Moonlight Kiss

Chapter 19

“Nice music” I commented as I enter the house. Robert stopped signing and turned to face me. I could see him started to blush at my remark.

“Thanks. Where did you go? I didn’t see you leave” he questioned turning back to whatever he was doing before.

“Uh…” I stuttered looking around for some type of distraction.

“It’s okay, you don’t have to tell me” he assured. I could see that he clearly wanted to know where I was, but something inside me just couldn’t tell him. Maybe I should just tell him, he deserves to know the truth.

I approach him slowly giving him so space. “I…I was hunting…” I told him as I step closer to him.

His expression changed automatically after that. It went from confused to embarrassed and understandable. “I shouldn’t have ask in the first place, but you should have told me…maybe I shouldn’t have made dinner, we can certainly do something else if you want”

“No” I blurted out. “We’ll have dinner; please don’t change anything for me. I’m fine now…please” I pleaded making a puppy face. He let out a laugh, and nodded.

“Ok, dinner is ready now. Let’s eat then” I let out a sigh of relief as he grabbed my hand guiding me to the table that was already set.

Robert looked relaxed and happy as he light up the candles in front of me. A part of me felt excited to see him content, but I couldn’t help to be nervous at the whole experience. The whole atmosphere made me feel excited and guilty at the same time. As I look at Robert trying to make this dinner work, I started to recall what happened when Alexander kissed me. I felt desperate to find out if my feelings for him were just friendly and pure, but nothing else or if I actually was falling for him as well.

What have I got myself into now?

“Jane?” I blinked a couple of time before focusing my eyes back to him.

“Yeah?” He laughed at my expression. “You look lost, are you alright?”

“Yes, I’m fine” I give him a smile and with that he nodded before taking a sit in front of me.

For the first time in my life I didn’t know what to say. I just kept looking at the dish in front of me, it looked weird. I wasn’t exactly sure what it was to be honest. Robert smiled as soon as he caught me staring at my plate.

“It’s lasagna. I know that it must look weird to you, but it’s quite delicious” he assured me. I looked at him cutting down a piece and bringing it to his mouth. I did the exact same thing, and once it hit my tongue, the taste was very comforting.

The night went by so fast, we ate all the lasagna while talking about all the things he likes and dislikes. I told him more about my parents and the things that I used to do back home. Calypso was definitely a fun topic for us to talk about; he looked intrigued and wanted to know more about it. I left out a few things for his sake, but other than that he seems to be excited to visit Calypso although it might not be such a good idea.

Overall things went great throughout dinner. I got to know more about him, and when he asked about Alexander, I felt the inside of me torn part. For a moment I thought I was going to tell him the truth, but I kept my mouth shut and immediately changed the subject.

I know that I’m not being fair to him, but I just don’t want him to hate me. I looked out the window and for once in my life I felt completely normal. Having dinner with Robert made me feel wanted and…human.

But I can’t just leave this the way it is, I have to find out if my feelings for Alexander go beyond just a simple brotherly love and I know just exactly who can help me.

I got out of my room and quietly made my way out of the house. The night looked darker than before; the streets were silent and empty. Not a single person was out, it was as if they felt the same thing that I’m feeling right now. For some reason I couldn’t help but wonder if this town knows more than I do.

I turned to the right and stopped as soon as I arrive to Victoria’s house. As I approach her house, she opened the door like she was expecting me to come.

“Your majesty…I’m surprised to see you here this late” she said looking out at the sky. Her eyes held fear in them as soon as she saw how dark and silent the night got.

“I’m sure you know why I’m here” she nodded taking a step back for me to enter her house.
