Chapter 14

Samantha POV

"Sir? Are you here for Caroline Vester?" 

"Yes, we both are. Can you tell us what happened? How is she?"

My eyes slowly opened. I was laying on top of Branden as he sat in a chair. He was talking to the doctor in front of us. He was middle-aged. His tag read "Dr. Dubrow".  He flipped through the chart in his hands.

"Well, Mrs. Vester had a bad accident earlier this evening. Eye-witnesses say that a speeding motorcyclist had crashed right into the driver's side. The motorcycle did quite the damage. Fortunately, no damage was done to her brain or spinal cord. She had 3 broken ribs on her left, badly broken her whole arm, sprained her legs, and also had large cuts on the side of her face."

"How is she?" I asked. 

Dr. Dubrow finally looked at me, then at Branden, and then back to his chart. Branden just held me. 

"Mrs. Vester is in a coma for now. Her left side was badly hurt, so we have put her in a coma to help her body cope with the pain. She shall wake up once her body's had enough rest. It shouldn't be much longer." He said.

My face distorted. 

"May we see her?" I asked looking at him.

"Room 256 on the 5th floor" The doctor said before leaving. 

"C'mon." Branden said helping me up. We walked to the elevator. I wasn't crying but I felt so bad inside. I laid my head on his chest. He rubbed my arms in comfort.

*Ding*

The doors opened.

Room 256.

Branden opened the door, letting me go inside. I looked at her bed. My heart hurt inside.

Caroline had a mask attached to her mouth. Her breathing, fogging up the plastic. An IV on her arm. Casts covered her whole leg, and arm. The side of her face was bandaged. A little blood visible in the tissues.

I walked over to her side and grasped her hand. 

"You'll heal Caroline. I know your in pain, but you will heal." I said to her. Her eyes didn't open, her hands didn't move, nor did her heart pump any faster.

I let go of her hand and sat on the chair, watching her. Branden inspected the both of us. I held my hand out, reaching for him. He grabbed it with both of his hands.

He kneeled down to me and kissed my hand. 

"Everything's going to be fine." He said rubbing my hand. I sent him a sad smile.

"Do you think she can feel the pain?" I asked, my chin quivering as my eyes watered. He shhh'ed me as hugged me. I sobbed into his shoulder.

"She doesn't deserve this Branden." I said crying.

"Nobody deserves this. The coma helps her, so she can't feel a thing." He said pulling away and looking at my eyes. 

I smiled a pained smile. 

He let go of me and left. I watched Caroline's chest rise and fall as she breathed. She looked at peace, but those bloody bandages covering her, made my mind change.

"Here." 

I turned to the door. Branden had a duffel bag filled with stuff. I looked at him in shock and relief. He kneeled to me again. 

He took off my heels and put my slippers on. 

I kissed his head. 

"Thank you" I said quietly, Tears threatening to fall. 

"I love you." I said letting my tears fall. He smiled at me and kissed me. 

"I love you too."

*BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPP*

I woke up frantically. I looked at Caroline. Her machine held a still line.

"DOCTOR! SOMEBODY HELP!!" I yelled. I shook her as I cried. 

"Please! Caroline!!"

"Move!" Dr. Dubrow came in with 4 nurses. 2 nurses started CPR. One, gave her a shot, and the other helped Dubrow move her to the ICU. I ran along with them, pleading for Caroline to come back.

"I'm sorry but you can't come in here." Another nurse said stopping me before I could walk inside. I stopped and watched in slow-motion as the doors closed. The doctors were frantically yelling at each other.

I took heavy breathes. I dropped to my knees, only for Branden to come and catch me.

"Shh. Sam it's okay! She'll be fine. Don't worry!" He cooed to me. I held his arm as I froze in place. I stayed quiet as tears fell down my face.

Branden was now leaning against the wall on the floor. I laid on his chest. We waited till someone could give us an update on Caroline.

The doors opened and closed. Doctors and nurses passed through the hallway. Nobody.

Nobody came out.

*Night time*

I stayed awake as Branden fell asleep under me. 

The doors opened once again, in the corner of my eye. I ignored it.

"Ms. Argon, Mr. Matthews?" 

I looked up in shock. Branden woke up. I frantically stood up.

"Caroline is stable for now. But, we have found a tumor in her abdomen. It caused the cardiac arrest, and also caused for her to be in a coma for a longer period of time."

I gasped in shock.

"We'll be performing the surgery once her test results come back. The tumor shouldn't be growing in that small period. We've taken care of it." He said giving a concerning side smile.

"Thank you doctor." Branden said shaking his hand.

"Please save her doctor." I said holding his hand in both of mine. I looked up at his eyes with my pained face.

"I will do everything in my power." Dr. Dubrow said rubbing my hand. He handed my a paper before leaving. I opened it.

ICU: Ward 3, Room 17

Come at exactly 8:37PM. The nurses will be out at a meeting. You'll have an hour
