over the months, you became extremely close with the gang - dally and johnny - being your best friends. although you just couldn't help but fall for those dark eyes, heavily greased black hair, and quiet voice.

"hey, y/n. you wanna come with dally, johnnycakes, and i to the theater later on?" pony asked you as the three of them walked up to me.

you grinned as you stood up from your spot on the curb. "yeah sounds fun."

"alright, well i'm gonna head inside to do my homework." pony stated standing up. "see y'all later." and with that, he walked inside.

"c'mon doll, let's cause some trouble." dal smirked grabbing your hand and helping you up.

"bye johnny!" you waved to johnny as dally pulled you off to cause trouble around town.

~~~~
dal and you were leaned up against a wall waiting for the two other boys. you blew a smoke ring before relaxing the cigarette in between your lips.
"you dig him, don't ya?" dal asked out of the blue.
"what're you talking about?" you asked innocently.
"don't play stupid with me, shorty." dal warned.
"yeah, i dig him." you grumbled. "but so what?" neither one of you noticed pony and johnny standing a few feet away from you, with their jaws dropped.
"you like johnny?" pony's voice filled your ears. both you and dallas whipped around only to see the youngest curtis brother, and - of course - johnny cade.
"i- i- em- i mean... yes." you stuttered. dally looked at you apologetically but you just glared at him and turned on your heal. "let's just go, shall we?" you barked making johnny jump slightly at your outburst. dally wrapped an arm around his shoulders.
"it's okay, she wasn't yelling at you, johnny." he whispered. pony jogged quickly to be able to catch up with you.
"you really scared him back there."
"wait what?" you asked looking at him.
"you can get louder then two-bit, soda, and steve for goodness sakes. it really scares him when you do."
"like i care!" you scoffed quietly. you never do stuff like this, but you were just scared of rejection, and you were real mad because of dally. but that's the thing - when you're mad you tend to take it out on other people - and sometimes you just can't control it.
"y/n, stop." dal warned dangerously calm.
you sighed and nodded. you couldn't intimidate johnny anymore. you turned around with your head hung and tears beginning to build up in your eyes. you started walking away from them.
"y/n, wait!" you heard dal's voice call after you. but you just ignored him and kept walking. after a few minutes of walking, you heard a  light pattern of foot steps running up to you.
"y/n, wait!" you heard johnny's voice call. you turned around and the first thing you saw was the sun reflecting off the grease in his hair.
"what do you want johnny?" you snapped. he sighed but continued looking into your eyes.
"i wanted to talk." he mumbled. "do you really like me that way?" he asked looking at you with hopeful eyes.
"yeah. i mean why wouldn't i, johnny? you're great! and you're my best friend." you told him, while sitting down on the street curb. he slowly sat next to you, and then wrapped an arm around your shoulders while you put your head on his shoulder.
"i really dig you too, y/n." he whispered, as he pressed his lips against your own.
