Lucy POV

Seeing Lyon yesterday threw me for a loop, but I have to admit... it was nice to see him again. It was a bit hard to explain to Jellal and Rogue, who could tell right away something had happened. I pretty much had to explain the entire academy system to them. And that, in itself, is a headache.

"So, because you were his first partner in training... Lyon wants to retire and transfer to FA?" Jellal reiterated once more. The two had been asking the same question in different ways for the past five minutes.

"Pretty much. I'm sure once he found out Gray was here, it was only fuel to the fire." I sighed, digging into the last of my ice cream. To make sure none of the other guys heard, the three of us opted for an ice cream outing. "Honestly, he was lucky even to get one meeting with me. Gramps made it absolutely clear, though, that it'll never happen again."

"Thank god. Could you imagine the damage control if any of them saw you with him or Zeref?" Rogue mumbled. "Though I think that love letter would be even worse."

Both he and Jellal burst into laughter as I shook my head. "Yeah, right," I snickered, "Alright, doofuses. We'd better head back so I can start on dinner."

"Man, you take dinner so seriously." Jellal's eyes widened as we gathered our things.

Rolling my eyes, I crossed my arms, "Yeah. After I left you guys in charge of dinner that one time, I practically went to bed starving."

"Hey, our ramen wasn't that ba..." We all turned to the door, only to stop dead in our tracks. There, blocking the door, was Laxus, stoic body and all.

"Heartfilia." He scowled, eyes only fixated on me. I exchanged glances with the other two before sighing.

"I'll meet you guys at home. Tell Gray to start without me." I smiled while walking to the blonde. The two could only nod in acknowledgement as the four of us exited the building. I watched as they slowly walked away, doing my best to ignore the daggers shooting through the back of my head. Turning to the uninvited guest, I began walking in the opposite direction. "Follow me. I'm sure you have some questions."

We walked to the park in complete silence. I had an inkling as to why Laxus was so hostile all week. After all, I didn't doubt he knew all about the academy because of his dad. Gramps only confirmed it yesterday, after school, that he had become severely suspicious. It was only a matter of time until he interrogated me. Still though...

The two of us found a picnic table to sit at for the discussion, far from the other people occupying the park. And so, my interview begins. "I didn't take you for such an upfront guy-"

"What are you doing at Fiore Academy, mercenary?" I scoffed. As insolent as ever, I see.

"So, we're really doing this, huh?" I sighed. "Figures they didn't erase your knowledge of the academy. I should've connected you to your dad sooner. Anyways, I retired and that's all you need to know."

"Yeah, right. Like they would just let a top-ranking mercenary go like that." My eyes widened. Does he know about my ranking? His deadpan face morphed into a smug one, "What's wrong? Surprised the legacy has an informant? Now, answer the question. Truthfully."
