I asked my parents permission if I could spend the night at my grandma's house. Surprisingly they said yes, that's probably just the alcohol speaking for them. Luckily I thought ahead of time and packed up some clothes because I knew they were going to end up saying yes. They had a great time at the family get together, but they also had a bit too much to drink. Good thing my uncle is taking them home, I don't trust either of them driving tonight especially since my two younger sisters are going to be inside the car too. I'm just glad everyone had a great time tonight, I actually forgot my phone for the whole night and just left it in the guest room.
As I say goodbye to all of my aunts and uncles, my little cousin Danny comes down the stairs with my phone in his hand.
"Hey your phone keeps vibrating, so I thought I should give it to you." He says.
"Thanks Danny." I say politely as I receive my phone from him. Jack spammed my phone. Jack. Oh my God, I totally forgot to FaceTime him back. I totally forgot about him. Crap.
Gilinsky: hey babe, I just landed.
Gilinsky: I just got out of practice babe
Gilinsky: Okay I know you might be busy with family right now, but it would be great to hear from you.
Gilinsky: Answers my calls.
Gilinsky: Babe :(
Gilinsky: fuck okay, I'll wait.
Gilinsky: goodnight.
I can't believe I forgot about Jack. I never forget about him. I was just so caught up with my family thing, and the Shawn thing. I have to text him back right now.
Me: Hey babe!!!! I'm so sorry I didn't reply to ur messages earlier! I got caught up with some Shawn drama earlier and you know that tonight was the night of the family get together. I left my phone in one of the rooms here, and I just forgot. I forgot all about it. I'm so sorry. I hope your trip started out great.
I can't believe I forgot Jack. I never forget, especially when it comes to Jack. I've just been so busy with family, and all. I haven't been thinking straight lately, I was out of it half of the day. I was over here worrying about Shawn, even though he was just acting like the jerk he can be sometimes.
I hope Jack doesn't take it personally, he knows I've been busy. Especially since Tuesday. He'll get over it, he won't hold a grudge. If anyone holds a grudge in our relationship, it's me.
I start setting up my air mattress in my grandma's living room. Once I'm done setting up, I head to the restroom and change in to my pjs. Omar and Izzy finally stop playing video games and start setting their air mattresses in the living room as well.
"Where are the girls?" I ask Omar.
"They're upstairs changing, they'll be down in a minute." He says.
Patty and Nayzeth come downstairs with the pillows and blankets to set on the air mattress. We're all sharing a king sized one, so being overlapped by one another shouldn't be a problem. We set up our bed, and head on in.
We lay there. I'm on the right side, Patty is in the middle, and Nayzeth is on the left side.
I look up and see if the boys are asleep, yup they're dead asleep. I look around and see how roomy the living room actually is. There's 5 of us here, and we're all pretty comfortable. Not bad.
I lay back down and just look at the ceiling. I notice the girls are still awake. They're looking up at the ceiling too, we just kind of lay there. We're just looking up, not saying anything to each other. There's no words needed in these kind of silences. They aren't awkward. They're actually needed. It kind of makes us realize that we're here, in this moment. This moment right now, we're living in it. We're with each other right now, when we normally aren't. We're feet, even inches away from each other when we're normally thousands of miles apart. These are the kind of silences I live for. The silences of realization.
"Hey guys." I whisper, still looking at the ceiling.
"Yeah?" They say.
"You know I love you guys and um-" Nayzeth cuts me off.
"Don't worry Amy, we know. You don't have to say anything weird and sappy about it." She says. I just nod at her response. This is why I don't really speak when it comes to these kind of silences, this is why none of us ever speak in silences. We never need to explain it. We know.*******************************************
I'm awoken by the sound of a familiar ring tone. Who's phone is that? I get up and try to see where it's coming from. I look up on to the kitchen counter and realize it's my phone. What time is it? I check my ringing phone for the time, it's about 4 in the morning, I think. My eyes start scanning the contact that's calling me, who would be calling me this late? I'm so tired, why couldn't they wait until tomorrow morning at least. I read the name slowly and realize who it is. Seriously now he wants to talk to me? No fuck you. I wanted to talk to you earlier, but you seemed to busy for me. So I guess the only time he isn't busy is at 4 in the morning? Interesting.
I decline the call and head back to bed. The phone keeps ringing throughout the night, but I eventually got up and put it on silent. Not tonight, Shawn.
