Chapter 2
■■The next morning■■
The guards came in early and woke all of us up, Allan, Will, Luke, Richard, and I. They tied our hands together and brought us out in a line.
Allan tried to run, but a guard got him, of course. We all were perched up on a stool. Robin had read out our names and said that we were guilty.
"For the record, I kinda liked you, Allan," I whispered over to him as the guards put bags over our heads.
"Is that right?" He replied with a strange tone.
"Yup. Feel lucky because I don't like many people."
"I'd feel pretty special if we weren't going to die," Allan whispered back.
There was a beat of a drum as the guards put bags over our heads and wrapped the ropes around our necks. I could hear names being called from the crowd. A man interrupted the execution with talk about cloth and holy redemption. It was difficult to hear him over the drum and a bag being over my head. But the talk did not work.
The chairs suddenly fell from underneath my feet. I started to gasp for air as the rope tightened around my neck. All of a sudden, the rope was cut and I was pulled from the platform.
"Are you alright?" Allan asked, taking off the rope and bag.
"Yeah." I breathed deeply.
"Let's go." Allan grabbed my hand and we began to run.
We ran with Robin into the Sherwood Forest. For Robin has saved us. There we set up camp in a riven. Much started a fire and cooked rabbit for all of us.
"Did you mean what you said back there?" Allan asked, sitting next to me.
"Psst. No. That was the fear of dying talking."
"Right."
Just then we heard rough, harsh voices yell. A gang of men, above, had arrows point at us. They said that this was their forest just before attacking us. They tied us up, Robin, Much, Allan, and I. It was funny because Allan was the only one who was stripped of his clothes. Well, almost. His shirt was taken. They stripped all of us to our under clothes even me. The men were digging through all our things. Taking what they like.
Where's Will? I thought.
I looked over at Allan and started to softly laugh.
"Stop laughing!" He whined.
"I can't help it. They took your shirt..." I replied, forgetting about Will.
Much tried to convince the men that we were on the same team. That we were also against the sheriff. There's one guy that keeps looking at Much with evil eyes. That's just the guys face, but it was funny. When Much opens his mouth, the man just shoots him down.
I was tied to the same tree as Allan but was kept in sight. I could feel Allan's hand touch mine.
"Aye, get your hand away from mine!" I warned him, trying to pull my hand away, but it was useless.
"I can't help it. Your hands are soft."
"Shut up! Hey! Can I be let go now?" I asked the men. "You've already taken all I got."
The men didn't pay much attention to me. They were more focused on Robin and how he was noble and smelt of flowers.
"Are they gone?" I asked.
"Yeah," Allan answered.
Will had appeared behind a tree. Once the men left, Will snuck down and free us all.
