Trigger warning.
"Did you open a pub or summat?" Liam asked one afternoon while we we were in the kitchen. He was sorting the mail while I did the dishes.
"What?" I asked curiously as I turned from the sink to look at him.
"Well it's got your name in it." He replied as he showed me the return address on an envelope. "The Blue Room."
I put the dish towel down and came over to look at it properly. The envelope was addressed to me coming from a place called the Blue Room in Melbourne, Australia.
"I have no idea what this is." I said as I looked it over. I really didn't. I had no ties to Melbourne as far as I knew.
"Well are ya gonna open it?" Liam asked.
"Yeah. May as well see what it is. Probably just junk though."
But it wasn't.
"Dear Miss Anderson." I read out loud from the card I pulled out of the envelope.
"Can already tell it's rubbish." Liam scoffed. It really did his head in when people referred to me by my maiden name.
I rolled my eyes and then continued reading. "You are cordially invited to the Blue Room's VIP Night."
"How the fuck can ya be a VIP when ya've never even heard of the place before? Bin it, Jules. It's fuckin' rubbish."
Part of me wanted to while another part wanted to call the RSVP number just to inquire about the event.
Care to guess which part won?
"Matt Cester?" I said into the phone puzzled.
"Yes ma'am." The woman who answered replied. "All employees are allowed to bring a guest to the event and Matt's chosen you."
"Oh."
"Yes. So if you'd like to RSVP now, I can go ahead and put you down on the list. Someone will be coming to London to get your dress sorted in the next week."
And they did.
"So how do you and Matt know each other?" The stylist asked as she zipped up my dress while I stood in front of a mirror.
"We really don't." I replied. "I know his brother but-" I stopped myself when I saw Liam appear in the mirror.
His eyes were filled with annoyance but not anger. He sat down on the couch and kept his mouth shut. He just crossed his arms and leaned back to get comfortable to watch.
The dress was a royal blue cocktail dress. It came down just above my knees and had a black belt around the waist.
I played with my hair in the mirror, twisting it up and holding it at the top of my head. "What do you think?" I asked Liam after the stylist had gone to sort out shoes for me. "Should I wear it up or down?"
He rolled his eyes and looked away.
"Come on!" I pleaded. "I want your opinion."
"Why the fuck d'ya care what I think?" He asked. "You're not doin' it for me!"
I sighed. "Liam-"
