I was chilly, but I was warm too. Where was I? I felt eyes on me... two pair, no, three... but who were they? Two were up wind and the other was down wind. The two up wind were Gaara's siblings... crap! The other I couldn't much tell at the moment sense they seemed to be very cautious. I stirred a little as someone then moved from underneath me. It was then I realized my sense of smell was being overwhelmed by a certain male red head.
My eyes shot open as I remembered sending him and Shukaku into my jinchuriki room. The only thing that was different was that the sunshine had vanished and the shadows of the night had fallen. "You're awake," Gaara replied. Apparently, he had no idea of the other three pairs of eyes. I looked up at him, realizing he had one hand wrapped around me and the other folded behind his head. "Why didn't you wake me?" I asked innocently. "I didn't want to wake you," Was all he replied with.
I sat up as Gaara did the same, but I was still in his lap... like this, I was taller than him, as I looked down upon his face. We were silent for a moment before Gaara spoke up again, "What is it?" I blushed, still not turning away from his gaze, seeing as I was caught in his eyes again, "It's just your eyes." "What about them?" His voice sounded emotionless like always but I knew he was curious, sense he didn't tear his gaze away either. I giggled, "I like them... they're different. They hold everything but stay so strong. I've never seen a color like them." He just blinked, "Surely they can't be as stunning as yours though." I was shocked for a moment... did the Gaara of the Desert just compliment me?
It wasn't ever a surprise that I got compliments from all the guys I grew up with... I was always being asked out or being swooned over. Sometimes they'd even fight over me until I go and hit them upside their heads and get them to apologize to one another.
The guys I had grown up around never got the time to know me, and honestly, I could say that I had never got to be my true self around them. Here and now, with Gaara, I felt like I could be me... Sense I had given him the unsuspecting hug, I was able to be me. I didn't have to be rough and tough, I didn't have to show off to prove my talent, I didn't have to hide that I was actually fragile. I felt like the compliment was real, like it was actually Gaara, not Shukaku... now that I think about it, Shukaku could have been the extra confidence boost.
Just as I had thought, Gaara's face suddenly blushed out, his nose scrunching up in mild frustration, as he turned his head away from me, leaning back on his hands, "I mean... Um.. I." I giggled realizing Shukaku must have had something to do with the matter. Gaara turned back to face my giggling as I replied with, "Thank you," I paused though, "I wish I could take credit, but these aren't my original eyes. Even though mine where blue, they weren't as light as this." This got Gaara's attention as he then turned fully back to me as the pink that had dusted his cheeks had vanished, "What do you mean?"
"Well, a month before the Chunin Exams, I had an eye transplant," I began. "No, I mean, were you originally blind or did something happen?" This is seriously the most I have ever heard Gaara talk. "Oh, well I originally had my sight, but it was taken from me at the age of six... You see, I'm an advanced student, which really isn't too much of a surprise, but... it's a long story," I was about to give up, lowering my gaze to the ground.
I had never told anyone exactly what had happened. "Well, I have all night," Gaara replied, "I'd like to know." I shot my head up to look at him, a little surprised. He then turned his head to the side to avoid my gaze again as the dust of pink came back upon his cheeks, "That is, if it's ok with you?"
I just smiled lightly, "I can tell you, as long as you don't tell anyone else... truth is, I've never told anyone how it happened." "I won't tell anyone," Gaara promised. I took a deep breath as I got out of Gaara's lap and sat beside him, "Well, where do I start? I'm an advanced student, starting in the Medical Core and achieving Genin rank at age five. The Hokage assigned me to a Jounin, from a Clan that's known across the lands. Her name being Kisuka Yoshigawa, from the Yoshigawa Clan; extremely respected and loyal to the Leaf. She took me without hesitation and eventually took in Naruto too, but he turned out to be too much of a handful," I giggled to myself as I continued, "But my training was top secret, as ordered by the Hokage, seeing that my jutsu is quite rare. We usually held training outside of the village, in a secluded area, so no one would drop in and see what my training was about. She had told me to meet her at our usual spot outside of the village. I had made it there early, but didn't realize that I would soon be under attack. Rouge ninjas came out of nowhere as I was completely out numbered. For holding them off at the age of six, for as long as I had, was impressive, but it was too good to last. A ninja had pulled the trick I used on Kabuto during the preliminaries... sending a large amount of senbon to either the lower or upper half of the body, then striking the other with a smaller number of senbon to make a more affective attack... unfortunately, they took my eyes. But someone came to my aid, though they weren't part of the village, just before Kisuka had finally got there. After losing consciousness and waking back up in the hospital, I realized I still had sight but it was all just blurs of color. My dream was to become the Head of the ANBU Black Ops under the Hokage... and I was sure as hell that I was going to continue being a ninja. Around that time, I had officially become aware of me being a jinchuriki and began to use the senses of that of the Fennec Fox..."
Gaara then replied, "So that's how you were able to see." I nodded, "Yes," Then continued, "I trained long and hard to get back up to my original level, and by all means did. Two months ago, I completely lost my sight, not even to ever see blurs of color again... but a donor came up, having the same rare blood type as I do and was even able to pay for the procedure... But I didn't find out who it was until yesterday..."
It got silent before he asked, "Who was it?" I sighed, "My sensei... Kisuka. But she gave them to me, because she's not going to live much longer. That, and she wanted to give my sight back because she wasn't there when I needed her most. I promised myself, before I realized she was going to give her eyes to me, that I wouldn't take them for granted and I would make sure to put them to good use... and that's what I plan to do."
He said nothing more as we both then looked up at the moon. I then paused, "What time is it?" Gaara turned to me and shrugged as I also turned to him. I sighed as I got up, "I need to head back home before Naruto goes on a raid to try and find me. He's probably worried sick." "Is he really your brother?" Gaara raised a nonexistent eyebrow. I just giggled, "We may not look it, but Naruto and I are actually twins. Fraternal twins."
Gaara seemed shocked at the reply, but brushed it aside quickly. It was then I remembered the three pairs of eyes again... damn it! Kankuro had nearly fell out of the tree him and his sister were in. Gaara then grasped my hand, "I'll walk you home." I then snapped away from Kankuro's un-ninja-like-ness and smiled, holding his hand back. I then got the idea to have some fun, "I'll race you." Gaara just barely gave smirked, "You're on." And we were off as I let a giggle slip past my lips.
It was indeed true that I felt like I could truly be myself around Gaara... I mean, I could around Naruto too, but I had to be a little more responsible with him, just sense I was the one who had to take care of him. He had grown up rather quick, but I was still the one looking after him.
By now, Gaara and I were leaping from roof to roof. I had also done this to get Gaara away from his siblings, sense he was rough and demanding with them too. If Gaara would have realized that they were there, there was no doubt he would of tried to kill them, whether I was there or not. The wind was whipping through my hair as the dark clouds rolled across the sky with the full moon shining in all its beauty.
But it was then Gaara jumped down in front of me, making me stop, wondering why he would suddenly do so. Looking around his frame, I found that the last of the three Sound ninja standing before us: Dosu.
"What do you want?" Gaara demanded harshly. I didn't flinch as I kept my eyes on the Sound ninja. "I was planning on taking you out as you slept, but now we can just fight here. Then I'll have a better chance of fighting Sasuke, once you and your little girlfriend are out of the way," Dosu replied darkly. Gaara got defensive when Dosu mentioned me... apparently his girlfriend, which I for some reason blushed at.
"I know all about your sand attacks," Dosu continued, "I wonder if it's faster than my sound attacks?" Gaara made sure I was to stay behind him as he pushed me back so I couldn't see the Sound Genin. "He gets blood thirsty during the full moon..." Gaara then sent his sand at him as Dosu's only reply was, "What is this?! What are you?!" And then a blood curdling scream.
He was a goner.
I took a deep breath, mentally thanking Gaara that he had not allowed me to see the deed done. I just wrapped my arms around Gaara's waist as he and Shukaku slowly calmed down. His ragged breathing becoming steady once more. My head rested between his tense shoulder blades. His breathing eventually evened out as he then spoke up with a rough, "Sorry."
I smiled slightly, "It's alright, you were just protecting me and yourself. So there was a good reason for why you did. And sense I'm not one to lie, I can honestly say I didn't see anything." I could feel the content huff the male red head gave as I slowly pulled away, giving a him smirk, "Now, where were we?" With that I jumped off as Gaara was right by my side.
