30. Awakening

Daciana was standing in the middle of the forest. She was wearing her white dress and was barefoot while standing between two night beasts. One of them growled while the other one deepened its frown.

"Is this your decision, Daciana?",the white wolf spoke first. It seemed like it didn't quite approve of her decision, but it wasn't willing to fight her any longer. The vampire closed its hands into tight fists. Daciana looked at the wolf over her shoulder and nodded slowly.

"You know better than any of us here that I can no longer go back", Daciana responded. The wolf noticed that she was being completely honest and let out a sigh. The vampire, despite knowing that the girl had decided to take its side, wasn't satisfied with her decision.

"We never gave you such option. It was either me or that stinky wolf!", the vampire finally broke its silence. Daciana knew that the vampire just wanted to have total control of her, but if it did, she would cease being herself and not even Sorin would save her. She would not be able to distinguish friend or foe. In the end she would be a bloodsucking monster.

"I chose you, but with my own conditions", Daciana's words only made the vampire's frown deepen. The vampire clenched its hands into fists and remained silent. The would simply looked up at the sky above them and howled for the last time. On the other hand, the vampire turned on its heel and placed its hands on its hips.

"If that's what you want...We won't stop you. You've made your decision after all", those were the vampires last words before looking at her over her shoulder. Daciana was simply smiling broadly and nodded at the vampire. At last, both creatures slowly began fading and the mist was clearing out. Daciana looked up at the sky, it wasn't dark anymore. She could see the bright moon shinning on the dark night sky. She whispered something almost inaudible, maybe something that was more like a prayer...

Daciana...

She slowly opened her eyes and saw Sorin right next to her. Her eyes wandered around the room and she realized that she was still in Bran Castle, specifically in Sorin's room. It was true that her vision was still a bit blurry, but she could still manage to recognize her surroundings quite well. Sorin helped her sit up. Daciana looked down at her hands and realized that they looked pale. She looked up at Sorin a little confused and he simply smiled at her kindly while brushing off some strands of hair that had fallen on her face.

-"Morning"- Sorin spoke sweetly to her. "You hungry?"

Daciana blinked a couple of times unable to comprehend the situation. Suddenly, she felt her throat extremely dry. She looked up at him a little scared. He extended his hand towards a cup filled with blood and handed it over to her.

-"Here, drink this. It should ease your thirst now"- he seemed to not be bothered at all.

Daciana took the cup from his hands and observed it for a while. She gulped hard after realizing what the red liquid was. Without thinking it too much, she drank it all. Her thirst seemed to cease and she felt relaxed now. Sorin smiled at her feeling somewhat relieved.

-"I'll be heading out for a minute. I must tell the others"- Sorin stood up and left the room.

Daciana sat there in silence. She slowly managed to stand up and looked around the room. She remembered that Sorin's room didn't have dark curtains, but for some reason now it did. Daciana decided to see what had happened to her. She felt different, so she took a small mirror she found on a desk and looked at herself. What she saw shocked her a bit. Daciana Lupu now had vampire fangs, her skin was probably as pale as Sorin's and her eyes were somewhat golden. She placed the mirror faced down and sighed. That's right, Daciana Lupu had made her decision and was now a vampire just like Sorin. Suddenly, the door flung open and Silviu ran inside followed by Sorin, Gavril, Dacia and Vlad who had accompanied him. Silviu suddenly stopped midway when Daciana turned around. Her lips were stained with blood. Silviu didn't know what to do now. He wanted to see Daciana and had agreed for her to become a vampire, but now that he was facing reality, it seemed a little confusing for him.
