Paper Airplane [s.m]

"Are you even paying attention?" Jade asks me. I look over to her and shake my head slowly with a bored expression. I hate calc so much, I never do anything in this class. There's a whole page of notes everyone copied down and I don't even have paper out.

"Well he's calling on people so be ready." She shrugs.

"Erin. What's the answer to number 4?" He asks. The girl looks up and fixes her glasses. I think she was sleeping.

"26?" She guesses.

"No. 168.5" he says. She smiles sheepishly and pulls out a notebook. I look down at my wrists and start to doodle paper airplanes and clouds. I learned how to draw them when I was in 8th grade and I've been obsessed ever since then.

"Veronica! Number 5." He calls me and I stare at him with wide eyes. I didn't think he'd call on me. I glance over at Jade and see her holding up 2 fingers and pointing down with them other hand.

"Negative 2?" I question. I think that's what she meant.

"Very good." He says and moves on to his next victim. I sigh in relief and smile at Jade. She winks and writes down the next equation.

After 30 more minutes of not paying attention, we leave the class and head to lunch. Jade told me she needed to meet up with Alex before lunch so I just went without her. I sit at our usual table, next to Thalia.

"Oh my god guess what Roni?" Thalia exclaims with a huge smile.

"What?" I ask with a bored smile. I'm just having a weird day. Everything is either irritating or makes me want to fall asleep right then and there.

"That guy in my literature class asked me out." She says and bites her tongue to keep herself from smiling.

Reggie drops his bag of Doritos and they spill all over the cafeteria floor. We both look over at him but his expression is unreadable. I know what he's feeling though.

"Anyways..." Thalia says rolling her eyes. "I guess he just needed something to do this Friday or maybe he was thinking of asking me out for a while? I don't know I'm just happy he did." She rants. Reggie stands up and leaves the lunch room without a word.

"That's awesome." I tell her.

Alex and Jade show up holding each others hands. Alex kisses Jade's cheek before leaving the lunch room. Jade sits down on the other side of Thalia. It's a circular table, so we can all see each other.

"Where is Alex going?" Thalia asks.

"She has to study for an exam next period." Jade says and pulls out a water bottle.

"Oh also, why is Reggie in such a pissy mood?" She adds.

"I don't know he just got really weird all of a sudden." Thalia shrugs.

"Yeah I don't know but Thalia has a date this Friday." I raise my eyebrows at Jade so that she'll get what I'm trying to say. She quickly nods in realization. It seems that everyone knows except for Thalia.

Later that night I'm sitting in the hotel locker rooms playing cards with Alex. We're playing go fish, because we are mentally 12.

"Go fish." I say.

"No! I saw that 2!" She says and takes my deck of cards.

"You son of biscuit." She says and throws my card at me. I look down at it and see the number 2. I start to laugh while she just scowls at me.

"Room service to room 117." A voice says through the intercom.

"That's Shawn's room. Go." She tells me. I stand up and walk to the kitchen quickly to collect my cart of food to deliver.
