*One Day Later*
Jack
Jack opened his eyes. As he saw the trees and wooded areas surround him, he became confused. He thought he was dead. He then looked at his arm, noticing a bandage wrapped around it. As he slowly sat up, he felt another bandage on his hip.
As Jack looked ahead of him, he could see somebody lying on the ground. It was Mark. At first, he nearly panicked because he thought he was dead, but he watched his chest slowly rise up and down, showing he was asleep.
He then looked to the left of him by the lake, noticing Phil sitting next to the lake.
Jack slowly stood up, walked over and sat next to Phil.
"Hey..." Jack said. "How are you holding up?"
"I guess I should ask that to you, seeing you've been stung by tracker jackers." Phil explained.
"Well, I barely feel anything. I just felt like I slept for a few days, that's it." Jack stated.
"Well, it's only been about 24 hours." Phil claimed.
"Really?" Jack asked. "It felt longer."
Jack and Phil sat there in silence for a few moments. The only sound was the sound of the stream from the lake. Finally, Jack brought something up to Phil.
"Has the deal been done yet?" Jack asked.
"I'm not even worried about that damn deal anymore." Phil explained. "I just want to kill Ryan and get it over with."
"Yeah, once we actually fight him and get him down, you can do the honors." Jack said.
"I don't even know if I want to do the honors." Phil said. "I'm not even considering it an honor."
"I don't know whether it's better of an honor dying in these games or actually surviving." Jack joked.
Phil shrugged, smirking a smile, then changed the subject. "Sorry for pointing my gun at your face earlier."
"Don't worry about it." Jack responded.
Phil then went over to Mark and woke him up. As Mark sat up, he noticed Jack standing right beside him. He immediately stood up and hugged him tightly.
"Thank god you're alright!" Mark said.
Jack smiled as Mark hugged him. He then noticed Phil with an upset look on his face as he was watching. Jack immediately let go of Mark.
Suddenly, they heard an announcement from a voice that seemed to be coming out of nowhere.
"Attention remaining tributes," the voice said. "Please meet up at the Cornucopia. After all four of you are there, we will let you know what you have to do. Please refrain from killing one another until you are instructed to do so. This is mandatory for all tributes."
The announcement then stopped. All three of them looked at one another.
"What do you think is going on?" Jack asked.
"Beats me." Mark responded.
"They said it was mandatory for us." Phil said. "And this will probably be an opportunity to finally kill Ryan. So we better go."
Mark and Jack watched as Phil grabbed his stuff and began heading over to the direction of the Cornucopia. Jack and Mark then grabbed their supplies and followed not too far behind.
Phil
It took about a half hour walk to get to the Cornucopia but when they got there, they noticed Ryan was already there.
Phil had a serious look on his face as he saw Ryan standing there, staring back at him.
"You wanna kill me now, don't ya?" Ryan asked Phil. "I killed lover boy, so you want revenge, don't ya?"
"Phil, don't fall for whatever he is doing." Mark mumbled to Phil.
"I'm trying my best." Phil responded angrily.
Suddenly, the entire group went silent as they heard something fall from the sky. They noticed several bombs falling directly right near them.
"RUN! RUN!" Jack shouted.
All four tributes ran out of the way of the bombs. The explosions ringing in their ears and burning the outside of their skin and sending them falling to the ground in a heap.
Jack
Jack opened his eyes, suddenly finding himself in a strange room. He looked up, noticing a ceiling instead of a sky, with only one light emanating from the center of the ceiling.
"What?" Jack asked himself in confusion.
He sat up in his bed, noticing the door ahead of him. He immediately sat up, stood up and headed over to the door. Before he could even get a chance to look through the door, somebody opened the door and quickly closed it behind him.
Relief filled his body to see Signe's face again.
"Signe!" Jack said.
He approached her and hugged her tightly.
"Is this a dream or something?" Jack asked.
"No... It's real." Signe explained. "And it's a nightmare."
"What?" Jack asked.
"The four of you have been taken back to the Capital after all those bombs went off." Signe explained.
"But what about the winner of the games?" Jack asked.
"There are no winners." Signe stated. "everyone besides the workers of the games thinks you're dead."
Jack's eyes widened. His entire family and his entire District thinks he is dead. They think Mark is dead. And so do the other districts.
"But... Why?" Jack asked.
"Because it's a secret..." Signe whispered. "The members of the games thought you guys were the perfect group for an experiment. That's why they brought you back here."
"What kind of experiment?" Jack asked.
"An experiment to test the mind to see how each tribute recovers after the games. If they do at all." Signe states. Jack still looked at her confused.
"Come with me." Signe said. "And I'll show you..."
