You slammed the comic book under your rump in surprise. You didn't want anyone to know you had been snooping, even though you were part of the team. The sliding door closed again, but not a single voice broke the silence. You slowly turned your head to search for a breathing visitor. Only thing is, robots don't breathe.
A small, metallic puppy was cowering in fear in the corner of the room. His robotic whimpers were very quiet, almost silent. A cold tail was lowered between his legs, almost as if he was afraid. Guilt washed over you as a memory of an animal cruelty commercial popped in your head. The pup moved his eyes off the ground and pointed them into yours. You couldn't bare the pleading eyes very long.
You released the book from under your rear, and cautiously walked to the scared dog. You crouched to the floor, and began the pet the hard head of the mechanic animal. He sniffed your hand, and started pushing up into you gentle rub. A smile appeared on your face as you watched the cuteness unfold.
The small android ran to the beanbag chair, and whiffed the smell from the comic book in curiosity. You giggles softly as you seated yourself on the chair, and places the animal on your lap. The creature began to relax, and you began reading again while petting the dog's smooth head. After a while, you felt the robot fall asleep to your heart beat, but you continued to follow the worded adventure.
You finished the first ark, and you began to grab another when a young voice echoed through the halls. "T-Pup, come out. I need to update your firewall, little guy."
Without waking the machine, you out the book away on the shelf. You grasped the sleeping animal, and cuddled him comfortably in your arms like a baby. You walked out into the hallway, where you saw a two-tailed fox searching every nook and cranny in the area. He crawled from under a table, bumping his head by accident, and released the screwdriver from his hand in slight pain. Tails rubbed his head, before standing on his feet.
He looked off the ground and noticed your presence, but not the robot's."Oh, hey, (Y/N)," the genius said, shutting his eyes while rubbing the throbbing part of his cranium. "I didn't know you were awake. Sonic, Amy, Big, and Cream usually don't wake up til noon, hehe."
"I woke up a while ago, did some exploring, and kept myself busy," you stated.
"In that case, you haven't seen a mechanical dog running around, have you?" the fox asked, opening his blue eyes again.
It took a few seconds for his eyes to fall on the sleeping machine. Once he realized the search was over, Tails scooped the dog out of your arms. T-Pup awoke with a start, and started shaking in fear once more. The young freedom fighter scratched behind the android's ear, making the invention calm down.
"Thanks, (Y/N)!!! I need to complete a few adjustments so this little guy can function properly in the cold region. You should probably head to the bridge for breakfast, and get ready for when we arrive at Artika," Tails suggested as he walked away his the machine.
You watched the device lick the Fox's face, making the young boy laugh. You couldn't help but wonder, What does a robot-tongue feel like?
