{FLASHBACK}

Lucian was sitting in a corner of his room staring at the box of cigarettes he had kept inside his drawer. He had promised to stop smoking, but right now he needed to. He needed something to relax from his life's cruel reality.

-"What are you doing?"- said Vlad as he stood next to him without making a noise.

Lucian's hands shook and he dropped the box on the floor. He quickly turned around to face his father and cleared his throat.

-"Nothing...just...felt like smoking today"- Lucian answered rather nervously.

Vlad squinted his eyes but didn't pursue him any further with the smoking issue. He gestured his son to sit down. Lucian sat on the edge of the bed and averted his gaze. Vlad knew him well. Lucian had barely had any contact with normal human beings and just when he was trying to live like a normal teenager, he ended up getting involved into the Lupu mess and what's worse, he had gotten involved with the alpha of the group and had caused a rivalry between his brother and the alpha's guardian.

-"What's scaring you?"- Vlad began. "That's not like you at all. You were always a reckless human. Have always ignored my instructions and done as you pleased, so far to even help your brother slip in into Lupu territory and befriend the now disgusting alpha"

-"She's not disgusting..."- Lucian retorted.

-"If she's not, then why are you hiding here and not being with her? You just came back with the tail between your legs after realizing that you've let yourself get too deep into that wolf's den"- Vlad's tone was firm. "After she came to our castle you haven't even said a single word to her. Wasn't she your...what's the word? Lover or something?"

Lucian's face hardened. It seemed like Vlad had hit a bull's eye. Vlad's mouth curved into a half smile. He walked towards Lucian and placed his hand upon his head. The human looked up at his vampiric father without any visible emotion on his face.

-"Have you realized it, Lucian?"- said Vlad. "The path that the Oracle mentioned to you when you were younger? Has it made any sense to you?"

Lucian's hands closed into fists. He bit his lower lip and tried to maintain his composure. His father was always like that, but after so many years he had finally understood why his father was the way he was. He was always trying to make sure that he was certain of what he wanted. Lucian had grown in a world that wasn't meant for humans, even so he had given him the freedom to do as he pleased. He could either stay with them or go on and live with the humans and never mention to a single souls about their existence. But Lucian had always thought about his family as 'special'. Even if they were truly just a bunch of bloodsuckers, they had raised him and kept him safe from any harm and had always given him the opportunity to live as a human being, not a night creature.

-"I..."- Lucian started to speak but he suddenly stopped as he realized that he had never given any thought to the oracle's words.

-"When the beast gets tamed and it's blood gets stained---"-

-"Blood will be spilled and it will be you"-Lucian finished the phrase before Vlad could. "Of course I remember what the Oracle said. How would I ever forget?!"

Lucian was now staring at his father with raged eyes. Vlad remained neutral as he watched Lucian. He had finally reached his limit. Vlad had gotten to the core of Lucian's anxiety. He moved his hand away from Lucian's head and remained in silence, just watching him sink in rage and fear sitting on the edge of his bed.

-"It's good that you still remember those words...Lucian."- said Vlad as he slowly turned his back on the human.
