Niall's P.O.V

I was gutted to hear about the mix up of the blood samples. I mean, what did Zara do to deserve everything that was happening to her? She was in a coma and there was nothing that anybody could do to help her. However, I felt really guilty knowing that I couldn't help her.

Every day since we heard the news, we'd visit Zara every single day and talk to her, even though we received no response. So far, a few months had already passed. I felt really sorry for Zayn as he couldn't even get to know her properly, however, to all of us, Zara was like the younger sister that we never had. We went back to work and we were working on a new song which we were influenced to write because of Zara. We wanted to help people who self harmed and we wanted everyone to realise that they were beautiful in their own little ways. It was called 'Little Things'.

The morning of the fourth month and second week was our birthday. The birthday that we could have shared. I quickly got dressed and slumped down the stairs, to be greeted by Harry who was making my favourite breakfast. Liam, Louis and Zayn were already sitting down.

"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you. Happy birthday dear Niall, happy birthday to you!" Harry brought a candle lit cake and placed it on the table. I sat down in front of the table and gratefully cut slices for everyone.

"Thanks," I said, smiling, "What time are we going to leave?"

"After we eat. Here, Niall," Liam started, handing me a wrapped box. He had gotten me a Nando's gift card worth a hundred pounds. Zayn got me a polo shirt, Louis got me a pair of shoes and Harry got me a blazer. I thanked them in turn.

"Have you guys got the present for Zara?" I asked. They all nodded before we continued eating. After that, we started our journey to the hospital.

Harry's P.O.V

I chose the present for Zara by using memories that we shared, even though she may never be able to wear them. It was a pair of white Converse. I picked it out carefully, remembering the time when we had the conversation about Converse and Vans. What Zayn got for Zara was quite sweet as well; he got her a blue Superdry coat because he remembered how thin her current jacket was.

Niall got her a pair of white Beats by Dr Dre because he found out that Zara loved listening to music. Liam got Zara a brown Jack Wills backpack because he realised that Zara would need a new one to start school. And, finally, Louis bought Zara a white Ice watch, as she needed a watch. To be honest, all of the gifts were bought with the intention of helping her, so they were all thoughtful.

We exited the car and made the familiar route to Zara's hospital room. I just hoped that she would wake up some time soon, but I was still grateful that she was alive. We entered the building and swiftly managed to find the hospital room.

"You can take as much time as you like," a nurse informed us. We entered the room and Louis was the first one to speak.

"Zara, I love you as if you were my own sister, so please, make it through this, yeah?" He let go of her hand and continued, "I got you a white watch. You do like Ice watches, right? I hope it comes to good use." Louis got up and stood in the corner of the room, wiping a few tears away.

Liam crouched down beside Zara's hospital bed and started, "Hi, Zara. It's your birthday today and I hope it's as happy as the saying. I got you a brown backpack to start the academic year and hopefully, you'll be able to use it." Zara's breathing stayed the same, even pace.

Niall was next. He kneeled next to Zara and held onto her hand with both of his. Tears were flowing down his cheeks but he made no effort to wipe them.

"Zara, I got you a pair of headphones for your birthday. The only birthday present I'd like back from you, would be seeing you with us, back at home. Please Zara..." Niall trailed off, crying before he could say anything else. Liam engulfed him into a hug when he walked up to him, and he sobbed into his shoulders.

It was my turn now. I slowly approached her the same way everybody else did and crouched next to her.

"Zara. I know you can pull through this soon enough so you can wear the pair of Converse that I got you. You're strong and you've been through a lot, so don't let a measly, old coma get the better of you, OK?" I placed the wrapped shoe box on the pile of all of her other presents. I stood by Liam, Louis and Niall, tears dripping down my face.

Finally, it was Zayn's go. He was crying before he even spoke to her and he did the same as all of us.

"Zara, don't go! Don't leave me! Please! I want to get to know you better and I want you to meet your family." He wiped some tears away and tried to calm himself down before continuing, "Guess what I found out? Why you were adopted. I guess I should tell you. You were switched at birth and your foster parents took a DNA test, because they thought that you looked different to them and yeah, that's how they found out. I'm so glad that they took that DNA test and you lived with us. Please, come back and continue to live with us."

Zayn's P.O.V

After I told Zara about why she was adopted, I held onto her hand a bit tighter. As every steady beep went by, I was grateful that Zara wasn't taken from us. Someone patted my shoulder so I turned my head around.

"Come on, Zayn, let's go," Liam said. I nodded reluctantly, but, as I did so, something didn't seem right.

I quickly spun my head back around and heard the beeps going quicker and quicker. Zara's face slowly turning purple. Her hand lying limply in mine. Her eyes losing their sparkle and turning dull. Her weak smile slowly turning straight. Her body turning weak. Her breathing going slower and slower.

The beep going in one high pitched drone.

"Zara!" I exclaimed, once I saw the moniter that explained that Zara was dead. I stood up and sat on her bed, lifting her into my arms. I stroked her hair back and my eyes flickered all over her body, looking for any signs of consciousness. I hugged her tightly and placed her head into the crook of my neck. I had to keep my hand on the back of her head to keep it from dropping.

As I slowly stroked her hair, I muttered, "Don't leave me Zara. Come on, come out of that coma."

Doctors rushed into the room and Liam tried to get me out of the hospital room. The doctors took Zara out of my hands and placed her back onto the bed. They crowded around her and rushed around in the small room.

"ZARA!" I yelled, my bottled emotions eventually showing, "Don't leave me!" Liam was assisted by Harry into pulling me out of the room. I tried numerous times to open the door but I was pulled back every time. I peered into the window of the door, tears pouring down like a never ending waterfall. I heard the sobs of Louis, Liam, Niall and Harry in the background. I saw as they tried to shock her back into consciousness, praying that she'd come back to us. Every time, the electric shocks failed.

I fell onto the floor, in a sitting position, and pushed myself all the way back, until I reached the wall. I shook my head, the tears not stopping. I tried not to believe what I had just witnessed.

"Zara's gone. Zara's gone. Zara's gone," I repeated over and over again, until the information sunk into my mind. Nobody could comfort me. Nobody could tell me that everything would be alright. Nobody could make me happier. Nobody apart from Zara.
