Chapter 23

I was thankful Mae wasn't mad at me anymore, because now she was back to helping me carry my books to class at school. She didn't even care if her class was on the other side of the school and she would have to show up late.

That was what I loved about her.

When we got to my calculus class, she stopped by the door where she usually handed me my stuff. However, she didn't. Instead, she just scoffed as she looked it. "So she sits beside you?" Mae asked.

Confused, I looked where her glance was before sighing. Mae still hated April, even though all April did was help me to class that one time.

"The teacher told her to sit there," I said. "I didn't say 'Hey, April. You should sit beside me'."

"You could have told the teacher to put her somewhere else," Mae said.

I raised an eyebrow. "So you want me to tell the teacher to move April just because my girlfriend doesn't want me talking to other girls?"

Mae suddenly hit me in the arm with my book.

       "Ow!"

"I never said I don't want you talking to other girls," Mae said. "I just don't want you talking to her."

"Mae, she just helped me one time, I said. "That's it."

Mae shoved my book into my chest, making me grab it with one of my hands, which was quite hard while I was holding onto my crutch. "That's it? She helped you when that's my job as a girlfriend since your're injured. She's trying to replace me."

"She's not trying to replace you," I said. "I mean, I doubt she knows that you're my girlfriend."

"Oh, so you didn't tell her?" Mae asked.

"It didn't come up," I said. "I'm not going to just be like 'Hey, I have a girlfriend' out of the blue."

"You should," she said. "Otherwise, she'll think you'll available and she'd shmooze up to you."

I sighed. "Jealous Mae isn't my favorite Mae."

"I hate you," she said before gripping the collar of my shirt and pulling me towards her, pressing her lips on mine. She then walked away.

       I didn't understand girls.

Why did I think it was smart to have a girlfriend?

I now praise my dad for putting up with my mom for all these years.

Releasing a confused breath, I made my way to my desk, dropping my book on the desk and setting my crutches on the ground. "Hey," April said, giving me a smile.

"Hi," I said, still feeling very confused about Mae. Yesterday, she told me she loved me, then today she hated me, and she kissed me right after.

"You okay?" she asked. "You look....troubled."

"Girl problems," I said. "My girlfriend is being very confusing."

I swear, the look on April's face dropped for a few seconds before returning to her resting face. "You have a girlfriend?" she asked.

"Yeah," I said. "You know Mae?"

"No, the name doesn't ring a bell," she said.

I raised an eyebrow. "She's part of D.A.N.C.E. as well. Short, blonde hair. Could have been giving you the stink eye."
