Amelia's POV
I honestly don't know what to wear, it's just Shawn so I obviously don't have to dress to impress. It's going to be a bit chilly tonight, and it's always cold inside movie theaters. So I guess maybe a thin sweatshirt? Yeah, that'll do. I'll just wear this gray one that says Oregon State in yellow lettering. My parents didn't even attend Oregon state, I just bought this from a nearby thrift shop. After all, it only cost me about $4, so I'd say that I am satisfied with my purchase.
I change in to my dark wash jeans and slip on some classic black vans, along with my sweatshirt. I brush my hair out and arrange it in the way I always do. My hair isn't very long, but it's not necessarily short either. It's a bit past my shoulders, but I feel like it's at a suitable length, so I'm thinking about letting it grow out. My bangs are definitely grown out, sometimes they tend to get in my face, but I always run my fingers through my hair, which eventually pushes my bangs back. Most people find it annoying how many times I run my fingers through my hair, but I don't think it's a bad habit. It's just a habit.
I check my phone and see if Shawn has sent me a text. Nope. Well I guess that gives me more time to prep up. I turn on some music and start heading to the restroom. I decide to brush my teeth. I already brushed them this morning, but I mean why not again? It wouldn't kill me to do that. And plus I wouldn't want Shawn thinking I had bad breath or anything. This our first time actually hanging out, I want to give a good impression.
I start brushing, while I'm brushing I'm just humming along to the songs that have come up on shuffle. I am currently listening to the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It's never a bad time to turn their music on. They somehow always have a song to set every mood you're in, and that's probably one of the main reasons why they'll always be my favorite band. Nobody could top them. I'm glad that there isn't a band out there trying to make music similar to theirs. They've created this sound that came from classic rock meeting funk and punk, meeting a slight mixture of rap, with a hint of pop. Yes, they seem like a bunch of unlikely combinations, but those genres all end up making this unique sound that will just play in the back of your head all day. You won't be able to get it out of your head, until you finally look up the song. My thoughts are interrupted by my phone ringing. I spit out the tooth paste and rinse out my mouth. Once I'm done, I run back in to my room and grab my phone. It's Shawn. I accept the call and hold the device up to my ear.
"Are you ready?" He asks.
"Yeah." I look around my room. "Yeah I think I am." I add on.
"Alright, I'll pull up on to your driveway in about 10 minutes, be out." He says.
"Alright, I wil-" I'm cut off by him hanging up. Okay, guess he's in a hurry.
I disconnect my phone from it's charger, and then check my outfit out in the mirror one last time. It looks casual right? I look fine. Not bummy, but not necessarily all dressed up. I'm fine.
I start heading downstairs and see my parents my channel surfing while they're sitting on the couch. My mom notices me come down and asks "I'm guessing Shawn is here?" She asks.
"Yeah, he's about to be. We're just going to catch a quick movie since we've got nothing else to do tonight."
"You could stay here and clean around the house since you have nothing else to do." She says. I'm actually not surprised that she said that, every time I mention that I'm bored or something she always has to bring up cleaning around the house. I clean, I just don't do it as often, but I'm clean. And so is my room.
"Okay mom, maybe next time. I'm going to start heading out. So I'll see you guys later."
"Bye, be careful." My mom says.
"We don't want you here no later than midnight." My dad adds on.
"I'll be here." I smile. I walk to the front door and wave to my parents as I shut it.
I sit down on my door steps and wait for Shawn.
I check my phone to see if he texted, but he hasn't.
So I just sit here and kindly wait. I watch cars pass by, hoping one of them is Shawn.
About 7 cars later, Shawn drives in in his mom's red Corolla once again. He looks up and signals me to get in.
I walk to the car and enter it. I put on my seatbelt and then look up at Shawn. He's already looking at me with that wicked grin on his face.
"What?" I say. "Do I have something on my face? Is my hair messed up?" I ask him. His smile just fades away and he then furrows his eyebrows and looks away. "Nah, I was just thinking about something funny." He says as he starts up the engine. I notice that he's wearing a unbuttoned red with white flannel, a plain white T-shirt underneath, black skinny jeans, and some dark colored vans. His hair seems a bit undone, but it looks good when it's messy.
We fill the void of car silence with small talk, and just talk about what movie we both want to see.
We both agreed on Guardians of the Galaxy, and I think we're both happy with our choice.
We arrive at the plaza where the theaters are at, but we park first.
We are currently scanning the parking lot for any available parking spaces.
"We're going to miss the movie at this rate." I complain.
"Give me some more time. I'll find a spot."
"Yeah because you obviously have eagle vision."
"Stop it, Amy. I'll find a spot, just be quiet." He says in a serious. Well fine then.
10 agonizing minutes later, we finally park. We step out of the parked car and start walking towards the plaza.
"I can't wait to see this movie. I'm mainly here to see Gru." He says in excitement.
"Who's Gru?" I ask him as we side by side.
"He's the tree guy. Well he's more tree than guy, but you know what I mean."
"What makes him so cool?" I ask.
"He barely says a word throughout the whole movie, but he's probably the funniest character. Also, he's pretty badass."
"Sounds like you've already watched the movie." I joke.
"Well...." He says in a shy voice.
"You're going to pay to see a movie you've already watched?" I question him.
"I want to have the very cool, very chill theater experience." He laughs.
"If you didn't watch it in theaters, where did you watch it?"
"This random website that shows movies months before they're released on to dvd." He says.
"So you watched it illegally?" I say with a laugh.
"Technically, yes. But if it were so illegal, they should've taken down the website years ago."
"You've been watching movies illegally for years now?!" I ask.
"Enough about me, yeah?" He suggests.
"So have you heard about this movie before? You know, before I told you that I watched it illegally." He jokes.
"No, I've never heard about this movie. So I have no idea what to expect."
"You've never heard about this movie?! Where have you been? It's only one of the best movies ever. Also one of the best comics."
"You're in to comics?" I say as I raise my left eyebrow. Before I know it, I realize that we're right in front of the theater. Well that was fast.
I have to get my wallet out of Shawn's back pocket since I didn't bring a purse or anything.
"Aye, watch your hands." He says while I slide my hand in to his back pocket.
"Don't flatter yourself, I need my wallet."
"You could've just said that instead of sliding your hand down my ass."
"You'd be honored to have my hand down your ass, so watch yourself." I laugh.
"Well I guess you're going to have to slide your wallet back in my ass then because I already have our tickets printed out." He says while pulling out 2 folded up pieces of paper.
"Wait...what? You already bought them?" I ask.
"Yeah they're cheaper online, so I bought them last night." Oh? So he was already planning to ask me out. I mean not necessarily asking me out on a date, just like asking me to hang out. I know we're not on a date. We're just two friends hanging out, and just trying to catch a good movie.
"Well I can pay you back right now."
"No it's fine, it's on me. It's alright." He replies.
"Come on, Shawn. You already paid for my meal back at ihop. It's the least I can do." I insist.
"Nah, it's fine. How about you pay for our popcorn and drinks? I mean, you're offering to pay for something." Our. That word gave me this...I don't know. That word just satisfied me. I don't really know why, it just did.
"Amy? Is that cool with you?" My thoughts are suddenly interrupted by Shawn's voice.
"Y-yeah. It's cool." I nod.
We walk up to the window where the worker is waiting for us to purchase our tickets.
"Hey, welcome to Cinemark cinemas."
"Hey, I have two tickets for Guardians of the Galaxy at 8:30." Shawn says as he slides the tickets under the window.
"You two are attending the IMAX showing, correct?" The male worker asks. IMAX? Now that's too much money being spent. Especially since I'm responsible for half of that money.
"I can't let you pay all that." I whisper to Shawn. He tilts his head and meets my gaze.
"Seriously, it's fine. My treat." He whispers back and then gives me a soft smirk. His smirk somehow eased me. God, I don't know how it did. It just did.
"Fine." I say as he receives our tickets.
We walk inside and go straight to the food court.
"Dive in. It's going to be on me." I say as he's blankly staring at the food.
"I won't be too hard on you." He laughs. "I just have the appetite of 3 fully grown apes." He continues on. I look at him and just laugh at his remarks.
