"Melanie watch out!" I shouted, watching her stumble into a guy in a button-down shirt and khakis. The sunglasses covered his eyes, but I knew immediately who it was.
He caught the small girl in his arms, picking her up so that she was on her feet once again. "You okay?"
Melanie nodded as I jogged toward the two. He noticed me and smiled, opening his arms. I fell into them, the embrace sending shivers down my spine.
"Nice to see you again babe," Matt cooed into my ear so that only I can hear, making me blush.
"Sophia, is he your boyfriend?" Melanie asked, making my cheeks turn a bright red color.
"Is she yours?" Matt asked, and I nodded.
"My annoying 4-year-old sister," I stated, emphasizing the word annoying.
"Hey!" Melanie exclaimed, standing underneath me and crossing her arms, "I'm not annoying."
"I see the resemblance," Matt chuckled, making me smack his arm.
"Hey!" I exclaimed, giving him a stern look. He laughed in return.
"Not helping," he chuckled.
"Hey, mister? Are you two dating?" Melanie asked, poking Matt's arm. Matt bent down to her height and looked at me behind her.
"Not yet, but maybe we will be soon," he smiled at Melanie, making her scrunch her nose in disgust.
"Ew. You like my sister?" Melanie questioned in a disgusted tone, making me glare at her. He leaned into her ear, giving me a wink.
"Yes I do, but you can't tell her," he whispered, although I could barely make out the words he had said. He pulled away from her ear while I crossed my arms. "Can you keep that a secret for me?" Melanie was quick to nod, grabbing his hand and wrapping her pinkie around his. The smile on his face was soft. "Thank you. What's your name sweetheart?"
"Melanie," she grinned, backing up and grabbing my pinkie.
"Cute name. My name is Matt." Melanie smiled at him while I stood there, still confused. Matt took a step towards me, leaning in so that his lips were close to mine.
"Meet me at the beach today around 2," he whispered. I nodded, looking at Melanie who was now looking at a candy shop, seeming dazed.
"Okay," I grinned, making him smile. He leaned in closer, his lips almost touching mine. My hand gripped Melanie's a bit harsher, the nervousness overwhelming me.
"I am so telling Mom," Melanie stated, making me roll my eyes.
"Let's just get you home. I'll see you in a few Matt?"
"Definitely," Matt smiled, winking at me as we turned away and walked off. "Text me!" he yelled at us.
"I will!" I yelled back. "Hey Mel?"
"What?" she growled as we walked down the path that led us home.
"What did Matt tell you?" She looked at me and grinned.
"Sorry big sis. I was sworn to secrecy." I groaned and rolled my eyes, stepping through my front door.
