Chapter 28

■■

Setting up camp in the forest, I woke up early to make breakfast for my love. Guy rolled over and groaned as I cooked some food.

"Good morning, handsome," I sweetly spoke, dishing up some food.

"Evelyn, you didn't have to do this," Guy purred in my ear, kissing my neck.

"I'm showing my love for my love. Guy? What are we to do out here? I mean, we have to move. Isabella will be after us."

Guy ran his hand down my arm. "We will figure something out, I promise."

After breakfast, Guy gave me a kiss and went out to search for something. I didn't hear what he said, but I knew I probably didn't want to know.

When Guy didn't return by nightfall, I went out to find him. Seeing a man in cloak coming down a hill, I quickly hid as he passed. Going up that hill once he was gone. Robin and Guy were laying there in the dirt. I ran to Guy and shook him.

"Guy? Guy, please wake up!" I shouted, shaking him more.

Robin rubbed his head and groaned.

"Will you stop shaking me, I'm dizzy enough," Guy groaned, holding my arms.

"Oh, Guy!" I gladly squealed, hugging him tightly.  "What happened here?"

"My father gave us a visit. Turns out we have a brother and he wants us to save him," Robin replied.

I shook my head. "I thought Malcolm was dead."

"It's a long story, dear." Guy patted my shoulder.

Robin and Guy made up, they were not trying to kill each other, which was weird. They also explained everything that happened. Malcolm wasn't dead, Guy's mother gave birth to a baby boy named Archer, who was to be hanged in York. So we were to save him.

Taking us to the outlaw camp, Robin gave us the plan. Little John was really angry that Robin was working with Guy. Robin tried to explain that it was for the better, John was not having it.

"John, it is alright. Guy is one of the guys," I sweet-talked.

"Oh, yeah? Who can say we can trust you, now? You're on his team," John shot back.

I tilted my head and clicked my tongue as Allan and Guy looked away because they knew John hit a nerve. "I'm sorry that you feel like you can't trust anyone. Just one little thing you need to know... I'm on my own damn team. Sure I'm married to Guy, who made some mistakes and I will follow him until death runs its bloody sword through my heart. But one thing is for damn sure, that I will stand up and fight for what is right! Now you can either stand there and complain like a girl or you can stick it up and fight like the man I know you are!" I started to yell at the end, so I quickly wrapped it up, going over to Guy and sitting on the ground.

He looked down at me with a smile and placed his hand on my shoulder. By his look, I could tell he was proud of me.

Robin got his team to agree to go to York. No one liked it, but they had no choice. It was just Robin and Guy going. I tried to push myself to go with them, but Guy assured me that it was okay.

I stayed with Allan and the rest. We were walking on the road, I hung back with Allan.

"I see you and Guy are happy again," Allan poked at me.

I looked over at him. "Allan, are you jealous?"

Allan laughed that was fake as could be. "Jealous? Why would I be jealous?"

I shrugged. "You know, Guy is my husband and I would follow him to the end of the Earth and you're an outlaw that is love with me."

Allan huffed and puffed. "In love with... I am not."

Giggling, "it's alright, Allan. I'm already with one man which means I do not need another. Besides, I wouldn't want you to end up like Marian."

"Now, that's not funny," he gave a sly smile.

"I'm being serious, Allan. She overstepped every line possible. Even though that day haunts Guy, he doesn't regret it. Everything he does is for his family, me. And I intend to do the same in return."

Allan nodded. "Yeah, I understand," he said, hanging his head.

Feeling bad, I walked closer to Allan and grabbed his hand, causing him to look down at me, first shocked, but that turned into a smile. Though that quickly stopped when I heard John yelling about Guy being a bad person.

"John, I promise you that Guy is not a bad person," I shouted back.

John angrily pointed. "You do not speak to me! Pretending to care! You only care about yourself."

"Hey, now, that is going too far, John. Eve has lost more than any of us. We can trust her," Allan said, backing me up.

"You have no room to speak, traitor." John then left the group, leaving his walking stick/weapon behind.

Back at the camp, John was still not back. So Allan and I set out to go find him. Finding John wondering on the road, Allan had me stick back. John ordered Allan to go away and just in time. Isabella came riding with her some of her men and they got John.

"What do we do?" I whispered.

"I have a plan," Allan winked.

We followed the two guards and John. Allan got his attention and tried hand singling John to fall down. It was quite a sight. I had to cover my mouth from laughing too loudly. While John distracted the guards, Allan and I came up from behind and attacked.

"What are you doing? Risking your lives with no weapons?" John questioned with a distressed tone.

"That's what friends do, besides, you didn't give us choice," I grinned.

John said we had to go to York because Isabella was on her way there. We went back to the camp to get everyone else.

■■

We attacked Isabella on the road. She got away which meant we had to move faster. Good thing we should up because the three were ready to be hanged. There was a distraction of an explosion, giving us the perfect cover to get everyone free.

"And you wanted me to stay at the camp," I joked at Guy.

He smiled and pulled me close. "I'm glad you came. John!" Guy shouted, setting me aside to go help John fight. "Are you alright?" Guy asked John when the guard was down.

John nodded.

I laughed at him. "And you said my husband was a bad guy."

Everyone followed Robin, who was following Archer, who was a real jerk. He wanted to leave and not help Robin or Guy. But his looks did make up for that. Archer refused to go with us, so he stole Guy's horse and rode away. Guy was a little hurt that he stole his horse. I told him it was fine.

Back at camp, everyone finally accepted Guy, even John. I was happy that they could see that they could trust him.

With that, we made a bed in the corner, so we could rest.
