"Ok, what do I do first?"
Saying that I suck at cooking is an understatement. Last week at family dinner I burned the spaghetti sauce. The sauce.
"Wash your hands, you hooligan. For such a smart girl, that was such a stupid question."
I rolled my eyes and walked to the bathroom down the hall. How did I still remember where it was?
I checked my phone while I was in there. I had two text notifications. One from mom the other from Jay. I texted my mom first. I mean that was the smart thing to do.
Mom: What time are you getting home?
Me: late sorry johnathan still doesn't get the hw should be home @ 8ishOk, now Jay.
Jay: sooo
hiws ur date???
hows*Me: ugh its not a date im tutoring him
She responded almost immediately
Jay: so your still there? ,':))
Me: ....stop
Jay: ?! yes or no b
Me: he's cooking me dinner
i 'll call you when i get homeI got back to the kitchen and Johnathan was getting out ingredients. "Sorry, I had to text my mom back. " He smiled.
"No worries. I wouldn't want to upset your mom either. I need you to chop onions. Here, I'll show you how." He said holding an onion and a kitchen knife. He placed them on a cutting board and started to cut.
"See? Easy." He stepped back allowing me to get to the cutting board. I picked up the knife and tried to mimic his actions.
"No, look," he reached around me and grabbed my hand to guide me. "Like this. The knife has to be touching the board at all times. It's safer that way."
His hand lingered above mine for a moment. It took me a moment to realize he was staring at me again but this time at my mouth. I felt my cheeks get warm.
"Uh, what else...should I do?" I tried to hide my smile. I had to admit, it was nice to have someone look at me like that for once. I've only had one real boyfriend and he was an ass. His name's Daniel and what I would consider my biggest mistake.
We finished cooking and ate in the living room while watching tv.
"Ok so you can cook, I'm impressed, but I have to go home. It's getting late and my mom doesn't play when it comes to curfew." His face fell slightly.
Was he sad I was leaving?
"Next time you'll have to add baking to the tutoring list."
I looked at his disappointed face and nudged his arm.
"Definitely. I make amazing cupcakes."
I walked towards the front door. He opened it for me. I started to walk out when I felt him grab my hand.
"I know you don't really like me but I consider us friends so I just wanted to say thanks, for you know tutoring me." He smiled and before I could respond he headed back inside.
"You're...welcome?"
