Chapter 30

■■

Allan and I were walking through the forest, I believe on our way to the castle. I wasn't really sure and since he wasn't talking, I didn't want to talk. The two of us looked at each other when we heard horses neigh. Pulling Allan behind a tree, we watched.

"Is that?" I breathed.

"It can't be." Allan stood up to get a better look when two guards came from behind.

Punching one in the throat, Allan grabbed him, throwing him over his head. The way Allan fought was a little turn on.

"Allan," I breathed, "We have to get to Robin."

Allan nodded and was about to run, but I grabbed him. "What?"

"No, we need to be quiet. We don't want to be seen," I warned him.

Standing just outside the castle, I looked at Allan. "How should we get in?"

Allan pointed at the army of men fighting at the front gate. "I suppose we go through there."

When I saw Kate running with Archer, I ran after them, leaving Allan behind. Catching up with them, Archer was lifting Kate up at a gate. Kate grabbed a rope and pulled, trying to open the door. Archer helped, but they couldn't quite get it. So I jumped in a started to pull.

The gate lifted and the three lads fell out along with pabble looking stuff. Kate ran to Robin, trying to get a sign of life. Seeing Guy lay there, I jumped in a tried to find a pulse. Archer gave aid to Much.

"Gisborne, you can't leave me just yet!" I cried, breathing into his mouth. "Come on, Guy." Moving the hair from his face, Guy gasped for air. My heart settled down, knowing that I didn't lose him.

Guy pulled me in and hugged me tightly.

"I thought I'd lost you," I said, kissing him.

"I thought I'd lost you," Guy replied.

Helping Guy up, Kate told Robin how Isabella was playing with us which lead to Robin saying that Allan was innocent. Archer informed us that the gate of the castle was blocked, so he wanted us to follow him.

Kate went after Isabella, giving us the chance to take over the castle. But our luck wasn't over. Much called for Robin, so all of the team followed him to the gate of the castle. There was a bundle of cloth on the small bridge. Few of the men pulled it, causing a body to fall out.

Gasping at the sight, I turned to Guy and started to cry. Allan was in the cloth, dead. I couldn't believe it, I was just with him. Guy held me with such security. There was a silence that fell over the crowd.

Pulling me back inside, Guy order for the gates to be closed. Looking out, there was an army surrounding us.

Guy and Robin went out on their horses to hear the demands of the army leader. I stayed back and watched John and Much look at Allan. They laid him in a cart, groaning and yelling how the man out there did this. When Robin and Guy came back, Robin ordered that every abled man will fight, for we hold Nottingham for the King.

"Robin, you could have ended this by giving me up to the Sheriff, why didn't you?" Guy questioned with such force.

"This is bigger than you Gisborne. It always has been. We are fighting for the future of England," Robin replied.

I went over to Guy and was going to walk away with him, but Much stopped us, asking Robin for a funeral to honor the dead. Wrapping Allan up they placed him nicely on a burn pile. Giving kind words, they started the fire. I couldn't take it, so I ran away, into some shop.

"Evelyn?" Guy questioned.

"I'm fine," I breathed, sitting down on a chair.

"I can clearly see that," he joked.

I gave a small smile. "Allan was a friend. I was with him not that long ago and he's gone now. Guy, Allan was there every step of the way for me. He was there making sure I was fine because he loved me and honestly, I loved him. But I couldn't bring myself to fall so easily, so I went back to you and I'm happy I did. He asked me to leave with him when we got free." Tears fell down my cheeks.

"What did you say?"

I shrugged and spoke with a soft and broken tone. "I told him that I loved you too much, I always have. Leaving you would have killed me. You and I have been through so much that I wouldn't expect anyone else to understand. Besides, I promised to stay by your side until death. I intend to keep that promise."

Guy came over, letting my rest my on him and he stood next to me. "It's okay, Evelyn. I'm here for you and I'll always be here for you."

His torse was sheathed in my arms. I held on like I never wanted to let go. "Can you promise me something?" I asked with a sniffle.

Guy hesitated a bit. "Of course."

"Promise that you will never leave me. That you will always be here for me."

"My dear, that's a big promise," he informed me.

I looked up at him with tears in my eyes. "Guy I need you to promise me that, please."

He could my broken heart through my eyes. Playing with my hair, he gave a nod. "I promise to never leave you."
