Poem #5// Racing Slow

It seemed like forever
Since the moment you arrived.
And as the night carried on,
Time slowly traveled by.

We sat the same
All throughout the hour.
Then the second and third came,
And we dove head first to the water.

It was subtle in the beginning,
And then it grew stronger-
To the point where I was attached,
And our tangled limbs made the moments longer.

The grin on my face is staying,
And the endless giggles are not straying.
For it's the small things you do
That make me crave you endlessly.

The way you teased my small body,
Or the way your fingers danced in mine.
The way your breathing lulled me to sleep,
And the way you wouldn't let me go.

I was caged in your arms,
But I didn't want to leave.
Just laying there with you
Was enough to forget it all and feel relieved.

The pattern of your heartbeat,
Was a song that no other music could defeat.
We were so shallow and calm at the surface,
Yet already, we were drowning in the deep.

My head was on your chest,
Your heart was racing slow.
When the final moment came,
I never wanted you to go.
