Chapter 20- Hours part 1

My watch beeped and I saw the time.

12:00 pm

My fingers start to turn blue and my breath goes cold. 

"Artemis, Steve made chocolate chip cookies. Do down and get some." I told her and she got off the couch and ran as fast as she could to the elevator.

When the doors closed pain shot through my chest and I screamed.

"Jarvis, Don't let Artemis come back up here."

"Shall I inform Mr. Stark?"

"Don't bother, there's nothing he can do." I breathe out and fall to the ground. My breathing slowed and I saw my hands freezing.

"Jarvis lock down this level, override Beta M-1. I don't want anyone coming in."

"Yes, miss." My body begins to shiver and shake. 

How did I get here that fast? Well, it all started 12 hours ago...

12 hours earlier...

"Okay, we are going to have 4 teams. Team Alpha is Thor, Nick, and Tony. Beta is Captain, Hill, and Barton. Gamma is Banner and Natasha. Delta is Abigail, Rhodey, and Agent Carter. Gamma, you will be airborne when we call you better haul ass and help. Delta, you will enter on the east, there shouldn't be that many guards, their patrol is sloppy. Beta you will do West, you have a guard that is quick to grab his walkie if he sees something. Alpha will take the north, the front is heavily guarded and will have the most guns."

"And what will you do?"

"I will take the south."

"Can't we just have Banner tear the building down?" Tony asks and I bite my lip. I glance at Fury and he nodded.

"We're dealing more than just Hydra and Hammer. They replicated the super soldier serum multiple time and they-"

"You're sending us on a suicide mission."

"It's not a suicide mission."

"We have to go against Hydra soldiers with enhanced DNA. That's a suicide mission." Tony snapped and I look at Fury for help but he says nothing.

I take a deep breath and look around the room.

"Look you're either in or out. I could just be by myself and have a chance of getting captured again but I'm asking for help this time...We have no time for this shit, wheels up in 20." I walk over to Tony.

"You can be a Pussy and back out if you want, wouldn't be the first time you backed out of something." I roughly bumped his shoulder as I made my way out the conference room.

I went to my room and got dressed in my SHIELD uniform. I laced my boots up and slid my knives in them. I zipped up the front of my uniform and put my hair in a ponytail.

"Jarvis scan me."

A blue light scans my body from head to toe.

"Scan complete. Body temperature 76.4" My eyes widened.

"What's today's date?"

"October 16th."

"Shit."

I only have a few hours left.

I put on a jacket, walked out the room and made my way to Fury. I opened his office door and saw him holding a sleeping Artemis.

"I wish this would end already."

"It will you just have to wait." My watch beeped. I went over to kiss Artemis on the head and hug Fury.

"Goodluck." He whispers. I leave the room and head to the hangar. 

I started the quinjet and heard footsteps behind me. I turned around and saw everyone except for Dad, which isn't a surprise.

"Strap in." I took off and put in the coordinates then put it on auto pilot. My body shivered and I say my fingers faintly start to turn blue. I sighed and rested my head back on the seat.

I was about to doze off but Clint tapped me on the shoulder.

"Go get some sleep." I nodded and got up. The only seat that was open was one by Steve so I sat in it. Steve turned to me and gave me a small smile but I didn't return it.

I leaned my head back and closed my eyes.

"You could use my shoulder you know," Steve whispered in my ear and I nodded but didn't move.

For some reason, I'm still shaken by what I did and how I almost killed him. And it's like everyone is completely ignoring it.

Steve sighed and grabbed my hand. "I love you, Maddie." He whispered and kissed the side of my head. Then he kissed my hand and put it on his lap.

I interlocked our fingers and gently  squeezed his hand. Then I went to sleep.

"Wake up Maddison, we're here." My eyes shot open and I got up.

"Land in the forest," I tell Clint as I see us approach it. 

He lands and everyone piles out except for Natasha and Bruce.

"You guys know what to do, I honestly don't know what we're going up against but..."

I hear the sound of a rocket and see Tony flying in. He lowered himself a few feet away.

"Did I miss the party?" I rolled my eyes.

"Split up." I walked away from them but was pulled back. Steve grabbed my waist and kissed me. I sighed and kissed him back.

He pulled away and rested his forehead on mine. "Be safe."

I scoff. "Like it matters at this point. Only have 10 hours." He gave me a look and I sighed. "Sorry, I will." I pecked him on the lips and walked off.

I got to the south side of the building and turned on my com.

"Ready?"

"Yup."

"Yeah."

"Ready."

"Go." I kicked the door down and all the guards turned to me. They raised their guns and I immediately pulled mine out and started shooting. I ducked behind the door as I was shooting them. When there was one left I I raised my guns and pulled the triggers. But nothing came out and he shot me in the thigh.

I yelled then pulled out a knife from my boot and threw it at his neck. He dropped dead and I looked down at my bullet wound.

I put my hand over it and use my powers to freeze the wound so it will stop bleeding. It hurts like a bitch but it'll suffice, for now.

I picked up 2 hand guns and strap a rifle around my back. I run down the corridor, occasionally shooting at the agents.
