Chapter 22
■■
A month has passed from giving birth to Grace Eve of Gisborne. And the past month has been the best days of my life, except for my wedding, of course. Guy was right there, helping with everything he could. The Sheriff sent a few gifts for Grace and me to enjoy. At night when Grace cries, Guy is such a gentleman and will go get her for me. And Grace, well, she's grown a little bit bigger from when I had her. Things were going perfect for once in my life with Guy. The best part, The Sheriff let Guy take some time to stay home with me. Weirdly enough, Sheriff has been quite good with the whole thing. He was happy to see the Grace was healthy and beautiful. The sheriff even came to visit one day.
Even though things are going great, Guy does get sad sometimes. I'm assuming it's because he killed Marian in the Holy Land. In a way, I do feel bad for him, losing probably the only girl he really and truly loved. Which makes me feel sad, knowing that I can't make Guy truly happy. Even after we had Grace. I do my best to keep Guy happy and to keep his mind away from the memory of Marian, but that doesn't always work. Even though he said he loved me more, I still got the feeling of doubt in the pit of my stomach.
"Hey, Guy!" I called from Grace's room.
Guy came to the door in a flash. "Yes, my love?"
I was nursing Grace and didn't have a fresh blanket near me. "Could you fetch me a fresh blanket for Grace?" I questioned with a smile.
Guy nodded and disappeared only to reappear in a second with a pink blanket. He came over to me and tucked the blanket under Grace's hand, in case milk fell out of her mouth. The rest of the blanket wrapped over her, making sure she didn't get cold.
"Thank you, Guy."
Guy leaned in toward me, kissing me on the cheek. "You're welcome, anything for my two beautiful girls."
"Are you going to Nottingham?" I asked, concerned about his job.
"Darling, you know that's complicated," Guy explained with a sigh.
I held up my hand. "I know, Love, but you've been missing a lot of work and I'm worried about you. Yes, I know I bring this up a lot and I know the answer, but are you sure this is not about Marain?"
Guy sighed and dropped his head, kneeling down by me. "Honestly, it is. Darling, you have no idea how much I love you and our baby. But Marain... she was the woman I went after for years when you left. My feelings for her were strong and no matter how many times she turned me down, I still got up and went right back. But you're in my life, Eve, and that is why I had to get Marain out of the picture. She was ruining our happiness. Being the one to watch the life leave her body, knowing our history, that hurts, more than ever. I am getting over that, so I can be here for you and our child. Because you are the one and only woman in my life for now and forever, Eve."
His words always make me warm inside, turning my face red. "Awe, Guy, I love you so much!"
He leaned in and kissed me. "I love you more."
"What do you say, I put Grace down for a nap and we have some fun in the bedroom?" I whispered, kissing him again.
Guy chuckled. "I say, meet you there in 10 minutes."
I giggled as he left the room. Burping Grace and laying her down, I bounced to the bedroom where Guy was waiting for me.
Slowly taking off my dress, I smiled. "I know, I'm not that much to look at since I had the baby."
Guy scoffed. "Are you kidding? You look stunning. Maybe even better, you have a slight glow to you, now."
I giggled, clawing into bed. Guy let out a soft groan.
"Get yourself over here and let me show you how much I love you," he purred, pulling me in.
Guy did show much love, maybe too much. We both were exhausted afterward, so we just laid there. My head on his chest as my fingers dance around on him. His strong arms holding me tight as he ran his fingers through my hair.
Everything was lovely until an arrow flew through our window and landed inches above us. With a loud, familiar voice that yelled 'Gisborne".
"He has come," Guy breathed, getting dressed and running outside with his sword.
"Guy!" I called, trying to stop him.
He was too far gone. I found Betha and ordered her to watch and protect Grace. I then got dressed and loaded up on weapons. Running out, something large barrelled into me, causing the two of us to fall.
I was looking up right into Allan's eyes. "Allan?" I breathed.
"Eve," he sighed in a joyful tone, quickly jumping up and pulling me with him. "I hope I didn't hurt the baby."
I chuckled. "I had her a month ago."
He was shocked. "Have I been gone that long? And it's a girl?"
I nodded. "You've been gone for over a month and yes, her name is Grace. I'm sorry, but have you seen Guy?"
"Lovely name and I'm guessing that's them over there," he replied, pointing behind me.
There was a crowd following Guy and who looked like Robin. "Is that Robin?"
Allan dropped his head. "Uh, yeah. He is determined to kill Guy for killing Marain."
"Welcome back, now excuse me, I better go save my husband," I shouted, running after the crowd.
Allan, Much, and John followed, trying to stop Robin.
Everyone was at the edge of a cliff that dropped down into a rushing river. I was no need, Guy somehow got the upper hand and through Robin over the cliff. I was a little taken back. Strange feelings come about. Given that I just watched my husband kill my cousin. Much was stupid and tried going after Guy, he was taken to the Sheriff.
I shook that off and ran to Guy making sure he was alright. Guy wrapped me in his arms, kissing me deeply.
