8. Puzzle

It had been about two days since Lucian had found out the truth about his parent's death. Daciana had barely seen him ever since. She was walking around the manor when she saw Lucian down the hall. A broad smile appeared on her face and she quickly sped up to catch up to him.

-"Lucian!"- she called up to him.

He simply stopped his tracks without turning around to face her. Daciana sighed relieved that she was able to see him.

-"It's been a while. Where have you been, Lucian?"- Daciana asked him sweetly, but Lucian didn't reply. "Lucian?"

He sighed and looked down, but still he didn't dare to turn around. Daciana looked at him worriedly and tried to see his face, but he simply averted his gaze or turned around to avoid from having eye contact with her.

-"I'm sorry."- said Lucian. "I mean...I dont even know if I should even apologize or not..."

Daciana placed her hands behind her back and looked down.

-"You can talk to me about it, if you wanna"- she said concerned about him.

It saddened her that her mate was acting so distant. He had always been there for her, why couldn't she be there for him? Why didn't he let her?

-"It's okay...You don't have to know about it"- said Lucian in a low tone of voice.

-"I want to help you, Lucian. I can't stand this wall between us. We're mates. I might be able to help if you--"-

-"That's the problem, Daciana!"- Lucian cut her off and turned to face her with quite a cold look on his face.

Daciana's eyes widened slightly, for she had never seen Lucian act that way. She felt her heart stop all of the sudden and her eyes couldn't leave Lucian's. He had never talked to her like that. Lucian was about to say something else when Sorin stepped between the two of them. As usual, his vampiric brother had the best, or worse, timings ever. He looked at his brother Lucian with saddened, but sort of serious eyes as well.

-"Lucian...I think you're crossing the line."- said Sorin, who had expected his brother to come and talk to him instead.

-"As always...The hero shows up just in time"- said Sorin.

-"LUCIAN"-

-"What? I know you knew about it. You knew who that wolf was and yet you protect that girl!"-

-"LUCIAN!"- Sorin's hands were on Lucian's collar.

Lucian glanced at Daciana who stood there in pure shock.

-"Let me go, Sorin"- said Lucian coldly.

Sorin clicked his tongue and slowly let go of his brother. Lucian turned around and began walking away. Daciana was about to rush behind him, but Sorin blocked her way. Lucian looked at them over her shoulder and then walked away. Daciana didn't understand why Lucian was so mad with her. Sorin slowly turned around and looked at her with a wry smile on his face while he placed his hands on her shoulders.

-"Let's leave him alone for a while, shall we?"- said Sorin trying to calm Daciana.

-"But--"-

-"Trust me."- Sorin immediately cut her off.

His pleading and saddened eyes were focused on her. She had never seen such a look on Sorin either. Without saying a word, she nodded and decided to follow Sorin.

-"Well. Show me what you can do."- said Dacia while folding her arms across her chest.

-"Are you sure you want her to transform?"- asked Silviu who was certain that Daciana hadn't mastered that much.

-"Of course I want that! If she's allegedly the new Alpha, she has to be able to do that much"-

Silviu facepalmed. Compared to Dacia who went to training and such, Daciana had reluctantly rejected the idea of staying in the major and do some training to go off and try to live like a human. Hence, she never trained or learned how to transform or control her blackouts. Silviu looked over at Daciana who stood there in silence and lost in her thoughts.

-"Hey. I thought I told you to transform"- said Dacia.

Daciana immediately looked at Dacia startled. Then she averted her gaze and tried to figure out how to transform. Dacia sighed.

-"Close your eyes and concentrate"- said Dacia.

Daciana did as she was told and closed her eyes.

-"Take a few deep breaths slowly to calm yourself. It feels like you have a lot in your mind, so I need you to focus"-

Daciana began breathing in and out slowly.

-"Let go of your human problems and imagine the forest. Imagine yourself in the wild."-

-"Dacia, her instincts still react to danger"- whispered Silviu.

Dacia sighed again and clicked her tongue.

-"Imagine Lucian is in danger"- said Dacia.

Daciana could picture Lucian in her mind. The scene that she pictured was when Lucian was shot with a silver bullet on his shoulder. She bit her lip. Dacia knew that this just might work. After a few seconds, Daciana bends down and held her head between her hands. Dacia's eyes lit up, for she had been waiting to see her in her wolf form. All of the sudden, they noticed that she had a white wolf tail and ears. Dacia drops her shoulders and looked at Daciana with a half annoyed expression.

-"What did just happen?"-asked Dacia.

Silviu scratched his head and looked down.

-"Um...this is as much as she can manage on her own yet."- explained Silviu.

Dacia let out a long sigh.

-"I...um...I'll just go and check on that Alexander guy"- said Dacia as she turned on her heel, waved goodbye and walked away.

Silviu knew that this wasn't going well. Daciana stood next to Silviu and watched her walk away puzzled.

-"What's wrong with her?"- asked Daciana.

-"I think she had never seen a half transformation like yours before"- said Silviu.

-"I just embarrassed myself, didn't I?"-

Silviu shrugged.

Sorin was walking around the area when he sensed someone staring at him. He smiled to himself and began running. Just as he expected, the person tan off behind him. He simply turned around and held the person's neck.

-"Alright, alright. Ya got me"-said young man with copper-like hair
-"You don't look like an enemy nor Luke someone I'd know."- said Sorin. "You kind of stink like a wolf, but are not one."

The young man squinted his eyes.

-"By any chance, are you a vampire?"- he asked.

-"Well informed."- said Sorin while he let go of his neck.

-"I thought my mother was the only one who could walk around during the day"-

Sorin's eyes widened after he heard the word 'mother'.

-"Mother?"- asked Sorin.

-"Sorin!"-Daciana called out to him while running in his direction.

The other guy's eyes grew wide when he saw Daciana and her wolf ears and tail. Daciana now stood before them and went pale as soon as she saw the man. She thought she had blown off their cover.

-"You are one too...?"- said the guy.

Sorin turned to face the guy.

-"I'm Gavril, it's nice to meet another hybrid"- the young man introduced himself while extending his hand forward to shake it with Daciana.

-"I'm Daciana..."- she gently took his hand and he held it tightly and smiled broadly.
