Skye had been staying with Tom for over a week now and she was finding it hard to come to terms with Nathan's decision. She felt like she was constantly waiting for him to walk through the door and tell her he'd never leave again. But it never happened and she knew that better than anyone.
Tom had gone to the airport to meet Jay, Max and Siva, leaving Skye alone in his flat. She had barely moved from the window sill in Tom's bedroom for days. She even stayed there overnight while Tom slept in his own bed. He tried to get her to move but she wouldn't listen. She just stared out of the window, watching the entrance of the building in a hope that Nathan would turn up.
Skye's phone started ringing, making her jump. She glanced down at the windowsill, not bothering to look at caller ID. She knew it'd be Tom calling to check up on her. "I'm fine, Tom," she said as she answered the phone.
"Hmm, Tom? No one sober has ever called me that before, unless you're not sober. Are you drunk, Skye?" his voice spoke, the amusement evident in his tone. Skye's heart skipped several beats. "N-Nathan," she stuttered. "Hey, Princess," he replied. She immediately threw up her walls, reminding herself that she was still angry at Nathan.
"I thought you had left," she said, trying to keep her voice as steady as she could. "Not yet. My flight isn't until tomorrow night. I'm still in England. I just rang to hear your voice one last time," he told her, his words feeling like knives plunging into her chest.
"I miss you," Skye replied, her breath catching in her throat. "I miss you too, Skye. Where's Tom?" Nathan asked. "He's gone to meet Max, Siva and Jay at the airport," she told him, his voice making her feel a sizzling warmth inside. "You're on your own?! I'm going to kill him," Nathan spoke, his tone gravely.
"Please come home," Skye almost whispered as silent tears rolled down her cheeks. "You know I can't, Skye. I'll come home soon. I just don't know when. I have to go now," he told her, knowing he had to break off the call before Skye got too upset.
"No, please don't go!" Skye begged, desperate to keep him on the phone. "Goodbye, Princess. I love you." Then the line went dead. "Nathan!" Skye shouted desperately but he was gone. Her fingers were shaking as she opened Nathan's contact on her phone and called him back. It went straight to voicemail, meaning he'd turned his phone off.
Skye dropped her phone and jumped off the window sill. Nathan was still in the country. She had to find him. She ran out of Tom's bedroom as her heart was racing and her thoughts were jumbled. She didn't really know where she was going or how she was going to find Nathan. All she felt was a strong urge to find him and touch him.
Skye left Tom's flat and ran through the streets of London. People knocked into her as she pushed through the crowds and barged her way into the airport. Nathan would be here tomorrow night so all she needed to do was find out the flight time. She rushed around looking for someone who could help her but no one listened to her pleas.
"Please someone listen!" she yelled in frustration. People dodged out of the way, clearly thinking she was insane. Then finally an unfamiliar face smiled warmly at her. "Are you okay, Miss?" he asked, his tone seeming sincere. "I need to know what time the flight is for the army troops," she told him, desperate for some information.
"Oh, follow me. I know someone who'll know," he replied. Skye followed the man as he led her towards a desk. He said a few words to the woman sat behind it before turning to Skye.
"The flight is at 5.30pm tomorrow evening," the woman behind the desk informed Skye and smiled plastically. Skye thanked the woman before turning away from the desk. "Thanks," Skye said to the guy beside her. "No problem. So why do you want to know when the plane leaves?" he asked. Skye thought it was a bit odd that he wanted to know but pinned it down as polite conversation.
"My boyfriend is getting on it," Skye answered. The man frowned before saying, "Oh, I'm sorry. What's his name?"
Skye knew the question was out of place. And she started to become wary of him. "Nathan," Skye told the man. The guy cracked a smile that was edging on creepy and Skye felt a little uncomfortable. "Listen, I know where your boyfriend is. I can take you to him, if you want," he told Skye before he placed his hand on her shoulder and she started to panic.
"I'd better be getting back home actually," Skye said, trying to shake the stranger's hand off her shoulder. The guy tightened his grip on Skye as he turned her towards the exit. "You're hurting me," she told him as his fingertips dug into her skin. He tried to guide her out of the building but she dug her heels into the ground, putting up a fight. She wouldn't go easily. "Get off me," Skye snapped at the stranger. He continued to force her towards the exit.
"Let go! You're hurting me!" Skye yelled, gaining the attention of a few of the people around her. Her eyes flashed around the airport in a desperate attempt to get someone to help. "Get off!" she shouted again with tears in her eyes.
Relief washed over her as she saw Tom in the crowds. "Tom!" she screamed, "help me!"
Tom looked around to see where the distressed voice was coming from. His eyes landed on Skye and he saw the familiar guy. Leaving Max, Jay and Siva, he ran through the crowds toward Skye as she frantically tried to pry the stranger's hand from her shoulder. Tom's fist was thrown into the side of the man's face and he released Skye as he stumbled backwards due to the impact. Skye was pushed behind Tom as he glared at the man.
"Stay the hell away from her!" Tom barked, his voice almost venomous.
Tom didn't take his time in leaving the airport with Skye. They met with Max, Jay and Siva outside and the five of them rushed back to the flat.
"I told you not to leave!" Tom snapped at Skye as they entered the flat. The other three guys sat down in the living room as Skye and Tom went into his bedroom.
"Nathan rang," Skye almost whispered, slightly fearful of Tom's angry state. "What did he say?" he asked, his mood suddenly calming. "That he's leaving tomorrow. I went to the airport to find out when the flight is. I have to see him," she explained. Tom sighed and rubbed the back of his neck. He felt sorry for Skye. Her desire to see Nathan seemed. "Is that really a good idea?" he questioned.
Skye stayed quiet for a moment, trying to stay composed. "Please, Tom. I miss him," she practically whispered with tears in her eyes. Tom sighed heavily, knowing he couldn't stand to see a girl cry. "Okay. But I'm going with you."
