Chapter 4
*Alyssa's POV*
I gave Tooth my teeth, and she could tell something was wrong. "What is it?" She asked.
"Jack." I responded, running out.
Meg. I had always wanted a sister, and I did. I could've been trying to find her, or her descendants. Maybe her great-great-granddaughter believed in the Guardians still, maybe I could have some connection with my own family.
Jack had stopped me though. He had my memories this whole time! Why had he kept them from me?
I flew down to Pitch's hideout and put out my hands, palms toward Pitch, freezing him before he had the chance to say a word. I could only do that when I was stinking mad, so Jack's eyes got wide. I flew up to him.
"Why?" I asked. He opened his mouth, but I stopped him. "You know what, I don't care what you have to say. You lied to me!"
"I didn't lie to you." He said, fear in his eyes.
"Yes, you did! You told me you didn't know where my teeth were! You said you'd help me find them!"
"Listen, Aly, I didn't want--"
"Liar! Why would you care if I remembered or not? What advantage did that give you against me?"
"It wasn't. I just knew you'd want to find out more about our sister--"
"And that gave you the right to do that it me?"
"I looked. For years, but there's nothing. I can't find her. I don't know her name, or our last name, so there's no way for me to find her. I tried my hardest, Alyssa, but I didn't want you to be upset when you couldn't find our sister either."
"Meg."
"What?"
"That's her name. Meg. And guess what? I know our last name too. Don't tell me what's for my own good and what isn't. I know better for myself than you."
My heart was beating quickly in my chest as I remembered our last name.
"I'm sorry, okay?" I cut him off as he was about to say something else.
"Not good enough." And I left. He didn't deserve my help out of there. I didn't forget to defrost Pitch though.
As I flew out, I thought I heard him yell something that sounded like, "I didn't want to lose you too!"
I kept on, not caring what he meant by that.
So, what was our last name? You saw my memories with me, and you didn't hear one. But I saw the name, engraved on a rock by the front door. The name shouldn't shock you, because we hadn't moved--and probably still haven't--because we were one of the founding families of Burgess. We live by the very same lake still, or near to anyway. Have you guessed it yet? Our family name was Bennett.
I flew to Burgess and found the Bennett's quickly. Jamie's great-grandchildren were of believing age, right? Would they see me? I flew into the house and saw the little kids running around, and Jamie's son himself seated in the living room. Had Jack told Jamie about me for him to tell others? I was about to find out.
I stood in front of him, where he was having a conversation with his wife. "Mr. Bennett?" I asked cautiously. When he didn't respond, I tapped his glass of water, it froze through. That got his attention.
He looked around. "Jack, you in here again, boy?"
I bit my lip and frowned. But then an idea hit me. I defrosted the water and spilled some of it out onto the table. That caught everyone's attention. I froze my name into it, so they could see it.
