Skye ran through the airport and dodged past people as she tried to find a way out. Once she was outside in the pouring rain she stopped and looked around, desperate for any sign of Nathan. People pushed past her, not caring if they caused her any harm. Skye had no idea where Nathan was. She took her phone out of her pocket and saw that she had nineteen missed calls from her mother.

"Skye?" someone said from behind her as the rain stopped falling over her. She turned around to see Tom holding an umbrella over her head. "What are you doing here?" he asked her. Relief washed over her at the sight of a familiar face. "I have to find Nathan," she replied. Tom smiled, a look of pity in his eyes.

"I was just about to hop on a plane back to America. Nathan told me to stay over there and keep an eye on you," Tom explained. "Where is he?" she asked desperately. "Let's go to my flat and get dry."

"Tom?" Skye questioned. He ignored her and started walking away from the airport. Skye followed him, knowing she had nowhere else to go.

When they arrived at Tom's flat he made them both a cup of tea and sat down on the sofa. "So how have you been these past few days?" Tom asked. "Not too good. It's been really hard since Nathan left," Skye answered. Tom nodded understandingly.

"I'd never seen Nathan in love until he met you," he said. Skye smiled weakly. Every moment of every day she spent missing him.  "Where is he?" Skye asked Tom. "I mean, he's had a few girlfriends but nothing serious like you," Tom continued. "To-"

"But I'm glad he found you."

"Tom!" Skye snapped. Tom sighed, knowing he'd have to give her an explanation. "He didn't want me to tell you," Tom began. "Just tell me," Skye encouraged, adamant that she could take it. He paused for a moment as he thought about what Nathan would do if he found out Skye knew where he was.

"Skye, he's gone away for a while," Tom said, trying to be as vague as possible. "Where to?" Skye asked. There was a silence between the two of them before he replied with, "He's joined the army."

Skye looked at Tom in disbelief. "The army?" she questioned. "Yes. He didn't want to tell you because he didn't want to hurt you more than he already had," Tom explained. The first thought that popped into Skye's mind was danger. "Please tell me you're lying?"

"I'm sorry, Skye. He had to get away from everything. He said that you made him want to be a better person so he went to help people. He loved you so much," Tom told her, trying to comfort her. "Why are you talking in past tense?" Skye asked, annoyed that he was speaking like Nathan had died. "Sorry. Force of habit," Tom mumbled.

"When can he come home?" she asked yet another tricky question to answer. "I don't know, Skye," he replied. A tear fell down her cheek as she thought about the possibility of Nathan getting hurt or even dying. Tom wrapped his arms around her as an act of comfort and compassion. He rubbed her back lightly as she cried.

Tom knew that they'd be lucky to see Nathan at Christmas. He also knew that Skye wouldn't leave England now she knew the truth. But she wasn't safe here. Not after what had happened to Nathan's parents. The only option he had was for her to live with him. He'd have to get Max, Jay and Siva to fly over to England. It was all a little too much but if anything happened to Skye, Tom would be held responsible and Nathan would kill him.

"You weren't going to America, were you?" Skye asked and Tom shook his head. "I went to the airport every few hours to see if you were there," he glanced at his cup of tea that was sat on the coffee table, "Nathan's orders."

Tom left Skye alone in the living room while he retrieved something from his bedroom. Skye's eyes were swollen from crying, something that had become a constant over the past couple of days. The pain of being without Nathan was getting stronger by the day. She just wanted him to hold her in his arms and never let anyone hurt her. The thought of him in the army was tearing her apart.

"He told me to give you this," Tom said as he came back into the living room. He sat down beside Skye and handed her an envelope. Skye took it from him and looked at her name scribbled on the front before she flipped it over and carefully opened it. There was a piece of paper folded up inside. Skye took it out and unfolded it.

Skye,

I know you'll be wanting to kill me right now for leaving you. And I know that you'll have followed me, hence you reading this letter. Tom has also probably told you where I am (I'll kill him!) so I guess I'd better apologise. Skye, I am so sorry for any pain that you're feeling right now. If I could feel it instead of you, I would. I know that you won't go back to America now that you're here and know where I am so stay with Tom. I mean it, Skye, don't leave his sight. He'll take care of you while I'm away. I don't know when I'll be home but I'm hoping for Christmas.

Skye, you're mine and nothing can change that. We're not together right now but I promise we will be soon. But know that I'm doing this because it's my way of protecting the ones I love. I love you, Princess. You're my girl.

I'll come home soon. I promise.

All my love,

Nathan.
