-"This is insane..."- said Daciana while she brushed her hair back in her room.
Sorin watched her from the balcony.
-"She wants to test you?"- said Sorin. "Seems fun"
Daciana glared at him.
-"She just came back from the...dead and now thinks she's still the boss here"- complained Daciana.
Sorin sat behind her on the bed and took the brush from her hands. He then began brushing her hair carefully not to pull it. Daciana had never seen that side of Sorin.
-"I'm still mad at her, you know"-he said while being focused on her hair. "But she's just as stubborn at you are"
Daciana remained silent. It was very rare when Sorin would openly talk about issues from his past.
-"After all, you are her granddaughter"- he continued. "She was forced to learn the ways of a wolf and ended up choosing the path herself for the sake of her family. You did the same thing"
The more he spoke the more thoughtful she got. She had always wanted to know about her real grandmother...Sorin was the best man she could ask for some info.
-"I'm sorry to bring this up, but..."- began Sorin.
-"But?"- she asked.
-"She reminded me of the incident with your mother. Bitten and transformed, though Dacia certainly took a long time to transform into a vampire"-
Daciana looked down and didn't say another word.
. . .
The next day Dacia's test had to be placed on hold.
-"There's going to be some sort of experiment with you two"- said Sam scratching his head awkwardly. "This is Alexander, despite the fact that Penelope never let him show his face around here, he's the best guy to ask about weird events like Dacia's vampiric transformation and Daciana's odd scent"
There was a young man standing next to Sam.
-"Hi, I'm Alexander. Pleased to meet you"- he presented himself before Dacia and Daciana, who were both a bit annoyed with the fact that they had to be used for an experiment without their knowledge. "I'll be doing a series of tests between the two of you. I've heard that both of you have been bitten by a vampire before, right?"
Dacia and Daciana looked at each other.
-"No"- said Daciana. "I've never been bitten"
Alexander looked at her curiously and wrote it down in a small notebook. He had been studying both clans for some years now, but he had never been into the core of them. The alphas were his only hope to discover why Dacia was now a vampire and why Daciana had tempting blood for vampires.
-"Okay, follow me"- said Alexander.
Both women looked at Sam who simply shrugged. Silviu and Spring followed them outside and noticed that he had made his own camp outside with all the necessary equipment.
-"What the hell is this..."- said Silviu. "I'm kind of worried for you, blood sucker"
-"Why?"- asked Sorin.
-"Because he might take some blood samples and that could make you go mad"-
Sorin frowned.
-"I will leave immediately if that were to happen. I'm not stupid, you know"- retorted Sorin.
They entered a huge white tent where Alexander had most of his gadgets. His dark eyes gleaned with excitement while he organized some things on a table.
-"Okay, so..."- he was about to start asking them about their past and topics that might give him some leads to his investigation, when he noticed that Sorin and Silviu were standing right next to Daciana with their arms folded across their chests.
-"Don't mind us. We're just making sure nothing happens to Alpha Daciana. You did know that she had a guardian, right? And don't mind the vampire. He's always with me"-said Silviu.
Alexander dropped his shoulders and sighed.
-"Very well. Mrs. Dacia Lupu, right?"- began Alexander. "The documents that we managed to recover before Penelope his or burned them all, say that you were bitten by a vampire at a very young age. Is this true?"
Dacia rolled her eyes and then nodded.
-"In case you're wondering, I hadn't transformed yet at the time."- Dacia added. "I'm certain that my son Emil wasn't bitten by a vampire...right Daciana?"
Alexander's eyes widened.
-"Wait, wait...So it's true that both of you are related?"- asked Alexander.
-"Well, allegedly she's my grandmother"- explained Daciana.
Alexander took notes again and scratched his chin thoughtfully.
-"Maybe it could be something genetic...I mean...it would be almost impossible for a werewolf to become a vampire all of the sudden."- Alexander had begun talking to himself.
Silviu tilted his head to one side trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together.
-"Hey, Sorin. Weren't you the one that said that both of their bloods smelled similar?"- spilled Silviu.
Alexander looked at Silviu curiously.
-"He's a vampire?"- Alexander pointed at Sorin. "If you know something, you ought to spill it out"
Sorin looked at Silviu wishing he could kill him at that instant. He had merely tagged along to see what was all that mess about, not together himself involved in it too.
-"I'm not going to be part of this"- said Sorin.
-"What?! But you have to!"- said Alexander.
-"I reject your offer"-
Sorin turned around and walked away. Daciana knew that he was still angry with Dacia and that it would be a pain in the ass to start talking about the past all of the sudden after everything they had been through. Alexander sighed and decided to take a blood sample from Daciana.
. . .
That night, Alexander was stuck to his computer amazed with the results he was able to get. Sam, who was in charge of the guy, stood next to him.
-"What did you find, Alex?"- asked Sam.
Alexander was quite amazed.
-"You won't believe this...My speculations were right. It might be something genetic"- said Alexander while Sam closed in to the screen. "It's mutated. Dacia and Daciana have mutated genes and probably all of their descendants might have a tiny bit of this mutation afterwards"
Sam scratched his head awkwardly.
-"Mind giving me more details, Alex?"- said Sam.
His eyes gleamed and he began speaking.
-"What I mean is that Dacia might've mutated her genes after getting bitten by a vampire. She survived the transformation back then and the vampiric genes might've stayed asleep until the day of her death. They woke up as if responding to the situation she was in. By the time that happened, Emil was already born, meaning he had those same genes in him and passed them along tho his daughter. Though it's quite the case that both granddaughter and grandmother had the strongest mutation"-Alexander had gotten carried away.
-"Lemme get this straight. There are high chances that Daciana might become a vampire as well if she were facing death?"- asked Sam.
-"Technically, yes."-
-"So...we have some sort of hybrid as our alpha?"-
-"Not quite. As long as they have their wolf genes they will never be able to use vampiric powers. They are not born from a vampire and a werewolf. It's a mere but extremely rare mutation. I've never seen something like this in my life"-
Sam squinted his eyes somewhat thoughtful. Sorin had been spying on them the whole time. He looked down at the little bottle hanging from his neck and held it tightly between his right hand.
