Moonlight Kiss

Chapter 1

         Is duty more important than love? I sighed, that’s the same question that I ask myself all the time. I looked up at the stars and saw them bright as ever, illuminating the sky with their brilliant light. The kingdom was silent; there was no noise around other then the wind and the sound that it made every time it came in contact with the trees.

I leaned on the balcony, looking over at the Kingdom that my ancestors have created, and the wars that made it strong.

Not that long ago my mother told me how important I was for the magical creatures, they worship me like a god because they know that I’m their only salvation.

You might be wondering how I’m their salvation, and the truth is that I don’t really know the entire story; all I know is that I was marked by a prophecy; a prophecy that has kept me from going to sleep at night and the one that has been haunting my thoughts for the past few months. 

And to only think that I’m still 17yrs old and ready to fight with an army, all to protect my home. As much as I love my parents and everyone that lives here in Calypso, I’m not sure if I’m ready to take this huge responsibility.

I want to live freely and do whatever I want to do, but there are things keeping here, for one thing, my parents wouldn’t allow me to go to the human world even if I beg on my knees, they think it would be risky to have a princess roaming around with the humans.

Even though Alexander is a human, he and his family are allow to cross the portal because they are very good friends with my parents.

You see, Alexander is not a typical human; he was raised with me in Calypso after he was born, but then his parents thought it was good idea to move to where they belong. I still see him and his parents, but it’s not the same, I missed hanging out with him and playing in the forest, but its restricted due to the recent attacks.

The dark forest has woken up and is ready to kill along with the creatures that live in it.

I just hope my life gets better, a princess like me shouldn’t be outside the magical kingdom, but I sometimes wonder what it would be like to live like a normal human, go to school and hang out with friends. My mother has taught me how to act like a typical human, knowing that she knows everything about it since she was human before marrying my father.

I smiled at the thought of seeing them together. They were madly in love with each other; you could just see it in their eyes.

I really hope to find my other half, a soul mate to share my life with, a person that is going to love me because of me and not because of what I am.

I reluctantly went back into my room and got out my diary and started writing about my day when I heard the door of my room open.

“Jane” my mother called. I turned around and saw her leaning against the door with a smile on her face.

“Yes mother?” I immediately put away my notebook under my pillow and looked up.

“What are you hiding from your mother?” she asked entering the room.
