Shawn's POV
"Are you hungry yet or?" I ask her while she sits upright on her couch. She slowly takes her water bottle and continues drinking it. Once she finishes taking her sip, she checks her phone.
"It's 1:53 in the morning, and I have no absolute food in my house. And I highly doubt that there's any kind of restaurants or fast food places that are open right now." She says.
I sit down on the other empty couch.
"I don't believe that. There's got to be something." I say as I pull my phone out to look up some 24 hour restaurants. There's got to be something, she needs to eat. She can't have all that alcohol in her system without any kind of actual food inside of her system.
I browse through safari and finally find something that's open.
"You up for some breakfast?" I look over my phone and on to her. She smiles and nods.
"Well it technically is morning, so breakfast would be appropriate to eat during this hour." She says lightly with a grin. Man, I haven't seen her smile all night. She's definitely herself right now, I should enjoy it before something comes along and ruins it.
I get up and grab my keys from her counter, "Let's gooooo!!!" I say with excitement. She just laughs and follows me out the door.
I start unlocking my door and step inside. I close my door and start the engine.
I'm a little bit thrown off by a sudden banging on my window. I turn to my right and look out the passenger's seat window. I see Amelia looking in and waiting for me to unlock the door. I laugh at her while she rolls her eyes at me.
I roll down her window and start laughing even harder.
"Oh you thought you were coming?" I laugh.
"Open the door." She growls. She's trying so hard not to laugh, I know it.
"Stay home and rest up darling. This big boy here has to eat." I say. She tries to give me these wannabe puppy dog eyes, but it's not working. "Try working on that puppy dog face, right now you look like an awkward pug, but pugs are chill. So I guess I'll let you in." I unlock her door and once she starts unlocking it I reverse a little bit. I look up at her and she doesn't look amused. "You have to admit that was funny." I say while she finally gets inside the car. She just looks at me with the most blank facial expression and flicks me off.
I burst out in laughter and just start driving to the nearest ihop.
Amelia's POV
My night really took a turn ever since Shawn showed up. I'm so glad he answered my stupid drunk calls and came. I really do appreciate it. I needed this. I needed someone tonight and I'm glad he was that one person that made everything better. I'm grateful for him.
"How about we put some music, yeah?" I say as I reach for the radio. "Wait do you have an aux cord?" I ask him.
"Yeah, it should be in that drawer right in front of you." He says while his eyes remain on the road. I skim through the drawer and find the white cord. I connect it to my phone and start browsing through my music.
"Please don't put some weird boy group that girls have weird obsessions for. I have already heard enough from all of my female cousins." He says.
"Yeah I like this group, and they're all male. Well they're men not boys."
"What the fuck? Who are they then?" He asks.
"You'll see." I say with a smile, while he groans. I choose a song and let the intro play.
"This is their most popular song. I'm sure you've heard it." We stay silent and listen to the song.
About 30 seconds pass and Shawn finally blurts something out.
"Under the Bridge by the Red Hot Chili Peppers! They're dope."
"So I see that you're familiar with their music."
"Yeah I listen to them quite often. Their music never gets old, I like that." He responds.
"Sing along with me then." I say.
"I don't sing." He replies.
"Fine, I guess I'll be the only one in this car that actually wants to have some fun." I say.
"Okay, sing then."
"Well I'm not going to sing anymore because I feel like you're going to judge me." I mumble.
"Amy, you calmed me when you were intoxicated, you cried for an hour, you told me about the whole Jack thing, and now we're going out for breakfast at 2 in the morning. Trust me, I'm not judging you."
"I mean what else do I have to lose?" I reply.
"Exactly."
We arrive at ihop moments later. I didn't really sing the car ride here, I just hummed the chorus of each song. I felt pretty self conscious about my singing.
We enter inside the ihop and walk up to the counter lady or whatever.
"Table for 2 please?" He asks.
She picks up 2 menus and does this hand motion in order for us to follow her to our table.
We're seated in a booth in this empty ihop. "Good morning, I'm Ashley. I'll be waitress for tonight. Would you guys like to start out with the drinks?" The blonde and tall waitress asks us while she gets her notepad out.
"I'd like a hot chocolate please." I say.
"I'd like a cup of coffee please." He says.
"Okay sounds good. I'll be back with your drinks."
The waitress leaves as we both look down on to our menus.
"Are you getting pancakes or something?" Shawn asks me.
"I don't like pancakes, I think I'll get waffles instead."
"It's the same thing."
"No it's not."
"Yeah it is."
"Trust me, it isn't. If pancakes were like waffles, I'd be craving them right now, but I'm not. I'm craving waffles."
"Suit yourself, I'm getting some pancakes."
The waitress comes back with our drinks and takes both of our orders. We both wait momentarily for our orders and just talked amongst ourselves.
Our food comes and we start eating. While we were feasting on our meals I noticed that Shawn and I haven't spoken since our food got here. I'm sure it'd be awkward for most people to go out with a friend and not say a word to each other while they eat, but this isn't awkward at all. I always felt obligated to talk to Jack when we were eating out. I mean I get speaking to each other before the food comes, but I got tired of making conversation with him when the food has already arrived. It doesn't feel like that right now. Shawn is just minding his own business and is feasting on his pancakes while I'm feasting on my waffles. He shared a couple of glances at each other, but it wasn't weird. The silence was actually nice for once. I like this.
Once we finish eating, I decide to say something.
"Thanks for tonight, Shawn. I was in a really bad place just a few hours ago, and I'm just glad you showed up when I was leaving you stupid calls and voicemails. I'm just glad you came and helped me out a little bit. I don't really know what else to say, but thank you. I really do appreciate it." He nods his head and gives me a smile.
"I'm always going to be here for you Amy, even when you're completely out of it." He chuckles.
"Let's get out of here?" He asks.
"Wait let me pay my half of the bill."
"Don't worry, I already paid."
"Yeah, but I need to pay my half."
"I just said that I paid for the bill, your half included." He reassures me.
"But did you remember to ti-" I'm cut off by him.
"Yes I did remember to tip them. Now let's get you home, you have your sleepy eyes on." He says.
"Uh okay. I'm feeling a bit sleepy anyways. We walk out the door and head to the car.
I didn't really say anything to Shawn the whole way home, I was too sleepy to. I just leaned my head against the window and closed my eyes. It's been a long 24 hours, I'm in need of rest. I slowly doze off as Shawn drives me back home.
I am awoken by a few taps on my shoulder.
"Amy, we're home. I mean you're home. We're outside of your house." Shawn whispers.
I slowly unbuckle my seat belt and finally open my eyes a little bit.
"Thanks for everything. For the meal, for the comfort, for being here for me tonight." I say to him before I start opening my door.
"No problem, Amy. Goodnight to you too." He smirks at me. I can tell he's tired too. I close the car door behind me and wave bye to him.
I head inside my house, brush my teeth, and bury myself in to my bed. This break up has been cruel to me, but I think I handled tonight pretty well. Well Shawn basically took care of me the whole night, but it could've still turned out worse.
It still hurts, but it'll go away. I'm going to be okay.
