge of crying. Then it hit him, his entire body felt warm & he stood up suddenly with a whoop of joy. People turned to look & Meng buried her face in her hands.

"Ooops, sorry babe, na-excite lang. Can we please get out of here now? I wanna talk in private."

They quickly made their way out of the waiting area to his car. He texted Mama Ten to take care of both his & Meng's stuff.

Once inside the car, Maine burst into tears.
"Hey, baby! It's ok, wag kang umiyak, masama sa baby natin yan." He comforted her but can't help gushing & smiling from ear to ear.

"Papaluin ako ng tatay ko, patay talaga ako nito!"
"Di ka niya pwedeng saktan sa kalagayan mo. Tama na muna iyak mo, please."
"Tsaka di alam nila tatay at nanay na kumekerengkeng na ako. Nakuuuu, patay talaga ako nito"
"Baby, look at me, andito ako ok? Di kita pababayaan, alam mo yan. Pakasal na tayo agad bago pa nila malalaman na buntis ka."

Then suddenly he just shouted: Woohoo!!! Magkakababy na kami!!!! Hahahaha!"

Through her tears, Meng can't help but laugh at Alden's obvious happiness and pride. She almost thought he'd bang his hands on his chest like Tarzan.

"Teka, tawagan ko si dad, I'm sure sobrang matutuwa yon."
"No, wait, let's make sure muna, love. Check muna natin para sure."
"Umm, pano?"
"Meron yung nabibili sa drugstore na pregnancy test."
"Hatid muna kita sa condo then bibili ako. Pahinga ka muna don, tapos dinner tayo ok?
"Iwan mo ko?" Super lambing & super clingy Meng is Alden's kryptonite.
"Ok, di na, di na, samahan kita don. Gutom ka ba?"
"Di naman, antok lang, jetlag pa rin siguro."
"Or yung baby yan, shet, di maubos kilig ko hahaha!"

She woke up alone in bed, she called out to Alden, who came running back to her room.

"I'm here babe, ano, did you sleep well, gutom ka ba? May food sa labas.Andito na rin yung pang-test."
"How did you get them?"
"Nag-order ako through the phone & asked the driver to pick it up from Mercury."
"Perfect, thanks, love!"
"So, gusto mo na bang i-check?
"Ok, habang naiihi ako."
"Gusto mo bang samahan kita?"
"No, thanks, babe. I'll manage."
"Sure ka ah, dito lang ako sa may door."

Alden is so attentive to her every move. He flinched when she jumped off the bed.
"Babe! Dahan dahan lang galaw mo, baka madapa ka magiging pango baby natin."
"Shhh! Ang OA naman nito, tadpole pa lang yan kung meron man."

Maine is staring at the five pregnancy tests  in front of her for the past 30 minutes now. Kanina pa katok ng katok si Alden.
"Love, ano na? Nababaliw na ako dito, please, kausapin mo ako."
She finally unlocked the bathroom door to let him in.

"So anong ibig sabihin nito?"
"Ewan ko, 3 positive, 2 negative. Majority wins?"
"Hala, we can't just make a guess, pa-check up tayo sa doctor."
"Di pwede, lalabas at lalabas yan lalo tayo mapatay ni Tatay niyan!"
"Akong bahala maghanap ng discreet na doctor who can keep secrets. Stop worrying na, ok. Kain na muna tayo."

"Stop fidgeting, love. Relax lang ok? Lalo akong ninenerbyos sa yo eh."
"Di ba nakakahiya we are meeting her in her house?"
"Ok lang, she's the one who suggested it para walang makakita sa 'tin."
"Buti na lang may tita si kuya Rye na OB no?"
"Yup, buti na lang and he assured me she can be trusted."
"Of course."

They were both ushered in to the doctor's study. Both Alden and Maine are impressed by the opulence of the house in an exclusive village in Makati.  They were seated side by side facing a large table. Hands tightly intertwined, they were both really nervous. Only the four of them know about this secret. Alden, Maine, kuya Rye and this doctor.

A very nice looking lady in her early 50's came in the room. Both Alden & Maine stood up to shake her hands and introduce themselves.

"So", the doctor began, "I have your test result and it's negative. You're not pregnant. Menstruation can sometimes come late if you're stressed or there's a change in your cycle."

Alden's chest tightened & he felt so very sad suddenly. He swallowed hard. He tightened his hold on Maine's hand. He didn't dare to look at her.

"While you're here, I can talk to you about options available for contraception. But Ryan mentioned you are both staunch Catholics, I respect that. I just want you both to know na maraming ways to prevent unplanned pregnancy."

"You can read these brochures for the various options available to you. There's also the calendar/rythm method, if you want to use that. The reason why I'm insisting you consider these options is, I'm a huge fan. And I couldn't imagine how hard this must be for you both. Living under a microscope & carrying all the expectations of people who want you both to be perfect."

"I was pleasantly surprised to see how disappointed you both were when I told you it's negative. Kung gusto niyo na magka-baby then why don't you get married? I know you're both crazy about each other. Sorry for the unsolicited advice, I just want you both to be happy because you're such good kids. It's not a bad thing to be selfish sometimes. Think about yourself once in a while. Importante din kung ano yung gusto niyo. I'm sure Aldub Nation will understand. We really do care about you both."

Alden heard Maine sniff, he turned to look at her to see tears streaming from her eyes. He handed her his handkerchief as he blinked his tears away. He put his arms around her to comfort her.

"Thank you po, doktora. We will read these and maraming salamat for going out of your way to see us. We really appreciate it most especially your kind words." He said.

"Not a problem, it's my pleasure, my number is in the card, you can call or text me if you have questions. Or if you just want to talk."

They both gave the doctor a hug, they felt they gained another mother or ninang in her.

When they reached the car, both of them were quiet for sometime, just staring ahead.

"I'm sorry I'm not pregnant." He heard Maine whisper.
"It's ok, love. Not your fault.
"Pero ba't ang sakit? Parang I already convinced myself na magka-baby na ako tapos wala pala."
"Stop crying na, babe. Masakit din for me but.. siguro di pa natin time."
"I just don't want you to feel sad, alam ko gustong gusto mo na, sorry kung pinaasa kita."
"Ano ka ba? Ok lang, at least di ka papaluin ni Tatay."
"Love mo pa rin ako kahit di ako pregnant?"
"Sobra sobrang love pa rin kita."
"Siguro I need to pray more para ma-guide ako ni Lord anong dapat kong gawin. Gusto ko nang magpakasal pero gusto ko talaga kasama si God sa decision na yon eh. Kala ko ito na yung sign niya."

"Simba tayo this Sunday."
"Uy, look, may pa-sample na condom sa brochure!"
"Haha, talaga? Baka naman expired na yan."
"Sabi ng Tita ko para ka daw kumakain ng candy na may balat pag naka-condom."
"Hahaha grabe siya!"
"Yun sabi niya, so meaning walang lasa?"
"Gusto mo i-try?"
"Hala sya, kakagaling lang natin sa iyak dalawa, lumalantod ka na naman, Ritsard ah!"
