Moonlight Kiss

Chapter 9

“I…I’m a…vampire” I whispered looking at his eyes. Terror and disgust flashed through his eyes. I took a step back holding my breath.

Lots of emotions and memories went through my mind at that moment. Then I saw his face and that’s when what I felt for him shattered my heart.

He let out a sigh and shook his head. “No…you can’t be. Vampires aren’t real” he stated taking a step back.

His gaze went towards the dead deer and to me, maybe trying to piece everything together. I remain calm, just looking at him.

I realized then that I had made a huge mistake. Maybe me telling Robert about what I am was not supposed to happen.

I bet he is now going to hate me forever or think that I’m crazy.

“No I don’t believe what you’re saying…it can’t be true” he said looking away from me.

I wanted to walk up to him, but I couldn’t. It was as if there was a wall between us, not wanting us to be together.

“Robert…I” I said softly before he interrupted.

“No Jane. Tell me the truth and nothing but the truth” he said with such a determination that almost made me want to run away and not look back.

“I’m telling you the truth. I’m a vampire” he shook his head and walked up to me.

He stood in front of me, pain and anger appeared on his eyes. “You’re crazy. I don’t believe you. If you are what you say you are, prove it”

I frowned. “You want me to prove to you that I’m a vampire?” I asked.

He laughed. “I knew you were joking. I mean c’mon a vampire? Don you think I’m stupid or what?” he shook his head again and started walking back.

I can’t believe he think I’m crazy. He should be happy that I told him the truth.

I felt my hands turn into fists, anger ran through me all of the sudden.

“Fine” I said all while glaring at him. He turned around with an amuse look on his face.

Crossing his arms over chest he nodded for me to proceed. “Please, I’m dying to see” he said sarcastically.

I glared at him, an angry blush rising in my cheeks.

“Come closer then, you don’t want to miss what I’m about to show you” I said softly just like I would to attract my pray.

I felt my eyes sting a little while the change in their color came slowly. Robert took a few steps forward. His eyes never leaving mine as he walked up to me, he flinched as soon as he saw my eyes.

Red…bloody red

I secretly smiled as I saw his reaction. Now who’s talking?

I smiled widely and he gasped as soon as he saw my fangs. “You” he said pointing at me.

“Yes?” I asked.

“You…have…fangs” he said walking up to me. As soon as he was in front of me, I immediately retracted my fangs and changed the color of my eyes.

It was just us now, under the moonlight where I told Robert the truth. The truth that still hunts me till this day, it wasn’t that I hated what I was thanks to my parents, but it was the things that I had to do in order to survive.

Being a princess wasn’t easy, there was usually no way out. I felt trapped in my own world. I didn’t know if there was a way out.

Back in Calypso, I used to just be who what others wanted me to be. But it was difficult to maintain all of that when I felt that I didn’t belong.

A part of me just wanted to accept what I was, but I couldn’t.

That’s also one of the reasons why I seek this world and yearned to be here. Now as I look at Robert, I could see the real me in his eyes. I could see a monster.

A monster that despite of what I am still wants to have a free and happy life.

“Just go Robert. You don’t belong here” he whispered looking down, not wanting to see his reaction.

“And I’m guessing you do?” he said lifting my chin up with his hand to face him.

“I belong in the darkness…away from your kind” he drops his hand and nodded.

“Why this town though…you came to my world. Tell me Jane, why are you here?” he asked completely calm.

I expected him to be angry and disgusted with me, but all I saw on his face was calmness and gentleness.

“I came to your world because I wanted to feel what it’s like to be human”

“You want to be human?” his eyes wide with shock.

I gulped and nodded. “Yes”

“So…do you kill humans?” he asked. I froze.

All those humans that I had killed…their blood, it was just something that I couldn’t forget.

“Yes, I have killed humans, but not anymore. I will learn to feed from animals” I said. He looked at him for a long time, just starring at my face.

I held his gaze and we were both silent.

“Look Robert. I will get out of your house and I’ll head back to my home. Just please don’t tell anyone about me” I pleaded. He stared at me shock.

“You’re leaving?” he whispered looking hurt.

“I…yeah. I don’t think you’ll want me in your house after what I just told you” I stated. He looked down and then at me looking like a lost poppy. I desperately wanted to hold him, but I control myself.

“I was actually hoping you could…stay. I mean, you don’t scare me and maybe you can tell me more about your world” he said looking at me.

I fought the urge to giggle. He had the cutest face ever; he could actually win over anyone very easily.

“So…do you want to stay?”
