Sorin sat on the tree branch near Daciana's room.
-"Mutation? What's all that about?"- he said almost to himself.
-"What's with all that rambling?"-said Silviu while climbing up the tree. "Stop stalking Daci"
Sorin smiled to himself. Lately, hr had found himself believing, from all the people of the werewolf clan, in Daciana and Silviu.
-"Hey Wolfy"-said Sorin. "Is it possible for mutants to exist?"
Silviu looked at him questioningly.
-"Maybe you're watching too much X-Men"- said Silviu.
-"What? No. The movies are cook and all, but I'm talking about real mutations, here."- said Silviu. "Not to the movies' extent, but falls into the category of mutant"
-"You know...We should talk somewhere else. Daci could wake up, ya know. Let's talk tomorrow"-
Silviu jumped from the tree. Sorin sighed and gave one last glance at Daciana's room and then jumped.
. . .
The next day, Alexander brought Dacia with him to show her the results. He thought he had to get all the information he could from her before saying anything to Daciana. Alexander turned his computer on and showed her various pictures of the mutated cells.
-"These are Daciana's cells. The other ones are some cells retrieved from an unknown vampire and these ones here are regular werewolf cells."- Alexander began with his explanation. "I also have some human cells as well. It's obvious that they all have animal cells since they were all eventually human. There are some things that changed. Look at this. This is the gene or factor that werewolves have. Vampires have their own as well. Compared to Daciana's..."
-"It's not looking like a werewolf's or a human's."- said Dacia under her breath. "Is that why she was called a half breed?"
-"Most likely. But the issue is not whether or not she's a half breed. She has a vampiric mutation to them"-
Dacia squinted her eyes a bit and then looked at Alexander.
-"You can't possibly mean that the girl has high chances of ever becoming a vampire..."- Dacia told him her fear. "Did she lie about the vampire bite?"
Alexander shook his head.
-"It seems like it's a genetic mutation. You passed it to your son and you're granddaughter got it from him"- said Alexander while looking away from the screen.
Dacia averted her eyes and tried to remain calm.
-"I can't say this for sure, but maybe this mutation isn't that strong..."- said Alexander. "Emil Lupu didn't come back from the dead"
-"Didn't he had more werewolf genes than vampiric ones?"- said Sorin who decided to meddle in.
Alexander quickly stood up with his eyes gleaming with excitement. He placed his hands on Sorin's shoulders and grinned.
-"You came back! How did you even know about the genes?"- said Alexander.
-"A vampire like myself has good resources"- said Sorin brushing Alexander's hands away.
-"More like you were spying on us last night, weren't you Sorin?'- said Sam while he played with an apple between his hands.
Sorin groaned and rolled his eyes. Sam smirked knowing that he was right. Dacia sighed and turned to face Sorin.
-"Why are you here, Sorin? It's broad daylight"-said Dacia.
-"Shouldn't I be asking you the same thing? After all, you're a vampire and you've been wandering under the sun too"-retorted Sorin.
Dacia closed her mouth and didn't dare to argue back. Alexander looked at them both and then smiled broadly.
-"Now that I think about it...You're an odd pair of vampires, aren't you?"-said Alexander while he scratched his chin. "Interesting. I thought the clans were odd enough already with the issue of having an alpha that descended from the previous one, but now I think it' quite interesting."
-"Me and my big mouth"- said Sorin.
Sorin sat down in a corner and folded his arms across his chest. After giving it some thought, he pulled out his little bottle and showed it to Alexander.
-"Just a little bit"-said Sorin.
Alexander looked at Sorin a bit confused.
-"What's that?"- asked Alexander intrigued.
-"Well kept blood...Dacia's werewolf days blood"-said Sorin.
Alexander ran towards him and took his own bottle and took one drop from the blood Sorin offered him. He looked at it curiously.
-"Why did you even keep this? What weird connection to you have with Dacia?"- said Alexander walking towards his tools. "I mean...You're not an ordinary vampire, either. You have Dacia's werewolf blood as well...How did you even get this?"
Sorin didn't want to answer him. Alexander simply sighed and dropped his shoulders. Dacia walked towards Sorin.
-"Do you think this is alright?"-whispered Dacia.
-"I don't want him nagging me all day"- said Sorin while standing up. "I gotta go tell Lucian that I'll be a little busy"
-"Speaking of which...Why do you care so much about that human?"-
-"Watch it Dacia. That's my little brother. He may be human, but he is the only family I have left-
With that, Sorin left.
. . .
Lucian was with Daciana at the back yard. She was reading a book next to the small table thy had there and he sat on the staircase and watched her in silence. He did liked her a lot, but sometimes he wondered what else was hidden in her family...He knew his family was a little creepy, but hers was way out of the line. As soon a she decided to leave the manor he thought they could live like any other teenage humans...but he was probably wrong. It wasn't Daciana's fault either...
-"Is it good?"- asked Lucian while resting his chin on his hand.
-"What is?"- asked Daciana while passing to the next page.
-"The book you're reading"-
-"Oh..."- she finally looked away from the book noticing that she had ignored him the whole time he had been sitting there.
Sometimes she reminded her of Silviu. He used to sit there in silence when she was younger and watch her read. Lucian walked towards her and placed a hand under her chin. Their eyes met and her cheeks went pink. It had been a while since he had been like that around her.
-"Seems like your eye color has been stable for a while"- said Lucian. "Sorin had once told me about your eye color change and I had been worried for a while thinking you might become a werewolf and go on a blackout at any moment"
Daciana's eyes grew wide opened. She slapped Lucian's hand away and casted her eyes down. Even if he had said it jokingly, for her it was something insulting. Lucian looked at her a bit shocked. Daciana bit her lower lip.
-"I'm sorry, Lucian"- she apologized while trying to hold back her tears.
She simply stood up and ran inside. Sorin was walking down the hall when Daciana bumped against his chest. She immediately looked up at h with tear filled eyes. His eyes widened a bit and then his expression softened. Lucian was about to call out to her, but stopped himself from doing so. Sorin wiped her tears with his thumbs and smiled tenderly at her.
-"Now, now little alpha. Who made you cry so early?"- said Sorin.
-"*sniff* What's that supposed to mean? I had to cry anyways?"- she retorted.
-"Silly"-
He pulled her towards him and wrapped his arms around her.
-"I know it's hard, Daciana...But you have to be strong. This experiment is for the greater good of all of us. I know you didn't want to come back to this place...Bear with it for a while, okay?"- said Sorin as he laid his head on her shoulder.
Lucian bit his lower lip and remained silent.
