Chapter 21

■■

I was glad to have Guy back and he was glad to be back too. Through, Guy has been kind of off. He hasn't said much about the trip. Even though, I know what happened, I just want Guy to be able to talk to me and open up a little. But Guy has been sleeping farther away from me each night. He's been talking to me a little less every day. And the baby is going to be here any day now. It's just a matter of time and I don't want Guy being a horrible father. I was scared Guy was missing Marian too much and now he doesn't want to be a father anymore. I couldn't let that happen to my baby.

"Guy?" I questioned, laying in the cold bed next to him. "What happened on your trip? You've come back different like you don't know if you want this baby." I turned my head towards Guy.

He looked at me with tears in his eyes. "Evelyn, I'm so sorry," he said with a shaking voice, leaning over and resting his head on my chest.

I ran my fingers through his hair and rested my chin on the top of his head. His words really shocked me. "It's okay, Love."

"It's not. I lied to you about everything. Where the Sheriff and I went and what happened," Guy replied with such a sorrow-filled tone that it started to make me cry. "We went to the Holy Land to kill the King. And I almost had the King, but Marain stepped in the way. I realized that she messed up the plan just like she messed with our marriage. So I killed her."

I was excited that Guy opened up and told me the truth, but I couldn't help but feel sad for him. "I'm sorry, Love, that you had to kill the women you loved."

Guy looked up at me with puffy red eyes. "You're right, I did love her. But I'm married and I wasn't going to let Marain ruin our family." Guy then put his hand on the baby. "I love this unborn and I love you more than I ever loved Marain."

His words started to make me cry. "Oh, Guy!" I cried. "I love you!" I grabbed his face a kissed him.

"There's something else that I need to tell, Evelyn," Guy said sadly, grabbing my hand and pulling it to his chest. "Marain... She offered herself to me if I killed the Sheriff and left you. She said her and I could run away together."

"And would you have done that?" I softly asked.

Guy shook his head. "I knew it was a lie, besides, I wouldn't have left you and our child alone and unprotected."

Smiling, I kissed Guy more. "Where has this Guy been all my life?" I joked.

Guy wrapped his arm around and rested my head on his chest. We both were glad to have settled our problems and confess our overpowering love for each other and the unborn baby.

During the middle of the night, I woke up in so much pain. It felt like my stomach was tightening.

"Guy!" I shouted, hitting his chest."Guy, wake up!"

Guy jolted awake. "What it is?"

"I think the baby is coming!" I yelled in pain.

Guy screamed for Betha as he grabbed all the blankets and threw to the floor, leaving only a thin sheet to cover me. Betha came rushing in the room with a bowl of warm water and rags.

"It's going to be alright, Lady Evelyn," she frantically said, trying to prepare everything.

I screamed in pain as I felt my uterus contracted. Guy grabbed my hand for support and I took that sucker and squeezed it.

"Guy!" I breathed as the contractions stopped for a little while.

"Yes, my love?" He answered.

"We didn't get the chance to talk about names," I puffed, preparing myself for another contraction.

Guy gave a soft chuckle."Seems like a great time to do it now, giving the baby is on its way."

"If it's a boy... can we name it... Tommy?" I questioned, squeezing his hand.

"That sounds lovely," he said, kissing my forehead. "And if its a girl?"

I gave a loud sigh. "Well, then you get to pick the name. I don't want you to feel left out, my handsome husband."

Guy me in the eyes as he tucked hair behind my ear. "I have never and will never feel left out by you, Eve."

It was a good few hours before the baby started to come out. Betha was right there, helping me through it, coaching me through. And Guy, well, he was being the best husband around: holding my hand, patting my forehead with a rag, giving me words of wisdom. The sun had just peeked its head over the horizon. That's when the baby actually popped out of me. Betha wrapped the little thing in a blanket and handed it to Guy and me.

"It's a girl," Betha grinned.

I rested my head on Guy, who was in the bed, holding me as I held the baby. Guy took his finger and pulled down the blanket to see her face.

"Oh, hey there," I said with a cracked from all the screaming I did.

"She looks just like you, Eve," Guy breathed with a large smile on his face.

"She's beautiful," I whispered. "What should we name her?" I questioned Guy.

Guy looked at the baby for a short while. "Grace." He spoke. "Grace Eve of Gisborne."

I looked up at Guy with a tear in my eye. "I love it!"

We stayed there in the bed, holding Grace Eve for a little while. Until Betha come in, taking the baby so I could rest. Guy gave me a kiss and told me he loved me before he left the room to help with Grace.
