Chapter 9
*Jack's POV*
"So, you warned her."
"I didn't have a choice. If you're going to force me to help you, the least I could do would be to help her."
"Family moments are touching."
I grit my teeth, not saying anything. It wouldn't help my situation at all and he may force me to do his dirty work for him.
"What do you want me for?"
"You are the weakest spirit I could find. It was very interesting to discover that your sister is an Oracle. I can't believe you tried to hide that fact from me."
"I was protecting her."
"Why? She can protect herself more than you ever could."
"That's why I have to do the little I can."
Pitch walked in front of me and looked me in the eyes. "Now that you've warned her, it's time I pay her a visit. You are not allowed to send any signals whatsoever, Frost."
"Fine." He smiled and slipped off, taking me with him.
*Alyssa's POV*
I walked into the vision room, just a few days after Jack and I went to Spain. Intent on replaying a vision I had, I also didn't expect anyone to be in there.
I was silent as I walked up behind Moser and gently laid my hand on his shoulder. He jumped back in shock. With a small laugh, I asked if he was nearly done.
"Uh, yeah." He looked so nervous, it was almost funny. Why would he be nervous? I questioned him on that and his cheeks flushed. "N--nothing." He ran out and I looked down in the bowl.
It hadn't disappeared yet. He and I were walking, hand in hand, through the garden in the back. He said something I couldn't quite catch, and it seemed like I repeated the words. Then it vanished.
I smiled. Whatever that was, I enjoyed watching it.
I felt a presence come near and flew out to Tracy, who was in the middle of working on her flower garden. "Someone's coming!"
She stood, her hair flustered by the wind. As she fought it out of her face, she said, "You're right. They aren't mortal either. Find Moser and bring him to the main room."
He was in the kitchen, probably just wandering. "Moser, Tracy says someone not human is nearby. She wants us in the main hall."
He nodded absently and we walked side by side there. I was itching to hold his hand, but stopped myself by crossing my arms. "Cold?" He joked.
I rolled my eyes. "No." He laughed, making me blush, but just then we walked into the hall where Tracy was. Her eyes were wide and unmoving as she stared at the door.
"Pitch Black." She said.
I flew to the window; there was no snow falling or on the ground. Jack must not know about this, otherwise he would've sent a warning snow. How is that different from a normal snow? Well, in a warning snow, it leaves a ten foot perimeter around me or the building I'm in without snow. A way of saying put yourself in a protective bubble.
But there was nothing. None of the Guardians knew he was here, so we were going to get no help.
I turned around and they were both looking at me. "What?"
"You would know the most about Pitch, about how to fight him. What do we do?"
I sighed and started thinking. Suddenly I groaned. Crap. "I'm scared to death of his Nightmares, I'm going to be no help at all when the time comes. Sorry."
"What do you know?"
"He's a sick, psychopathic guy that lives off of fear and darkness. He won't let anything stop him to get what he wants."
"Right you are." He said behind me. "About the second part at least."
"Why me?" I whined upward. "He makes me want to bang my head against a pole. Why did it have to be me?"
"You're already irritating me."
"Then leave. Gosh knows what sick things you can fill your time doing."
"Unfortunately, I can't. Not until I relay my message."
"Please do so, so that we can all have a peaceful day."
"Jack works for me now." I burst out laughing. I fell over and tears streamed down my cheeks. Jack? My brother? Work for him?
"Th-that is-is the m-most hilar-arious th-thing I've ev-ever h-heard!"
"It's not a joke, and I'm not lying."
My brother, Jack Frost, walked out from behind Pitch, a determined look on his face, like it was a stage performance he had to play. That had to be it, right? He would never go work willingly for Pitch.
I stood, my laughing have died suddenly, and looked at him. He looked just as before, but his eyes were a sick yellow color, like a dim gold, and his hair was black. Seeing him like that so suddenly made me scared of him.
A gasp escaped my lips and I took a step back. "Jack?" I breathed. It couldn't be him, it just couldn't. "Why?"
"Because he finally realized what true power is. There is nothing better together than cold and dark, he just tried to ignore it."
For an Oracle, I wasn't very good. Because I did not see this one coming.
*Jack's POV*
I tried pleading with her not to believe it, not to let Pitch tell her lies, but how could she see that? I looked like him, was with him, hadn't warned her of all things! I knew, and I couldn't warn her! That fact was going to hit her hard.
Aly looked disbelieving, and for once I wished I was invisible again. I wished everything had stayed the same as two hundred years ago, when we would just play around and have fun. Nothing bad happened to us.
I had mixed feelings about Moser at that point, as he comforted Aly. She was crying almost. I didn't like him watching her, but at least I knew that she would be taken care of here. He had his arm around her and I nodded the smallest bit to him. He nodded, understanding what I meant.
Pitch started walking, and I knew that I was meant to follow, so I did. I didn't say a word to her, and it hurt. I wasn't cold-hearted, he knew he couldn't control me that way because I was one of the strongest spirits he could possibly find. But I didn't want to hurt her anymore.
He told me that if I didn't help him, he would hurt her. I had to do it then, even if it meant hurting Aly a little. I'd rather hurt her than have him hurt her.
