Chapter 42

I woke up to something, well someone, sitting on my back. I groaned and shifted around, which only caused Mae to lay down on top of me. "Come on, get up," she said. "We have a long day ahead of us."

"No, you have a long day ahead of you," I pointed out. "I will just be following you around, seeing if I can forgive you."

Mae sighed. "I wish you would make it easier for me."

"Hello? I am making it easy for you," I said. "I could have very well said I will never forgive you and went back home."

"But you're not telling me exactly what I have to do to get you to forgive me," Mae said.

"Aww, then you should have thought about that when we decided to ignore me and lied to me," I said.

"Fair point," Mae said. "I'm lucky enough you're giving me another chance. Oh, and speaking of, I talked to Jerome last night. I felt bad for leading him on so I called to apologize. He's fine. He even told me he didn't have feelings for me anymore and he was trying to convince himself that he did, but he couldn't."

"Why would he try convincing himself that he has feelings for you?" I asked.

"Beats me," Mae said. "So, can you get up now?"

"Well, I would, but someone is sitting on me," I pointed out.

Mae got off the couch and knelt down beside it to look at me. She leaned forward to kiss me, but I moved my head so she kissed my cheek. "What's wrong?" she asked.

"Two things," I said. "One, I have morning breath. And two, we're not allowed to kiss until I've forgiven you."

"What? That's not fair," Mae said.

"Sucks for you," I said before sitting up on the couch. "I bet you really regret ignoring me now, don't you?"

"Are you going to hold that over my head forever?" Mae asked.

"Possibly," I said. I stood up from the couch and went to the washroom to brush my teeth and hair. I then got changed as well before walking out of the washroom. "What time is it anyway?"

"Almost noon," Mae replied. "You sure like sleeping in late. So, the first thing will do is go to Mount Royal to have a picnic. I already prepared the picnic basket while you were sleeping."

"Okay," I said. "You get the say in whatever happens for the day. I'll just follow along and decide if you are worthy of forgiveness or not."

"Why do I have a feeling that you're going to be making this really hard?" Mae asked as she went to the kitchen to grab the picnic basket.

       "Probably because I am."

Mae glared at me before grabbing a picnic blanket as well before she gestured for me to follow her out of the house. She stored the picnic basket and blanket in the backseat of my car before we got inside.

Mae gave me the directions to the park. It took about half an hour to drive there.

Once we were out of my car, I locked the doors and Mae led me to the spot she wanted us to have a picnic at. She led me right to a lake and set the blanket close by the water.

We sat on the picnic blanket and she opened the basket. She pulled out a bag of chips and handed it to me. "This took me a long time to find," she said. "I woke up around eight and since you were still sleeping and went to at least five stores to find smoke bacon chips."
