Chapter 25

■■

Allan and I did grow close again. He helped me with Grace and he was a natural, she really seemed like him. I forgot how lovely it felt when Allan held me. My heart still yearned for Guy and I didn't want to believe that he was actually dead. I was doing my best to get over Guy and let Allan in, but I loved Guy and love I felt for him could never just go away.

So when Robin came back with the news that Guy was still alive, I was thrilled. Sure it hurt knowing I'd have to say goodbye to Allan, again, but I couldn't just leave Gisborne.

"I have to get back to the manor, Guy will come looking for me, right?" I questioned, excited.

"Eve, you can't go, not yet," Allan sighed, pulling me back to him.

I wiggled out of his grip. "Allan, you know I wish could stay, but if my husband is really alive... I...  Do you know how that feels? "

Allan looked away to hide the tears in his eyes. "Yeah, I -- ah, I think I do."

I sighed and cupped his face. "Hey, don't get me wrong, I love you with all my heart and Grace clearly loves you too. But he is my husband and I can't just turn my back on him and my daughter." Pulling him in, I kissed his lips. "I'm sure I'll see you again."

I came upon the manor just in time so see Guy trotting home. Tears came to my eyes, seeing him clean and ever so handsome.

"Guy!" I yelled, holding Grace tight and running toward him.

He jumped down off his horse and ran toward me. "Evelyn," he moaned, hugging me gently, so he didn't hurt Grace.

"I can't believe you're here, alive," I cried, getting a good look at him. "The sheriff told me you were dead! I had to leave home."

Guy eased my nerves by touching my shoulders. "Darling, I am alright. Prince John gave me a second chance. So I could come back to you and Grace," Guy explained with a soft tone, touching my face. "Wait, why did you have to leave?"

"We should go inside, the sun is too warm for Grace."

"Yes, of course," Guy nodded. "I'll take her, I missed my little girl."

I handed Guy our baby and was warmed by the smile that crossed his face along with a gleam of happiness that shined in his eyes. Going inside he laid Grace down for a nap as we sat down in the kitchen to talk.

"The Sheriff brought in a new tax collector and he didn't like us as much. Robin came and saved me. We had to stay in the forest for a few weeks until I heard that you were back. Guy, I was so happy to hear you were alive," I explained to Guy I reached for his hands, but he pulled away.

"You were with Robin?" He asked coldly, I could tell he felt betrayed.

I rolled my eyes and sat back. "Guy, you were gone. The new guy was hurting me and Robin is my family. We had to leave. What did you expect me to do, Guy?"

"I'm sorry, Eve. I know you did what you needed to do. Never again will I leave you or Grace." He came close, taking my hand in his. "I promise you that."

I got up and sat on Guy's lap. "You better not leave us again. Grace really missed her father and me, my husband."

Guy gripped my hips and pulled me closer, my arms wrapped around his neck. "My eyes are open to what is important in life. You and Grace are number one."

I giggled. "Good, now what do you say we go upstairs, so I can show you what you've been missing?"

"I say, yes, please," he purred, carrying me to the bedroom as I kissed his neck.

Guy slowly took off my dress as he kissed my body all over. I clawed as his back, pulling his body closer to mine until there was no space between us. Moans left our lips as I took control and got on top. His hands seemed to miss me due to the constant moving they did. Biting my lip, I leaned down and gave Guy butterfly kisses, starting as his chest, moving up to his lips.

We laid there in each other's arms, with huge grins on our faces.

"I'm definitely never leaving again," Guy breathed.

I giggled as he pulled me tighter. "I'm so glad you're back." I turned to look at him with soft eyes.

Guy played with my hair a bit. "I am too."
