"Greetings, fellow stranger."
My eyes shot up suddenly to see a young man standing in front of me. Dark brown hair and light green eyes, he maintained a serious look on his face throughout this entire five seconds of me mumbling in my head.
"Uh. Hello." I swallowed nervously.
I shook my head as if to remind myself that he can practically kick us out of here.
"I believe you're Miss Evans?" He smiled gently, a serious look rapidly taking over his face again.
"It's a pleasure to meet you..." I hesitated, "um..?"
"Name's Theo." He nodded, tightly shaking my hand.
Don't freak out. Don't. Freak. Out.
I swallowed heavily, finally responding. "Pleasure to meet you Theo. So, what is it that I have to do?"
"You are here to break the tomb spell that's hidden in the core of the path, am I correct?" He asked, reading off of a note pad.
"Yes.." I replied hesitantly. "To break free the spell that breaks my kingdom in half, and to set my mother free from that tomb."
"I will ask you a couple of questions. Be still." He said sternly. "I mean you no harm, or any harm to those you cherish. Answer me honestly, and do not lie. I will know if you are."
There was something about Theo's tone that sent a rush of terror down my body.
I nodded in agreement, calming myself down.
"Very good," said Theo. He looked down at the papers in front of him before looking up into my eyes again. "Now what can you tell me about your mother? Is she a good ruler?"
"Well, she's been gone for ten years, and judging by the fact that the kingdom has been slowly collapsing ever since, I would imply that she was the one holding us all together."
"Very well." He nodded, looking up to me again. "Now, show me your true form. Only the true daughter of our beloved Queen Julia can pass this test. Go on ahead, for I will not harm you."
I transformed, letting my wings arce high above my silver threaded hair. They were made of long, soft feathers like those of a polar bear. My wings flapped threateningly with the power to strike a dozen men into unconsciousness. Yet still shining bright, as if it were emitting a light of peace and comfort.
"Guardian angels represent loving, guiding forces who assist their beloved. Angels are known for their wisdom, healing, comforting, or otherwise helping human beings that are in need," Theo explained, persistent with every word he says. "I have faith that you answer with honesty. Let us begin, your highness."
"If you were the choice to kill, would you take an innocent person's life?"
I was shocked by the question. I knew there would be no lying with this man. He had some sort of abilities, if not something more serious.
I sighed. Just the memory of having to kill four people sent shivers down my spine.
"If it were for the people I love, I would consider taking my choices to a higher extremity." I answered, taking a deep breath.
