Justin.

It was a normal Saturday afternoon, or so I think it was.

I was trudging down the stairs when I saw a sight I don't usually see. Mum is talking to a woman, like her age I guess with a girl, who I think is my age too. It's such a coincidence. I was halfway down when I heard mum speak.

"So what brings you here in Stratford?" I heard mum ask the woman. They just got here? Where are they staying? That explains why they look very unfamiliar.

"Oh, you know. New life, something like that. We're from Omaha, Nebraska. It's such a long distance, right? And you would think to yourself why would you move to a remote place, where you don't know anyone? That's the beauty of it. We like to meet as many new people as possible to start anew." The woman smiled at my mum. I was about to go back to my room because I was clearly eavesdropping, my mum stopped me when she called my name. Oh great, so much for being sneaky.

I followed with what mum told me and was shocked with what I saw.

"Justin, this is Ashley. They live next door to us. You'd be great friends, I swear." I just stared at her for a while, amazed at her beauty. She smiled at me and I beamed back, blushing hard.

Okay, what am I thinking? I just saw her and I blushed hard? You can't blame me, she's really pretty. She looks like one of those princesses we see in movies on our English class.

Snapping out of my thoughts, I introduced myself to her. Or at least I tried, without losing my composure.

"Hi, I'm Justin. of course, you know because mum mentioned it. Uh, do you want to play?" I told her. She just nodded and followed me. I could see our mothers smiling at us. I swear, in a minute now, they'll be planning our wedding. Typical mothers.

"What do you want to play?" Ashley asked. I looked suprised. This is the first time she talked to me. I made eye contact with her to make sure this isn't a dream.

I have said this moments ago but she's so pretty. Her dark brown eyes compliments her fair skin and chestnut colored hair. She's shorter than me but it doesn't matter. She's seems really shy.

It's like the one in fairytales where you meet a normal girl but she turns out to be a princess except for the princess part, or so I don't know. But she looks like a princess, really.

"Uh, do you want to play hide and seek?" She nodded happily. Never knew, a simple game of hide and seek could make her that happy but then again, I just met her. Who knows what things could make her happy too.

We went on playing hide and seek for about an hour or so. She was so happy and I smiled because I figured I was the reason why she was happy. She looks lovely when she smiles.

Eventually, we grew tired. We were now sat at the front porch of the house as she said something I didn't expect.

"Justin, can you promise me one thing?" She asked me. I looked at her and smiled. But on the inside, I was really nervous. It's not everyday you meet someone this pretty as asks you to promise her one thing.

"Sure, what is it?" I asked back. She looked hesitant to ask. She was probably thinking if she should ask me or not. She probably doubts me.

"Can we be best friends forever?" She looked up to me and smiled the biggest smile I have seen. Seeing that smile made her prettier.

"I promise." And we did the pinky promise thing.

And that's how we became best friends.

It was the happiest day of my life.
