Jaylen and I took John to the mall. We took Johnathan to Sophora and we did eyeshadow swatches all down his arms. I don't even wear a lot of makeup so that whole swatching thing was just to mess with him. He eventually caught on but Jay did end up buying one of the pallets we tested.
"I'm going to have sparkly arms for a week."
"Hey, you were a lot of help! But seriously, we should stop by the food court. I'm starving."
We split up and agreed to meet at one of the tables near the center of the food court. I was the first one out of line so I chose the table.
While I texting Jay and Johnathan to let them know I had a table, I felt someone staring at me.
I looked up to see Daniel sitting a couple tables over, staring at me with a smirk plastered on his face. I hadn't spoken to him since we broke up, what did he want?
He winked before standing up and walking to my table. Jesus, I wasn't in the mood to talk to him. Honestly, I was never in the mood and he knew that.
"Long time no see."
"Oh there's a reason and you know that. What do you want?"
"I couldn't let such a pretty girl sit alone. I came to keep you company."
"That's where you're wrong. I'm here with Jay and Johnathan." He leaned back in his chair and let out a sigh.
"Why does it even matter. We aren't dating anymore, I'm not the same girl I was. You have zero room to be even slightly pissed off." He slid his chair closer to mine and grabbed my chin. I jerked my head to keep him from touching me followed by a glare.
"Oh come on, Cam. I miss you."
I don't have time for this, for him. I changed my number and if he didn't realize that, I wasn't answering or returning his calls or text. I wanted him away from me. Now.
"I'm trying to be nice, be civil, but you obviously can't take a hint. I'll use fewer words so that you can comprehend what I'm saying. Fuck off. What part of 'stay out of my life' don't you understand?"
"You bitch...I'd watch out if I were you. Your new little friend might not be able to save you."
He stood up when he saw Jaylen and Johnathan coming. He mumbled "speak of the devil" before going back to his table.
I looked at them and immediately started getting questioned. Jay knew every detail from that horrible year. John knew too but had never actually seen Daniel.
"What was he doing here? What did he say?"
"Nothing, forget it."
"Cameron, you're lying. What did he do?" I looked at them both and saw how pissed Jay was and how confused Johnathan was. Jay saw his confused face too and filled him in.
"That was Daniel!" she said to a little loudly. He looked at her then to Daniel then to me. "Her-"
"No, I know who he his," he snapped. "Cameron, what did he say?"
I had only told him about Daniel a couple days ago. He was clearly still angry about what Daniel did. I didn't blame him.
"He- He said he missed me and I shut him down so...he threatened me."
"He-?!" Johnathan stood up and I remembered what he said a couple days ago.
If I ever meet this prick, I might just kill him.
I grabbed his wrist before he could go anywhere.
"Don't." I felt his arm relax but I could still see the anger in his eyes.
"Then I'll do it. Hey, Asshole!" Jay got up and walked over to Daniels table.
"Jaylen stop!"
"Look, I need you to keep my friend out of your head. Don't come near her, don't talk about her, just leave her alone. I vividly remember her telling you to stay away so, how about you do it. Ok? Thanks." Shne smiled and walked away. Daniels friends started laughing at him for letting a girl talk to him like that.
"I'm trying my hardest to see things from your perspective, but I just can't get my head that far up my ass. She still loves me and if not all of me, she at least misses one part of me. I don't think I have to explain what I mean."
Jay kept walking away but I saw Johnathan's jaw tense up. "Do not go over there ok? It's not worth it. He doesn't scare me anymore. I'm fine." He wasn't listening to me. He started walking towards Daniel and I couldn't do anything to stop him.
"What, white boy?"
He laughed at his very sad attempt to piss him off more.
"You should probably watch how you speak to people, especially my friends."
Johnathan was taller than Daniel, only by an inch or two but definitely looked a lot more intimidating when he was mad than Daniel did.
"Johnathan. Lets. Go."
"You better listen to ya girl."
"Yeah yeah just one more thing." Within a blink of an eye, Johnathan's fist hit Daniels jaw. There were a collection of gasps as Daniel hit the ground. Johnathan grabbed him to buy the shirt, mumbled something, and pushed him back down.
He took my hand, Jaylen grabbed my keys and we made our way to the parking lot.
We got to my car and took my hand back so I could push Johnathan. "What the hell were you thinking?! He could- no he is going to press charges! I told you I was fine!"
"John, your hand is bleeding, " Jay grabbed his hand to examine it.
"Good lord, how hard did you hit him? It was one punch."
"A punch that's gonna get him arrested!"
"I'm fine!" He snatched his hand away from Jay's.
"Sure..."
I dropped Jay off first because her house was closest to the mall. We pulled up to his house and shockingly he didn't storm off like I was expecting him to. I could tell he was still pissed about what Daniel said.
"I know. I just...lost it." It was like he could hear my thoughts.
"Ok, but I wasn't joking when I said he will press charges.
He let out a sigh and reached for the door but I locked it.
"Cameron, let me out."
"Why did you hit him? You didn't have to do that."
"Seriously. Cameron."
He he placed his hand on the door handle waiting for me to unlock the door. I tilted my head waiting for a response.
"Why did you hit him?"
He shook his head and pulled up the lock on the door. I sat in his driveway and watched him disappear inside.
