Jack

That night, Jack couldn't sleep. All he could do was stare at the ceiling. Tomorrow he would be heading into the games, and possibly dying. He knew not being able to sleep wouldn't help that, but he couldn't stop thinking about every single scenario that he could wind up dead in. With each scenario, he was trying his best to figure out how to avoid it. But he knew there would be things that would be thrown into the game that he's never seen or heard of before. He finally decided to sit up and leave the room and just walk around.

As he went into the living room, he noticed Signe sitting at the couch. Not doing anything but sitting and staring.

"Y-You alright?" Jack asked.

Signe jumped, then sighed in relief as she saw Jack.

"What the hell are you doing up?" She whispered, "you need to rest for tomorrow."
"How can I?" Jack asked, "when I'm about to die in less than 12 hours?"
"It's still good to sleep and prepare for anything." Signe said.

Jack was silent for a moment before speaking again.

"What were you thinking about?" Jack asked.
"Nothing to concern you..." Signe responded.
"Was it about when you were in the games?" Jack asked.
"How the hell would you know that?" Signe asked.
"Well, it's no surprise that you're thinking about it when the games are happening tomorrow."

Signe sighed, almost growing emotional.

"You're a great person, Jack..." Signe began, "you and Mark both are. Neither of you deserve to die. Nobody ever does in this game."
"But it's possible that either me or Mark could win." Jack said.
"It doesn't really matter," Signe claimed, "if you won the games, you would've wished you were dead. I certainly wish I would've been."
"What happened?" Jack asked.
Signe sighed and choked, "Me and the other person from District 2, Michael, were the only two people left in the game. He was the love of my life and we fought together until the very end."

Jack knew exactly what the story was after that, but Signe continued to tell the story.

"After finding out we were the only ones left, Michael and I were instructed to go to the center of the arena," Signe continued, "Afterwards, we noticed 3 soldiers there and a helicopter. The one soldier told us that one of us had to kill the other. Obviously we both refused after what felt like an hour long argument. Then suddenly, the soldiers grew impatient, and just shot Michael right in front of me."

Jack's eyes widened.

"I didn't have time to react to Michael being killed," Signe choked, "they dragged me out of there so quickly. But that image has never left my sight since that day."
"I'm very sorry..." Jack said.
"Don't apologize." Signe said. "There's nothing you could've done to stop it."

Jack now couldn't stop thinking about if Mark and him were the only ones left, if the same thing happened to them.

"I'm sorry if I scared you even farther than you already are." Signe said.
"No, you didn't." Jack assured her. "I'm just glad I got your side of the story."

Signe then stood up from the couch and looked at him.

"You need to get some rest." Signe said.

She then went past Jack and into her room. Jack stood there for a moment before finally going I into his room.

Phil

Even though Dan was finally able to be in his room with him, and even though Dan's arm was wrapped around Phil's waist, Phil couldn't sleep. He knew tomorrow would be the day he could possibly lose Dan, or he could possibly lose his own life. He wasn't ready to see Dan die, he wasn't ready to see himself die in front of Dan, he wasn't ready to die himself.

He tried to think about all the training he had done, and how he would possibly be able to use it tomorrow if he survived the first death storm in the arena.

He tried to think positive. He tried to think about how hopefully him and Dan could possibly reunite with one another during the games and finish it off together.

He smirked a smile as all the positive thoughts and the thought of sleep finally took over his mind before he finally closed his eyes and rested.

No POV

The tributes the next day were taken through the back of the Capitol building and into a mysterious looking plane. Inside the plane, they were all seated and trackers were inserted into their arms. Moments later, the plane flew off into the arena. Where they were brought underground into a small room with a tube at the end that would bring them up into the arena.

All 6 districts watched as all of their tributes were about to fight. The other 6 districts also watched. Even though they didn't have anybody to worry about, they still were silent and watched in terror as they looked at the 12 competitors on the circles and ready to fight.

Inside the arena, a cornucopia was set up for the tributes. Inside, there were supplies and weapons where they would fight to the death to get to them.

Suddenly, they heard a deep thumping noise as they looked up above the cornucopia, as a countdown clock was beginning to count down from the sixty second mark.

Each tributes' hearts began to pound faster and faster as the clock ticked down.

Finally, the final ten seconds began to tick down.

10... 9... 8.... 7... 6... 5... 4... 3... 2... 1

Then, they all ran off...

Sorry I don't normally post two chapters in one day but I was so eager to start the actual games that I decided to make a second chapter and post it!
