"And that's about it. It was quite the summer to remember, I'll tell you that." My friends all looked at me, astonished. It was quiet for a bit, but I pretended not to notice it.

"I... am so sorry," Damian looked at me with his sympathetic eyes, but I just shook it off.

"I'm fine now. It's all a thing of the past. Besides, it was 2 months ago. I'm completely over it."

Liar.

"Can we see the ring?" Anna asked, speaking for both herself and Bianca. I unwrapped the chain from around the neck, the small ring hanging off the end.

"Woah." Bianca took it into her hands, admiring the small ring in her hands. "This is amazing."

"It's so pretty!" Anna exclaimed, admiring it with Bianca.

"He bought you that?" Jaden exclaimed, checking out the many sapphire diamonds on the infinity and around the ring.

"He must of been stacked," Damian chuckled, glancing from me, to the ring, and back to the ring.

"I guess so," I sighed, looking down at the ground. Tears began to pool in my eyes as I watched my friends treat the ring so preciously. They were all gawking over how amazing the ring he gave me was. The ring signified the promises that he had made, that were now broken.

"You must not know me. I'm Matthew Espinosa, the guy with the biggest heart you've ever seen. When I say I promise, I keep that promise."

...

"I love you."

Liar.

He said that we could make this work, and a little part of me hoped that we did. But, as you know, things don't always work out the way we want them to. Just as I had predicted, we talked nonstop for the first week; constantly video calling and texting. That is until we started school. The two of us began to slowly drift apart because the other was too busy. We were talking less, and less until we stopped talking altogether.

"Sophia? Are you okay?"

I looked up and saw Jaden wrap an arm around my shoulders, and I just shrugged letting a tear slip. I started muttering gibberish that was barely audible as I cried my feelings away.

"He just meant so much to me, and that was all thrown away. I fell in love with him in a matter of months, and he had been my first everything. First boyfriend, first love. And it was all just a waste of time," I cried out, the tears falling down my face. Bianca slid the ring towards me, making me look up at her. She was giving me a warm smile, patting my shoulder.

"It all happened for a reason," she spoke slowly, "And because it all went down the way it did, you can now learn from it. Your first heartbreak. This can be a story you can tell to your future children going through their first heartbreak. Men are trash."

I let out a giggle through the sobs, nodding while wiping my tears away. As if on cue, the bell rang for 1st period. Another torturous day at the hell hole known as Sierra High.

I walked with Anna to Chemistry class, taking my usual seat in the back beside no one. There were mumbles throughout the class as the seats all filled up, Anna right in front of me.

"So, do I get to see a picture of this Matthew Espinosa?" Anna smirked, turning towards me as we waited for the teacher to walk in. I simply shrugged, sliding my phone toward her. He was still on my lock screen.

"This is adorable!" Anna exclaimed, sliding my phone back towards me. "Not that I can really see him, but he seems cute."

"He was insanely cute," I giggled, watching as the teacher walked in with a new kid. I could hardly see his face underneath his hood as he talked in secret with Mr. Chandler. I stayed silent in my seat, slowly taking out my books needed for the day. I felt a presence beside me, the new kid about to take a seat.

"Hello?" I said in confusion, watching as he settled in. He glanced at me, looking at me carefully, before turning away again. I shrugged, turning my attention back to Mr. Chandler. The teacher made his way towards our pair of desks, stopping beside the student beside me.

"Can you please take your hood off, sir?" The guy took his hood off, hiding his face from me with his arm. "Thank you. This is chemistry class, therefore you are going to need a pencil, a composition notebook, and a scientific calculator. We are currently learning the bonds between ions. Megan can explain this to you." Mr. Chandler nodded at me before nodding his head in approval. "Alright, call me over when you need help." Mr. Chandler began talking to the rest of the class, excusing me to explain the stuff to the new kid.

"Alright, basically the bond between an ion can have an electronegativity difference from 0 to 4. 0 - 0.4 is a non polar covalent bond, 0.4 - 1.7 is a polar covalent bond, and 1.7 - 4 is an ionic bond." I began explaining, pointing to things in my notebook. The kid never moved, still hiding his face from me. "If you'd like I can lend you my notebook so that you can catch yourself up a bit." The new kid just nodded, taking the book from in front of us, and began to read it from the beginning.

"You have really pretty notes," the guy spoke for the first time, clearing his throat of what sounded like a cold. Just my luck to be stuck with the new kid who also happened to be sick.

"Thanks." He was still hiding his face from me as he read the notes. I looked at him in confusion, examining him up and down. He had the same hair that Matt did, a dirty blonde color, just a bit longer than Matt's. I rolled my eyes at myself. Must I compare everyone to Matt?

I watched as he flipped through the pages, his fingers holding onto the next page the same way Matt had when we flipped through magazines together. It was almost as if they were the same person. "I have a question."

"What's up?" he whispered, flipping to the next page about electron configurations. His shoulders tensed a bit as my shoulder came into contact with his as I leaned back.

"Why are you hiding from me?" I watched as he froze in his spot, the same way Matt did in awkward situations. This was starting to make my heart race with high hopes.

"Because you'll think I'm ugly." I laughed out of my nose, rolling my eyes.

"Yeah right, just move your hand." I grabbed his arm, bringing it down to his lap. I held his hand in my own to make sure he wouldn't put it back up. He was a bit tensed up, his fingers refusing to wrap around my hand to complete our hands. His face was turned away from me as he looked harder at the notebook. His hands fit perfectly into mine as if I had held them before now. My eyes stared at our hands, the way my hand held on tightly and his wanting to be so badly released from my grip.

In a way, this almost resembled my relationship with Matt. On my end, my grip was tight and sturdy, almost impossible to make me let go. On the other hand, his hand was hardly holding on and could easily slip away.

"Please look at me." He refused to, so I took my other hand and tilted his head to face mine. That's when the world stopped spinning. My heart stopped beating, my surroundings disappeared, and our gaze held on. I dropped his hand immediately as I felt the tears start to pool up all over again.

"I told you it was ugly." I just looked at him in shock, refusing to cry. I blinked back the tears, replaced with a blank stare. It was as if I had no emotion stored in me. "Hello Sophia Grey," his voice spoke, a bit lighter and softer than my own.

"Matthew Espinosa."
