Ten

"Yeah we still have to wait for my friends to get here." I tell Dylan. He's laying on my bed with his head in my lap.

"Who's coming?" He asks.

"Alex, Thalia, Jade, Reggie and Shawn." I tell him. He nods.

I get a text and I reach to answer it. Dylan gets to it more quickly than I do and he reads it. I'm a little irritated but who cares.

"Who's Shawn?" He asks.

"I just told you. He's my friend, he's coming tonight too." I roll my eyes as I answer.

"Does he know he's just your friend?" Dylan asks and shoves my phone in my face.

Shawn- I'll be there soon :)

"Your being ridiculous. It's literally just a smiley face." I say.

"Well it's inappropriate. You have a boyfriend." He says and stands up.

"Oh stop. He's not flirting or anything. We're friends." I say. He rolls his eyes and leaves the room. I text Shawn back while Dylan is throwing his tantrum.

Just as I send the text there's a knock on the apartment door. I leave my room to answer it but Dylan has already opened the door.

"Are you Shawn?" He asks sternly.

"No I'm Reggie and I'm guessing your Dylan." Reggie says raising an eyebrow. Dylan sighs and let's Reggie and Thalia into the apartment.

"We'll head up to the roof when everybody else gets here." I tell them. Just as I say that, there's another knock on the door.

I open it this time and let Alex and Jade into the apartment. Dylan takes one look at their intertwined hands and scowls. I almost lunge at him right there.

"He's a real keeper." Reggie rolls his eyes and whispers to me. I frown because I know he's right. Dylan really is an rude person but I've been dating him for a year now and he's never been anything but loyal to me.

Shawn finally arrives and I open the door with a smile on my face. The first thing he does is hugs me tightly. I wrap my arms around him but I'm soon pulled bag harshly by my arm. I wince and look back at Dylan holding my arm tightly. I try to get out of his grip but he doesn't let go.

"You're Shawn?" He asks.

"Yeah- is she okay?" He asks looking towards Dylan's hand turning my arm white from the pressure. Dylan releases me and and I rub my arm.

"She's fine. How about you back off alright?" He states.

"Um okay?" Shawn says confused.

"Shawn, this is my boyfriend, Dylan." I say glaring at Dylan. He smirks proudly. What a jerk.

"Oh." Shawn says surprised. I'd be surprised too if I flirted with someone for almost a month just to find out they have a girlfriend,
Or boyfriend in Shawn's case.

"Let's just go to the roof." I say. Dylan try's to hold my hand and I send him a stern glare. He knows I'm mad at him yet he acts like nothing happened.

We get up to the roof and Thalia sits the cake on the picnic table we brought up here last week. Jade puts her beats stereo thingy down and starts to play music on shuffle. We made a playlist together so that it'd be my favorite songs.

"Hey so I was wondering If you could help me with Thalia." Reggie asks leaning close to me so I can hear his whispering.

"Yeah of course, are you gonna ask her out on a date?" I ask him.

"Oh god no. Not after what she just went through. I just want to tell her how I feel." He says.

"Oh yeah that's a smart idea." I tell him.

"How about I do it next week?" It'll be Halloween and that would be cute right?" He asks me.

"Yeah that would be so cute. Good luck with that. I'm gonna go talk to Shawn." I tell him. He nods and walks towards the girls that are talking in a circle near the ledge.

"Hey Shawn." I say and nudge his arm with my elbow. Dylan glares at me but I ignore him. He can't control who I talk to.

"Hey Roni." He smiles.

"How was your interview yesterday?" I ask him.

"It was great actually. She wasn't awkward at all and she asked me some important questions so it went well." He explains.

"That's awesome." I nod.

"Yeah I know, and I have a concert on October 30th. So next week." He tells me with a smile. You can tell he really loves what he does. He's so passionate about music.

"That's so cool." I say with a smile.

"Roni! Let's blow out candles!" Thalia exclaims and walks over to the picnic table. Everyone gathers around the picnic table and waits for Thalia to light the candles.

"Happy bir-" they start to sing but the wind blows out the candles. I try not to laugh as Thalia re-lights them.

"Happy birthday to-" they sing again right as the candles blow out another time.

"No!" Thalia exclaims. She lights the candles again and stands in front of the cake so the wind won't blow the tiny flames out. They get to sing the whole song and I blow the candles without wishing for anything.

"Yay. Now let's go inside its freezing." Alex says and hugs Jade for warmth.

"I agree." I rub my arms. They have goosebumps even though I'm wearing a jacket. We all step into the elevator and I press my floor number. Thalia holds the cake securely as we descend in an awkward silence.
