Twenty-Five

Chapter 25

"Where've you been?"

I turned around and saw Calum approaching me with an almost invisible smile. "Oh, I had a doctor's appointment. Happy birthday, by the way!" I said, voice slightly quivering.

"Thanks. You okay? I didn't know about this appointment."

You don't know a lot of things.

"Yeah, just a check up. Have you eaten yet?"

"Nope, I was waiting for you! C'mon, let's go!" He put his arm around my shoulder and it felt like normal again. "Oh, and I'm sorry for shouting at you."

"I'm sorry for kissing you."

"Let's not bring it up?"

"Yeah."

We exchanged a smile and headed to the canteen, him talking about this upcoming football match and me nodding every now and then to acknowledge what he'd said.

After school, I was about to head home but Calum tapped my shoulder, looking down at his phone. "Damn, looks like Ashton can't make it tonight. Wanna do what we were gonna do?"

"You mean, get ice cream?" I asked, trying to hide the massive smile that was creeping up my lips.

"Yeah. You're still up for it right?"

I nodded. "Course!"

Whatever caused this turn of events, I couldn't be more thankful to it. We seemed to have forgotten the events of the past few months as we walked to the ice cream parlour like we used to, and ordered the exact same flavour as usual. We sat down in the same booth, number four, and it felt like nothing had changed.

Well, things had changed. I mean, I was sort of in love with him now. I'd been supressing my feelings for a long time and honestly, I just wanted a chance to let it out. Spending the morning with Dr Neil had certainly helped that and I felt a lot better in my head.

"So yeah, as I was saying, I got you tickets to this match so you'd better come! It's the last of the season, so our captain is holding a party at his, but it's gonna be like really formal. We're being asked to bring dates and everything!" he explained, taking a big lick of his chocolate cone.

"When is it?"

"This Saturday," he said, licking again.

Damn, his tongue looks sexy.

My eyes widened as I realised what I'd just thought. Holy... I really was in love with this dork, wasn't I? I smiled like fool, gazing at him idly.

"Is there something on my face?"

I chuckled. "Yeah, your eyes, nose and mouth."

"Seriously, I don't want to be walking around knowing I have ice cream on my face."

"There's nothing on your face!" I exclaimed, laughing.

"Then why do you keep staring at it?" He had this puppy expression on and I felt my heart melt.

"Just cause. You look cute when you're eating ice cream."

You did not just say that. Oh my lord. What have you done Luke.

He stared blankly back at me, evidently speechless. "Well, you look cute when you're not looking at me, so stop staring, please and thank you," he replied sassily, even putting his hand on his hip for added effect.

The rest of the evening passed in the same kind of manner. We went to the beach afterwards but didn't swim because it was beginning to get dark, instead choosing to lie on the sand and watch the fluffy clouds drift to their next destination. It reminded me of the day he first told me about liking Ashton.

We'd both come a long way since then. All part of growing up, I suppose.

I was glad about one thing though – we were back to being best friends. We both seemed to forget about Ashton and Michael that night, as we watched the sun fall down and the waves roll onto the wet sand like clothes in a washing machine.

"Sleepover at mine? I forgot to give you your present."

He looked over with an illuminated smile, the sunset gleaming in his wonderful eyes. "Yeah. I'd like that. On one condition though – we get to watch Finding Nemo!"

I rolled my eyes but agreed. It was his birthday after all. My little Calum was now eighteen... and the first thing he wanted to do was watch Finding Nemo. Not that I had any complaints – it appeared any time I got to spend with him at all these days was precious.

At home, mum had saved us some dinner to be heated up, but we weren't terribly fond of asparagus and fish so we asked to get pizza – and to my surprise, she actually said yes. We put the film on, brought down my duvet and snuggled up on the sofa in front of the TV, the box of pizza between us acting as some kind of invisible wall. Once we'd finished, I threw it aside so we could be closer, and eventually fell asleep on his lap.

This time, I wasn't the first person to wake up.

When I opened my eyes, I saw Calum's massive eyes facing mine. "Morning Lukey."

I could get used to this.

"Hey... what time is it?"

"Seven. We need to leave for school in an hour."

I nodded, yawning and nestling into him. I'd lost a lot of sleep the past few nights and now was the time to make up for it. "Can I sleep for another twenty minutes?" I asked, my voice cracking as it was morning. He giggled and nodded, putting his arm around my neck so it felt like we were spooning. Then I realised that we were still on the sofa, but ignored that and went back to sleep.

When I woke again, it was nine and I swore, jumping off the sofa and panicking. How had I managed to oversleep?! Moreover, why wasn't Calum awake?

"Cal, wake up!" I harshly whispered, shaking his arm. "Cal, it's nine already, we're late!"

He shrugged my hand off and groaned. "I don't wanna go..."

"It's our final year Calum, every lesson matters!"

"Ugh, stop being such a spoilsport..." he murmured, sitting up and rubbing his eyes with a yawn. "Wanna skip?"

"What? – are you mad? We need to get to school," I reminded, rushing around frantically trying to find my jeans that I'd taken off during the night when it got hot.

"C'mon. Just one day. Let's go somewhere." His hand grasped the neck of my shirt and I looked down at his adorable face, giving in.

"Just this once, okay?"

Thank you for reading :)) sorry for this disappointing chapter lol XD I wrote this a few weeks ago actually, so I don't even remember what's going on. 

TODAY'S QUESTIONS IS: What is your favourite city? Mine has got to be Paris. I went there on holiday a few years back and I still can't get over how wonderful it was there!

Okay I'm gonna fly, woke up at 4 but took a little nap :)

OH yeah and 5SOS announced a new single!! Girls Talk Boys! I'm so excited, can't wait for new stuff and hope they release an EP too, with maybe some acoustic stuff?? So happy for them XD It's been like 8 months since SGFG whoa
