Chapter 17

*Alyssa's POV*

Ice was sticking straight out of Manny's chest. I gasped and began apologizing profusely, making it disappear. All thoughts of the battle escaped my mind.

He laughed a bit. "I'm fine. Nothing can hurt me, remember? But you must also know that I am aware of the outcome of the battle. I know what will happen if you run in right now. It is best if you wait for them to weaken him before you jump in."

"You're sure?"

"Positive."

I nodded. "Alright. I'll trust you. But if I find out it was better for me to have been there earlier-"

"You won't."

"Okay."

*Jack's POV*

Nightmares came at me from left and right and I tried to keep them at bay. Everyone was trying their hardest, North slashing through them, Sandy whipping them, but more just kept coming. "Tracy!" I heard someone shout.

Looking over, I saw the spirit of summer laying in a pile of snow. I abandoned my fight and got over to her and Moser as quickly as I could. "Get her out of the snow and keep her warm. I'll keep them off of both of you."

I may not like her, but I didn't want her to die. Spirit of summer + laying in snow for any length of time = not good.

Now, since I was protecting two people, three times the amount of Nightmares were coming for me. I saw Tooth in the air fighting her heart out with...were those...ninja stars? A Nightmare came at her from behind and knocked her out. Everywhere, spirits were trying to survive. I bet some of them wished they'd left when they had the chance.

"David!" I shouted. He glanced at me to show that he heard me. "Can't you do something?"

"Not to him!"

I groaned.

Pitch surrounded us and pushed us backward, to where we were all standing back to back.

Numbers of Nightmares around us was in the hundreds, nay, thousands.

"Crikey." Bunny voiced all of our thoughts.

Sorry it's so short. This is the first book of mine that's been less than twenty-five chapters, so I'm trying to stretch it out a bit.
