*Your POV*
I woke up really sore and uncomfortable.
"Ughhh!" I groaned and opened my eyes. My eyes were still really puffy from the night before and I remembered that I'd slept next to Adam on the bathroom floor. I felt like I needed to cry but unfortunately, I've cried myself out.
"What. The. FUCK. Are you doing!?" The angry voice came from behind me.
"Wha..?" I spun around to see a livid Alesa standing in the doorway with a red face.
"What are you doing?" She repeated taking a step forward.
"I..I just woke up..!" I stuttered and slid backwards.
"Why did you sleep next to Adam? Why is his wound so b-ig?" Her voice cracked on the last word.
"I'm sorry that Adam and I were such close friends in High school. I'm sorry that I wanted to spend the night next to my old friend. I'm sorry that John wasn't careful in pulling the knife out of his abdomen. I'm sorry for ruining everything." I stood up and stared her down.
"Get out of my house." Alesa ordered and pointed out the bathroom door.
"Bu-But Adam!" I exclaimed and looked down at my old friends body.
"I said leave. I want to spend time with my husbands body." She said. I stared at her utterly confused.
"Why?" I asked glancing once more at Adam's stiff limbs and stiff body and the towels that had fallen off his body.
"Because I was married to the man and had a child with the man. I think I deserve some time with him." She said angrily. I looked deep in her hazel eyes that were filled with rage and loss.
"I'll lea-ve you to i-t then..." My voice cracked twice with emotion and I shouldered my way past Alesa with salty tears streaming down my cheeks again though I don't know how I managed to get tears flowing again.
I rushed down the stairs into the cabinet containing cleaning supplies and grabbed a mop, a sponge, a bucket, and soap. I walked over the the kitchen sink and ran the water until it was hot. I filled the bucket, the steady noise calming me until the bucket was 3/4 of the way full.
"Okay..." I whispered as I added in the soap. I hauled the bucket out of the sink and lugged it up the staircase. I walked past the bathroom to see Alesa weeping over her husband's body. I sharp claw of guilt and loss clawed my gut. A tear slid slowly down my face and I quietly walked onward.
I huffed and set down the bucket of soapy water. I watched as I slid the mop in the water until it was completely submerged. I pulled the dripping wet mop out and started cleaning the floor. I cleaned less than a quarter before I heard an enraged scream.
"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?! I TOLD YOU TO GET OUT OF MY HOUSE YOU BITCH!" Alesa shrieked.
"I'm helping! I'm trying to anyways..." I sadly looked at the ground and something caught my eye. Adam's glasses. I bent over using the mop for support and I picked them up.
"What are you doing?" Alesa demanded.
"Do..do you want these?" I asked her as I held my hand out showing her the glasses.
"NO!" She screamed and hit my hand away. She doubled over crying and she stayed like that for a while in the kneeling position.
"Alesa..." I started. "It'll be okay...Adam wouldn't want to see you like this..." I wasn't sure I was saying the right thing but...okay.
"How would you know?!" Alesa snapped.
"I've known Adam for a long time...long enough to know that he wouldn't want his wife mourning over his body. Instead, he would want you to take care of Mason and try to make the best of things." I said.
"Go away..." Alesa said.
"I'll finish mopping..." I quietly dipped the mop back in the water.
"I said go away...meaning get out of my house.." Alesa said as she stared at me through bloodshot eyes.
"Alesa, listen.." I began
"No! You listen!" She stood up and glared at me. "I just lost my husband! I don't want you around! You're the reason why he died!" She shouted.
"I know..." I whispered and looked down at the bloody floor. "There was nothing anyone could do..." I looked up and a few tears slipped from my eyes, I quickly wiped them away.
"Go. The. Fuck. Away. From my house." Alesa ordered and pointed towards the windows.
"Can I just finish cleaning..?" I asked and looked down at the mess on the floor.
"No! Get the fuck out!" Alesa screamed.
"F-fine.." I stuttered sadly and dropped the mop. A flash caught my eye and I turned my head towards the light. It was Adam's glasses. I walked over to them and bent over to pick them up.
"What are you doing?" Alesa asked. I held up the broken glasses.
"You're sure you don't want these?" I asked her.
"Yes I'm sure! Go away now!" She screamed. I stared at her.
"I-okay...I'll take them..." I squeezed the broken glasses in my fist gently and I felt some broken glass rub harshly against my soft skin.
"Now get out before I kick your ass!" Alesa screamed.
"Okay....goodbye Alesa." I said before walking away. I looked down at the glasses in my hand.
"I will never forget you, Adam..." I whispered. "If only it was me instead..."
