Auditions

When the bell rang, signaling schools end, I went up front of Mr. Finn's classroom as students shuffled out. I put a sign on the door that said:

Auditions for Summer's assistant

Mr. Finn and I set up chairs in a semi-circle facing the front of the classroom. I set a clipboard with the applications I typed out during band practice today in each chair. Slowly, student started to file in and fill out applications. The interview would be called based on people's papers. In the end, sixteen applications were turned in. But one person stood out almost all sixteen, that person was Ben. He was third. I was so excited to get to him. But I stayed calm.

"Hello everyone." I said, addressing the group of students sitting in chairs in front of me. Mr. Finn and I were their focus. Mostly me. "Thank you for coming today. I just want to say that you will be called based on the number in the corner of your application. You will have a short interview process where you will answer a few questions and show your work ethic by doing a few exercises. After the last one, Mr. Finn and I will dismiss you so that we can make a decision. We will let you know tomorrow morning in class. Please, if you are not picked please realize that it is not because we didn't like you, it's just because we felt you weren't best suited for the position. Please don't be angry with us. We were thankful for your application. Now, without further adieu, let's begin the interviews with Jemma Lloyd. The rest of you can wait in the hall. Thank you!"

The rest of the students got up and went into the hall. Jemma, who I had talked to maybe once stayed behind for her interview.

She did well, I just don't know if she's fit for the job. The next person on the list was Anthony Cloverman. He was a popular boy why played basketball and did sound for School of Rock.

He was nice and all, but clearly not fit for the job. He didn't have any time for it anyways. Finally, the one I've been waiting for. Ben's audition. I went out to the hall and called his name.

"Ben?" I asked. He instantly stood up and walked over to me.

"Hi Summer." He said.

"I'm so excited that you actually showed up!" I said, opening the door to Mr. Finn's room.

"You didn't think I would show up."

"No, it's just I thought maybe you were joking about applying."

"No one bit."

"Well c'mon. Let's go in and we'll start tour interview."

"Alright." He said, following me into the Mr. Finn's room.

"Hello Ben." Mr. Finn said.

"Hi Mr. Finn." Ben replied, taking a seat across from Mr. Finn and I's chairs.

"So." Mr. Finn started "Ben, what are you after school days usually like?" He asked.

"They're really not that busy. I mean I have soccer practice most nights, but it's not that long and I still have plenty of time before and a little but of time after. It's really not an obstacle." He said. I smiled.

"Next question." I said, "Do you consider yourself organized?"

"Yes. I mean everyone has their bad moments but for the most part my room is generally clean and organized. As well as my locker, soccer bag, and backpack."

"Ok, Are you good at interacting with people?" Mr. Finn asked. "Like, difficult people. Or like making deals with them or convincing them?"

"Yes, I once convinced my to un-ground me for two weeks out of the four weeks..."
