-------------------------------

Come to find out, Nanami had fell down a hill and landed in between two trees that were really close together. I had laughed hysterically. But once we made it back to the village, all was well.

News of my becoming Jounin had also spread quickly once team Kakashi returned from their mission. Uchiha though seemed very off and wouldn't talk to me for anything. Ever sense that day on the roof, he'd been awful distant. I had taken a few night walks with him, but he never said anything. In all honesty, it was bugging me. Considering Orochimaru may have been involved; it worried me, but I knew the young Uchiha could hold his own... at least I personally thought he could.

At the current moment I was with Shikamaru, Choji, and Nanami. Us three ninja were teaching her the basics of being a ninja. Why? For the simple matter of the situation we ran into while trying to meet up with team Kakashi and the Sand team when coming back from the Land of Sunflowers. Nanami could not fight nor defend herself. Therefore, I was teaching her, just for future reference. I could honestly care less if she was a medical ninja, anything could happen, so might as well be prepared.

"I'm so beat!" Nanami complained. I didn't blame her, I was pretty strict on her. But I knew she could do it, so I didn't feel bad for her. "Oh, come on, Nanami, you got this, here I'll show you again," Choji encouraged.

I was sitting beside Shika on the hill side watching Choji teach Nanami self defense basics. "Are you sure about teaching her?" Shika asked. "Of course I am. What if she is sent on a mission and I'm not there to protect her? Even though she's on the medical core, she may be asked to go and do a field job. What if she's attacked?" I replied calmly. "I see your point, but why have Choji and I help out in her training?" Shika complained boredly. "Well, for one, you two are more patient than the others. Second, you two mainly have two to three skills each, making Nanami not feel inferior. Third, she knows you two and enjoys your company. That, and it seems Choji's gained a bit of a confidence boost," Shika seemed to take this in as we watched Choji and the honey blonde girl fight.

"Besides," I added, "she admires the ninjas and what they do. I sometimes catch her day dreaming about things while watching the ninja of the village jump from roof to roof. But it's mainly her fear of blood that's holding her back."

Shika thought some more before he asked, "Why is she so scared of blood?" I sighed, "It was a little time after I had lost my eyes when there was a village that had mysteriously been set ablaze. It was currently known to be settled near the ruins of the village where the Uzumaki Clan once resided. No one is quite sure how the peaceful village could have been targeted. But from what I understand, Nanami was the only survivor. She was brought back to the Leaf Village for her own safety... that and, as a seven year old girl, she had nowhere else to go. From what she described, there had been ninja that had murdered her family and everyone around her. But when ANBU went in and checked, there was no trace of any enemy ninja... they had labeled the investigation 'discontinued' when one of the members of the squad found that the fire was most likely started from within the village."

Shikamaru was shocked by this before he countered with, "How do you know all this?" I simply replied to the lazy ninja as I kept watching Nanami follow Choji's instructions, "Blind girls can't read." Shika literally anime fell at my response. After a few moments passed he straightened himself out, "Is there anything else you probably shouldn't know about, that I need to be aware of?" I thought for a moment before smirking, "I don't know, just tell me what you're trying to figure out."

He just sighed, "You really are full of secrets, aren't you? Even if you are a prodigy, you hold so many secrets from everyone around you. It's like you're smarter than me." "Well, I am sometimes," I giggled, "when I'm able to beat you at Shogi."

--- A Few Days Later ---

I was sitting in my office taking what I had learned in the Land of Sunflowers and had begun applying it to Lee's case scenario. I had been at it for hours and at this point I thought I was becoming delusional. I had been so close to raising the percentage to a higher survival level. At this point I was sending Shukaku several rainbow colored words.

By the time I was done doing that I slammed my head on the desk as I groaned, "I'm getting nowhere!" After a few minutes of shut eye, I opened them again looking at a very specific part of Lee's spine. Staring at it a few more minutes a thought suddenly popped into my head. I shot up and scribbled the thought down quickly before running out the door.

I was now running through town looking through all the restaurants and bars looking for a busty lady we all now called Hokage. I couldn't sense her chakra in the Hokage tower so I knew she had to be about the village. The thing was though, I was so mentally out of it that I was too lazy to try and use my fox-like-skills to sniff her out. Eventually I did find her drinking, also looking at a case scenario book for the 50/50 surgery. I bust in as the store manager yelled at me for being underage. I had lashed out with something like, 'Get over it, this is a life or death situation if I don't get to see the Hokage now!' I could seriously care less if she was drunk right now or not.

"Holota," Tsunade greeted as I forcefully sat myself in front of her with a 'thud' to the table, "what's the matter?" "Look at this!" I demanded. She blinked at me, completely sober I might add, and took Lee's case study from me. She read over my notes quietly and carefully as she then smiled, "That's exactly what I was looking for." At this, she turned and showed me her notes and I read my smile got bigger, "If we put our scenarios together, we have an average of an 80% survival rate! Maybe even 90!" I was ecstatic! Tsunade just smiled, "We did it." I could not see how she was so calm.

Seeing as I could not contain my energy any longer, I took both of our plans and raced back to the hospital. By the time I got there I heard Nanami speak up, "There she is! Holota!" I abruptly stopped and turned to the girl as I also spotted two green jumpsuits. I smiled, "Oh, Lee! What are you doing here? I was just about to go and find you."

I walked to him so he wouldn't have to hobble as he just replied with, "I want to go through with the surgery." My smile widened even more... if that was possible. "That's great!" I shouted. Gai gave me the most strangest look as Lee looked like I had given him more hope. "Why is that?" Gai murmured. "Because, Lady Tsunade and I have come up with a procedure that had bumped the survival rate up to 80% if not higher!" At this, both of them began to cry as Lee could only ask, "Really?" I nodded, "Really, Lee. I promised and it's a promise I kept. You're still going to be a ninja!"

Eventually the student and sensei ended up bawling, making Nanami cry because they were crying. I then brought them back to my office as we set the procedure to take place first thing in the morning. He couldn't be happier... and honestly, I think I couldn't have been either. I could finally see Lee smile again. And coming from a friend... that was priceless.
